You can glue the strip to the edge of the card. for needlework, because she gives us so many wonderful materials: leaves, vegetables, fruits, flowers, acorns, pine cones and twigs. And how cozy a house becomes if you decorate it with yellow and purple tones. In this material you will find 6 ideas for DIY autumn crafts for adults and children with step-by-step master classes and a selection of photos for inspiration.

Idea 1. Autumn topiary

Topiary is decorative tree which can be used to decorate dinner table, mantel or space front door. To make it, you can use natural or artificial materials, for example: leaves, berries on twigs, acorns, cones, chestnuts, flowers, dried citrus slices, as well as felt, sisal, linen and everything that your imagination tells you. In the next slider you can see several examples of such autumn crafts.

Materials:

  1. Clay pot;
  2. Wooden stick or branch;
  3. Two polystyrene or floral foam balls;
  4. Materials for decorating the crown;
  5. Dry moss (you can replace it with sisal);
  6. Glue gun and several glue sticks;
  7. Scissors;
  8. Side cutters or pruning shears;
  9. Acrylic paints for painting the trunk, ball and pot (optional).

Instructions:

Step 1. Cut a hole in the base ball with a sharp tool for the barrel, about a third of its diameter deep. Place a drop of hot glue into the hole and insert the barrel into it.

Step 2: Insert the second ball into the pot. If the ball does not sit tightly enough in the pot, place newspaper around it. Cut a hole in the ball for the trunk, 2-3 cm deep. Insert the trunk with the crown into the hole and adjust its length. Next, drop glue into the hole of the ball, place the barrel in it and begin to fill the hole with glue, placing small pieces of paper around the barrel. This is necessary so that the hot glue does not deepen the hole too much.

Step 3. Paint the pot the desired color if desired. original appearance You do not like. IN this project the pot was painted with spray paint in a dark bronze shade from Rustoleum (sold in construction stores, for example, in Leroy Merlin).

Remember that the design of the pot should be simple and unpretentious so as not to distract attention from the crown. If necessary, paint the barrel and/or balls at this stage. It is advisable to paint the balls so that the gaps between the decorative details are invisible.

Step 4. While the paint on our blank is drying, sort the decorative parts by type and size. If you are using artificial leaves, flowers and berries with a wire base, then when cutting them off, leave “stems” about 2 cm long. This is necessary in order not only to glue the parts, but also to stick them into the ball - then they will hold more securely. If the “stems” do not have wire, then it is better to cut the parts “at the root”.

Step 5. Now it's time for the fun part - creating the crown. First, evenly distribute and glue the largest parts onto the ball, then the middle ones. Finally, fill in the gaps with small embellishments.

Step 6. Well, that's all, all that remains is to decorate the ball in the pot with dry moss or sisal, after treating it with glue.

Idea 2. Pumpkins made from toilet paper rolls

And here is another idea for an autumn craft on the theme of vegetables that you can make with your children - pumpkins from bushings from toilet paper. The possibilities for decorating these crafts are endless. For example, children can use colored paper, gouache or glitter, and adults - gold leaf, fabric or lace.

Materials:

  • Toilet paper or paper towel rolls;
  • Scissors;
  • Leg-split;
  • For decoration: brushes, gouache or acrylic paints, PVA glue and glitter or book pages, etc.;
  • Cinnamon sticks or sprigs (to create the core of the vegetable);
  • Burlap, felt or cardboard (for creating leaves).

Step 1. Flatten the toilet paper roll and cut into rings.

Step 2: Decorate the rings with the material you like, such as kraft paper, scrapbooking paper, fabric, ribbon or just paint them acrylic paint. You can also decorate pumpkins exactly as in this master class - with glitter and stripes of book pages.

Method 1. Using a brush, coat the outer sides of all rings with PVA glue, and then sprinkle plenty of glitter on them. Wait until the pieces dry, and then cover the glitter with a second layer of PVA glue to protect it from falling off.

Method 2. Cut thin strips of paper from book pages and glue them to the rings using PVA glue or a glue stick.

Step 3: To shape your pumpkin, pass a strand of twine through the rings, then tighten the two ends and tie a knot as shown in the photo.

Step 4. Now glue cinnamon sticks or cut branches into the center of the pumpkin.

