Beautiful neckband. Learning to crochet

For teenagers

Instructions

Insert the hook between the edge loops at the left shoulder seam. Knit the first loop, moving it from front to back, so that you have two loops on your hook. Yarn over the hook and pull the yarn over through two loops. Repeat this type tying along the entire neckline until you have tied it entirely. Pay special attention to accuracy in the rounded areas of the neck.

You can also knit the neckband using a chain stitch. To do this, make a chain stitch along the edge of the neckline and tie neck from the left shoulder seam, inserting the hook into the chain stitch loop and pulling the thread. Continue working the chain stitch In a similar way along the entire neck line.

Sew the neck tape on both the front side and the back side so that it does not pull the edges of the item. Do not over-tighten the knit stitch thread.

You can sew the neckband in another way - to do this, cast on loops, having previously calculated their number and tie a 2x2 elastic band, and then remove edge loop and yarn over, knit the next stitch on the left needle. Continue knitting in the same way until you complete the entire row.

Moving to the next row, start shooting on right knitting needle all purl loops, without knitting them, placing the thread before work. Knit facial loops yarn over all over and turn the workpiece over, and then knit all the loops that you removed in the previous row.

Repeat the same in the next three rows, then divide knitted fabric in two, placing each part on its own knitting needle. Close the loops on one of the knitting needles in any way. Iron the part where you just looped, and then carefully iron the part where the loops were left open.

Sew the binding with a quilt stitch using a needle and thread as described above, starting from the left shoulder seam.

A collar should be a decoration for both casual and dressy clothing. In knitting, the design of necklines is a very important moment. Think about this part of the work in advance. Proceed to work only after all the smallest details have been taken into account.

Crocheting is such a broad art that even crocheting the edges of a wide variety of products allows you to choose from a variety of possible options. Moreover, such a detail as crocheted a border can give a simple thing, like the most ordinary dress or blouse, an elegant, sophisticated look, or, conversely, turn it into an absurd-looking item that you don’t want to wear, even if it turns out to be the only one in your wardrobe. Therefore, it is so important to learn how to combine crochet styles and successfully apply them to the details that play a role in shaping the style - the edges of the product, crocheted.

Tablecloths, handkerchiefs, napkins, towels, curtains, sleeves and the neck of any wardrobe component will look completely new if you choose the right pattern for crocheting the edges. By the way, this technique is also used if there is a need to “hide” the mistakes of the craftswoman, which can be easily seen with the naked eye on the edges of the products. And also finishing the edges with different knitted patterns can give a second life to any old thing that you don’t want to part with.

Crocheting the edge of a product - diagrams and description

Choosing the right pattern on the border is already half the success. This issue has its own subtleties that are important to consider when choosing a pattern for the edge of the product:

  • Narrow border (up to 1.5 cm) - suitable for light knitted items with openwork motifs, and also ideal for children's clothing;
  • Border extending into the collar (5-8 cm or 15-20 cm) - goes with most knitted items.
  • Wide trim pattern (1.5 - 4.5 cm) - looks good on products made from medium-thick yarn, namely on the edges of the sleeves and neck of jumpers and pullovers.

A beautiful pattern along the edge can be knitted directly when creating the whole thing - then you won’t have to worry about adjusting the openwork ribbon to the product, but you can sew on a finished border by knitting it in advance. The choice here is quite simple.

But the options for patterns for tying the edges provide much more space. So, what are they possible options Do needlewomen have finishing and finishing edges of crocheted products?

  • Rachy step

The most favorite option for crocheting edges among beginner knitters is crayfish step, consisting of single crochets, which are knitted from left to right: starting to the right of the working loop. This pattern allows you to maintain the original shape of the canvas, preventing the edge from stretching. This method of tying edges also has its own variations.

Walking step from left to right

The hook is inserted into the first loop on the right and a single crochet is knitted. Insert the hook into the next loop on the right and work a single crochet again. And so on until the end of the row.

Walking step from right to left

This option for tying the edges is considered more complex, but also more familiar. WITH working loop on the hook, insert the hook into the loop on the left and grab the working thread. Pull the yarn through and with both loops on the hook, turn the nose of the hook counterclockwise (see diagram above). After twisting the loops on the hook, make a yarn over and pull it through both loops on the hook. With one working loop on the hook, insert the hook into the loop on the left (moving away from you) and grab the working thread. Pull out the loop. Twist the loops on the hook again, yarn over and pull it through both loops on the hook. Continue in the same manner. The resulting rad should look something like this.

  • Pico

Pico crochet patterns.

Picot binding consists of chains of several closed in a circle. air loops- from three or more. These loops are ideal for tying cuffs and sleeves.

A series of picots are performed on front side products. Make 1 chain stitch, skip the first single crochet, work 1 single crochet into the next single crochet. Work a chain of 4 chain stitches, then do a half double crochet in the first stitch of the chain to make a picot. Work 1 single crochet into each of the next 2 single crochets. Continue knitting a picot and 2 single crochets around the edge of the piece in the same way. There are also several other picot knitting options (see diagram above).

  • Arched frame or Shell

The pattern is created by knitting loops of different heights with the highest loop in the center. The shell can be made in a row, tied by posts single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. The binding is performed on the front side of the product. Make 1 chain stitch, work 1 single crochet into the next stitch. Skip 1 stitch, do 1 half double crochet, 3 double crochets and 1 half double crochet, all in the next stitch. Skip 1 stitch and work 1 single crochet into the next stitch to secure the edge of the shell. Continue tying the edge of the piece with shells in the same way.

  • Border of decorative openwork patterns

Here the shape and all kinds of patterns are not limited by anything except the imagination and capabilities of the knitter. There are many options for crocheting an openwork border, from simpler ones to incredibly complex ones. Often they are crocheted separately from the entire product and then sewn into the right edges. Let's look at several schemes and ways to use them on different things.