Step 5. Hurray, your pumpkins are almost ready, all you have to do is add leaves cut from burlap, felt, cardboard or any other material you have on hand.

Using the same principle, you can make a pumpkin from rings of any material.

Idea 3. Panel of leaves

Next, we present to you an idea for crafts made from autumn leaves. Since this master class does not use hot glue or sharp objects, you can safely involve children in the work, and especially in collecting material.

An idea for an autumn craft made from natural materials that you can make with your children and use for seasonal home decoration

Materials:

Instructions:

Step 1. Cut out the wood with a jigsaw and sand the ends with sandpaper.

Step 2. Paint the board with stain and leave to dry.

Step 3. Use a marker to draw on the board. Maple Leaf by hand, using a template or stencil.

Step 4. Start gluing the pre-dried leaves (see how to dry them at the end of the article) like a fan, trying to place them so that their edges coincide with the outline of the picture. At the same time, you should not glue the leaves completely; let their tops be a little loose so that the panel gains some volume. Place a press of suitable size on each glued leaf for a minute.

Keep in mind that the leaves will not stick immediately, but after the glue dries they will stick well.

Step 5. To make the outlines of the design clearer, trim the leaves in some places. However, try to resort to such correction as little as possible so as not to lose the beauty of natural lines.

Step 6. Now attach the twig to your panel in place of the stem, break off the excess and glue it.

The following selection of photos presents examples of no less original autumn panels.

And finally, we suggest watching a video tutorial on how to make an autumn craft with your own hands in the form of a panel of leaves with a frame of acorns.

Idea 4. Wind chimes made from natural materials and more

The following project is an example of an interesting, but very easy to make craft from natural materials and finished parts, which the child can do almost independently.

Materials:

  • Two or one sticks;
  • Natural and manufactured materials for decorating threads: Pine cones, flat pebbles, acorns, wooden beads, small metal candle stands (used in this project) and anything else that comes to hand and matches the fall theme;
  • Leg-split;
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks.

Step 1. Paint some elements of the future wind chime, if necessary. In this master class, the author painted the pebbles in bright yellow and red colors.

Step 2. While the decorations are drying, tie two sticks crosswise and tie the center of the cross with twine as shown in the photo below. You can also just use one long stick or, say, a hoop.

Step 3. Cut 9 ropes of twine to the desired length with a small margin for knots, so that in the future you will have two rows on each branch and one in the middle.

Step 4: To create one row of wind chimes, take a piece of twine and begin stringing beads or other pieces onto it, passing the strings through the holes twice at a time or tying them well into knots. The stones should be additionally fixed with hot glue. In order not to make a mistake with the order, the parts should first be arranged in the desired order. By the way, it is better to place especially sonorous elements opposite each other so that their chime in the wind can be better heard.

Step 5. Tie knots at the end of each rope.

Step 6. Once each thread is finished, tie them to the branches on double knots with adding a drop of glue.

Below are other examples of this unusual decoration made from cones, acorns and leaves.

Idea 5. Candlesticks in the shape of autumn leaves made from salt dough

Leaves can be used not only as decorative or finishing material, but also at the same time as a template and stamp for creating crafts from any modeling mass. Take note of the idea of autumn crafts with children in the form of these cute salt dough leaves. By the way, they are not only beautiful in themselves, but can also perform a practical function, for example, you can store various decorations or light candles.

Materials:

  • Ingredients for kneading salt dough: ½ cup salt, ½ cup water, 1 cup flour;
  • Container for kneading dough;
  • Glass bowl;
  • Rolling pin;
  • Large leaves;
  • Vegetable oil;
  • Acrylic paints in yellow, red, orange and brown.

Instructions:

Step 1. The first thing to do is go for a walk with the whole family and find at least two beautiful large leaves.

Step 2: Then Knead salty dough. To do this, simply mix all the ingredients and roll out the dough to about 6mm thick (no less), so that it is not too thick, but not too brittle.

Step 3: Place your leaves on the dough and run a rolling pin over it with light pressure.

Step 4. Next step is to cut out a shape around a sheet. Use a sharp knife and, of course, take this part of the work yourself.

Step 5. Remove the leaves. Invert the glass bowl and coat it with a thin layer of vegetable oil.

Step 6: Carefully lift the sheets and place them on the bowls.

Step 7. Place the bowls with the dough in the oven preheated to 250 degrees and leave them to bake for 2-3 hours.

Step 8: Remove your pieces from the oven and let them cool in the bowls for about 15 minutes. Then carefully lift the leaves and leave to cool completely.

Blanks

Step 9. Once the bowls have cooled, start painting. To do this, pour paints of each color into cups and let the children mix them themselves and paint the inside of the leaves first, and then the outside. Crafts made from salt dough are quite fragile, so you need to paint them carefully, without pressing. Wait for the paint to dry and, if desired, cover the bowls with a layer of PVA glue. It will give the craft a matte finish and make it a little stronger.

Painting the bowl

Leaf shapes may vary.

By the way, if you don't want to mess with salt dough, then you can replace it with soft plasticine. The photo below shows an example of such a craft.

Idea 6. Felt garland

Although felt is not a natural material, crafts made from it are the most autumnal. Today we invite you to make a simple garland from felt leaves.

Materials:

  • Several sheets of felt in fall colors;
  • Leg-split;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue;
  • Thick threads with a needle;
  • Pencil.

Instructions:

Step 1: Download and print the leaf templates (see downloadable template below), then cut them out and outline them.

Step 2. Cut out the blanks.

Step 3. Sew the veins by hand using large stitches.

Step 4. Now, maintaining equal intervals, hang the leaves on the twine. To do this, wrap the tail of each leaf around the twine and secure with glue. If you wish, you can sew on the details. Woo-ala, autumn garland felt is ready!

According to the principles of this simple master class you can create a variety of garlands with decorations in the form of acorns, pine cones, pumpkins, etc. The following selection of photos shows some examples of autumn felt garlands.

How to dry leaves and flowers

Method 1. This method is suitable if you want appliques or other non-voluminous crafts. Place leaves or flowers between the pages of the book at a distance of about 3 mm from each other and move them to other pages every day (also maintaining an interval of 3 mm). Within a week, the paper will absorb all the moisture from the plants, and you will be able to use them for creativity.

Method 2. If your craft does not involve the use of flat leaves, then you can dry them by simply collecting them in a bunch and hanging them upside down in a dry but ventilated area. However, keep in mind that from sun rays the leaves will lose color completely, but will remain in the shade.

Method 3. This method is suitable for drying and preserving the color of leaves and cornflowers. Blot fresh, just picked leaves/cornflowers with a napkin if they are wet. Place each sheet between two layers of wax paper and place on top of the resulting “sandwich.” paper towel. Preheat your iron and make sure the steam setting is off. Using pressure, iron the paper towel for 2-5 minutes. Turn the sandwich over and pat it again through the paper towel, then carefully remove the wax paper.

  • To prevent dried leaves and flowers from breaking, they must be dipped in a solution of water and PVA glue, diluted in a ratio of 4:1, and then left to dry.

We pierce the chestnuts one by one with wire, the length corresponding to the intended length of the caterpillar.

We lay our stylized caterpillar on the leaves, giving its body some bend characteristic of movement.

We decorate the caterpillar with multi-colored plasticine rings, placing them between the chestnuts.

On the first largest chestnut we depict the eyes, nose and mouth of the caterpillar using plasticine.

We stick bright horns on top, also made of toothpicks and plasticine.

Hedgehog made of plasticine and sticks

On the surface for the craft we lay out a randomly original autumn still life of leaves, thuja twigs, viburnum berries or rowan berries. The red color of these berries will add a special flavor to the autumn motif depicted on the surface.

We make roses from large leaves. To do this, we simply bend them in half and roll them into a tube characteristic of a rose. We secure the structure by making a stitch at the bottom with a needle and thread.

Having prepared a stylized fragment autumn forest, let's start making the hedgehog itself, for which we sculpt it from plasticine.

Leaving the hedgehog's face untouched, we pierce the entire body with thin twigs; you can use toothpicks or matches, but with twigs it turns out more realistic.

You can place a small apple on the needles, real or made with your own hands, and you can also replace the apple with a mushroom, grape, or just a leaf, as you like.

Fragment of an autumn forest with inhabitants

On a cardboard for a DIY garden craft on the theme of autumn (photos) made from leaves, we lay out the autumn soil, as in the previous descriptions. You can perform the composition simply on clean slate paper.

We select beautiful leaves from different trees, we place each leaf on a wire, which we wrap in brown plasticine, stylizing the tree itself.

On the prepared base, we randomly lay out the bases of the trees made of plasticine, into which we insert the trees. So it turned out to be an autumn forest easily and simply.

Now the most interesting thing is that from pine cones of various sizes and configurations, as well as multi-colored plasticine, we sculpt a variety of bizarre and bright characters of fairy-tale forest animals.

Your child’s delight will know no bounds, because modern children so lack communication with mom and dad, so for them this joint creativity will be a real holiday.

Vegetable crafts

If you don’t have enough time for a walk collecting gifts of nature, you can do crafts for the kindergarten at autumn theme from fruits and vegetables. Here also large field to use your and your child’s creative potential.

Forest pumpkin hut

We depict a forest clearing using vegetables on a surface for a garden craft on the theme of autumn with our own hands (photos). To do this, we show our imagination, lay out moss, leaves, add flowers for brightness.

We sculpt one or two hedgehogs from plasticine and seeds, choosing a place for them in the foreground of the composition.

We place a figurine of a forest scarecrow, made of carrots and parsley, a little to the side; making it, like the whole composition, is very simple and quick.

We place a pumpkin in the center of the composition, having previously carried out some preparation. On the pumpkin, first make a cut on the side surface, then sharp knife a window is cut out.

We cover our forest hut on top with a bunch of straw, as shown in the photo.

Fruit bowl

Pumpkin is the most popular vegetable when making autumn crafts, it is a pleasure to work with it, and there is room for your imagination to run wild. It’s simply a fairy tale to see what masterly carriages you can create using it, but we offer the simplest crafts for the busiest parents.

We will make a vase in the shape of a chicken, for which we first peel and seed the pumpkin, and then make artistic cuts. We cut with a slight asymmetry on one side, the height of which should be less.

We don’t throw away the trimmings, they will make a tail for a chicken. Photos of our DIY vegetable craft for the garden on the theme of autumn are provided.

We fill our vase with various available fruits, preferably grapes and some berries.

Place a beautiful one on a small tray colored napkin and place the pumpkin with fruit, laying it on its side, long side down.

Stick in pumpkin scraps to create a beautiful tail.

On the short upper side of the pumpkin we attach a small white radish, peeled from the stems.

We stylize the radish as a chicken head with a scallop.

Place fruit on the remaining surface of the tray, our composition is ready.

Lamb with a bouquet of carrots

This is also an incredibly simple but very effective craft; you will need two heads of cauliflower, several carrots, and a pepper.

From one carrot we cut four legs, stick long toothpicks into each, and place the carrot parts on a stand ready to go.

On other carrots we make longitudinal notches in four places. Then cut part of the prepared carrots, up to about half, crosswise.

We string carrot circles onto long toothpicks to create stylized flowers. We stick the other end of the toothpick of each flower into the remaining part of the carrot, we have a vase of flowers.

Having prepared a stand for the lamb, crafts from vegetables for the garden on the theme of autumn with your own hands (photo), we proceed to its execution. First, cut off the stalks of cauliflower heads.

We place the largest and, preferably, slightly oblong head of cabbage on toothpicks in carrots. Next, we connect the second head of cabbage to the first using toothpicks.

At the junction we strengthen the pepper of any color and decorate the eyes in any way. Two reinforced leaves will serve as our ears.

Cheburashka from potatoes

You can also submit just a cute Cheburashka for the competition; it’s very simple to do, but the result is a rather touching craft.

Take two of the largest potatoes of any color and make a cut on one side.

From another large potato we cut the head and ears, and connect everything with toothpicks. On one side of the head we make a muzzle by inserting buttons and a bead.

We make the mouth from potato scraps.

We cut two small potatoes into two unequal parts, these will be the “handles” and “legs” of the Cheburashka, attach them to the body with toothpicks.

On one side we attach a bouquet of flowers, it’s just a miracle, what a cute creature!

Zucchini and carrot machine

You choose the size of the machine yourself, depending on the size of this vegetable you have. By the way, you can make such a machine from zucchini.

We start with carrots, cut them into four wheels and the rear design of the car.

We secure the wheels with long nails with caps. We carve the rear wheel to decorate the car.

From another fruit we cut a ring, 5-6 cm wide, cut it in half, clean out the seeds, place it on the top of the car as a body, and secure it with toothpicks.

We cut out windows in the “body” at the front and back, and attach half a small potato to the top.

A great craft for younger boys.

Cucumber caterpillar

This craft will turn out spectacular only from a long thin greenhouse cucumber.

Cut the cucumber and carrot into rings of equal thickness, then string everything one by one onto a thin wire.

We make eyes, a nose and a mouth, insert horns from green onion feathers. We place the caterpillar on a stand; you can also lay it out with leaves and moss.

Crafts from pine cones

Cones are also the most popular material for crafts; they are available and presented by nature in a wide variety. We recommend collecting pine cones while walking in the fall as soon as possible. more, because there is ahead New Year, so they will still be very useful to us.

Hedgehog

From gray fabric we sew an oblong bag with one elongated end, which will be the face of a hedgehog. Turn the bag inside out front side and stuff it with cotton wool.

We decorate the hedgehog's face by sewing on the eyes - beads, the nose - a button, the mouth and antennae from scrap material.

Stepping back a little from the narrow part of the bag, we sew the pre-prepared cones to the hedgehog’s body one by one.

After the hedgehog is ready, we decorate it with autumn gifts, depending on what you have, so the hedgehog will be much brighter and more attractive.

You can leave the hedgehog as a completely self-sufficient craft for a garden of pine cones (photos) on the theme of autumn with your own hands. However, if you have the material and time, then it is better to additionally depict a fragment of a forest autumn landscape on the stand, where you can place our craft - a hedgehog made of cones.

Thematic composition

This craft is also very simple and quick to do, and is quite suitable for children in the younger group.

We cut out a circle from cardboard, you can lay out leaves and moss, put a sprig of rowan, make mushrooms from plasticine and distribute them in the clearing.

Stepping back 5 centimeters from the edge of the circle, we install a plasticine flagellum on our round stand, gluing it to the stand around the entire circle.

Glue the cones to the plasticine rope, pressing them tightly against each other. The result was a kind of fairy-tale forest clearing, surrounded by spruce trees. If you wish, you can also paint these spruce cones with green paint.

In the clearing you can place several large or small potato hedgehogs, which will not be difficult to prepare.

Forest inhabitants

Not only hedgehogs can be made from cones, although this is the most popular choice of authors in crafts. We offer simple craft from pine cones (photos) for a kindergarten on the theme of autumn with your own hands, a romantic scene in the forest.

The most the best option for the stand of this mise-en-scene there will be a wooden circle of any thickness, but if this is not available, just a piece of cardboard will do.

From 2 cones round shape and more massive ones we collect a figurine of a forest hero, connecting them using plasticine.

From thinner and “slender” cones we assemble a figurine of a forest beauty, also using plasticine.

From twigs we select legs and arms for our forest inhabitants and attach them to the body, also using plasticine.

We attach the hero’s legs with an appropriate swing, symbolizing his kneeling state. Hands are sticks, they must be attached tightly to each other, between them we insert a beautiful autumn bouquet colors.

From clothes it is enough for him to attach a long leaf to the back and glue on the eyes.

You will have to work hard on the image of the beauty, choose slender stick legs, and attach them with plasticine. Hands should be open, but not for hugs, but out of surprise.

As much as our imagination allows, we dress up our beauty, and be sure to attach a rowan ornament strung on a thread to her neck.

We attach a cap to the head and set surprised eyes. What a beautiful romantic it turned out to be autumn scene In the woods!

Penguin family

An incredibly beautiful and very easy to do craft, it can very well decorate your home. It may seem that this topic and not quite autumn, but this is only at first glance, nature gives us cones in the fall.

We select for this craft beautiful stand, we cut it out figuratively and decorate it at our discretion.

We paint two small cones with white paint, you can apply silver glitter. We paint two large cones and one small one with black paint.

After the paint has dried, apply on one side white paint- breast of penguins.

On the stand we symmetrically strengthen two white cones - Christmas trees.

We attach arms, heads, eyes, beaks and mouths to the penguins, place them on a stand, add something fluffy and shiny, further decorating the picture.