Neck strap

Very often, needlewomen are looking for ways to crochet the neck of a sweater or cardigan so as to hide the open sections of the product, and at the same time the item takes on a more interesting and special look. There are many ways to do this; you just need to choose from dozens of schemes the most suitable harness in style. Let's look at a few examples of how to beautifully crochet a neckline to improve the look of a knitted item and not ignore the principle of completeness.

  • Quick neck tie

This step by step option design is suitable for beginners and those needlewomen who do not have time to perform more complex neck processing. It turns out beautiful and simple.

The knitted product can be decorated with a neck made in a circle, or the ends of the neck can be connected with a seam.

Let's take it finished canvas and using a crochet hook from the wrong side of the working thread, pull a loop onto the front side.

In this way we put several loops on the hook. Important: the loops should not be cast on loosely.

Then these loops are transferred to the knitting needle, after which we continue to pick up loops using a hook. We pull out a loop with a crochet hook, throw it onto a knitting needle, etc.

The loops are cast on. Now we knit the first row so that from the wrong side there are facial loops, and purl in the front row. If we knit the neckline in a circle, we knit the purl loops. If with a seam - facial ones.

If you want to achieve a “factory effect” of connecting the collar to the product, we knit the first row with knitting needles like this: wrong side of the product, the first row is knitted with knit stitches (on the front side the loops will be purl), and then the first row on the front side looks as if the collar is stitched with a needle.

According to the first option of knitting the first row, the following result is obtained:

Then we knit a neckline of the required length. If this is a loop lapel, we close it with knitting needles or crochet, as desired. If it is a stand-up collar, it is better to close the loops with a needle.

  • Beautiful neck finish

This is also an easy crochet option. beautiful region, in which the most difficult and important thing is to correctly calculate the pattern’s repeat.

The height of the rapport is the width of the bar. The width of the repeat is the number of loops by which the number of loops of the entire length of the neck is divided without remainder. For example: the height of the bar is 16 rows. 16/2=8. Rapport cannot be less than 8 loops. On 8 loops we will have an openwork decker.

IN in this case neck 180 loops. The selection method was used to determine the repeat of 12 loops 180:12=15. 15 repetitions of rapport.

Better to have 2 additional loops for stitching the strip. In my case this is not the case, but the difference in the neckline pattern at the shoulder line is not noticeable.

You need to knit according to the following pattern, which shows only odd rows:

  • Floral pattern

The pattern for tying is a bush made from a chain of three chain loops and two double crochets. It is knitted from one point - the base of the chain. The bushes are secured with a half-column at a certain distance from each other (for example, in two loops of the securing row of the neck). At the beginning of the row, you should make one air loop for lifting. Follow the pattern.

Beautiful sleeve treatment

Often, crocheting a sleeve is done in the same pattern as the neckline - this way the item is kept in the same uniform style, which means it looks harmonious. Let's try to knit several easy-to-make patterns.

  • Scallops for sleeves

First of all, cast on a chain of 5 chain stitches.

Insert the hook under the cast-on chain, grab the working thread and pull out the loop.

Grab the working thread again and knit elongated loop. This is how the first single crochet is obtained, connected from under the chain, and there are 2 loops left on the hook.

Knit the elongated loop, adding another loop to the hook.

When there are 11 loops on the hook, grab the working thread and knit all the loops from the hook.

Now secure the scallop by knitting a single crochet, leaving 3 stitches from the beginning of the scallop. Knit scallops to the end of the row, following the step-by-step photo.

It is necessary to work according to the following scheme:

  • Large lace border

At the beginning of the row, tie a chain stitch. Insert the hook under the nearest braid of the edge to be tied. Knit a single crochet. Knit the air loop again.

Insert the hook into the front loop of the top braid of the single crochet crocheted earlier and then insert the hook into the left side loop of the same single crochet. Insert the hook under the nearest braid of the edge to be tied. Pull out the loop. Pick up the thread and knit a single crochet. You need to repeat from points 4 to 8. The result is a binding around the edge that, due to its elasticity, will not tighten the bottom of the product.

Bottom of the product

You can crochet the bottom of the product in the most different ways, but we will consider one of the easiest options, and more complex and beautiful way bindings, suitable not only for knitted items, but also for towels, tablecloths and other products made of material.

  • Trimming the bottom of a Pico item

Along the edge of the product, start knitting with two single crochets.
Next, make 3 air loops and point the hook at the base of the single crochet stitch as shown in the photo. Then again perform two single crochets and 3 chain stitches after them.

  • Floral border

Row with floral motif knitted as follows: 3 ch. lifting, 3 dc in the first arch from vp, 1 dc in the next arch. We begin to knit a flower: 3 ch, 3 unfinished dc on one base loop, knit all the loops on the hook = 1st petal. 4 ch, remove the hook from the knitting, insert it into the upper part of the connected group of stitches from right to left, grab the last loop of the chain and pull it through all the loops = ring.

Next petal: *3 ch, 2 dc in a ring, 3 ch, sc in a ring* (= 2nd petal), repeat from * to * 2 more times. Last petal: ch 3, 3 unfinished dc, knit all loops on hook (= 5th petal). The flower is ready.

3 DC through one arch of the previous row, 1 DC into the next arch, and begin to knit the next flower.

Video lesson

Decorate the edges knitted products crochet is not an easy task, because first you need to pick up beautiful pattern, then tie it correctly and without unnecessary broaches, and then sew it on so that it looks perfect, and most importantly, in its place. It may be difficult for novice craftswomen to cope with this task at first, but do not despair. You can always “peep” the secrets of this craft from more experienced craftswomen.

Crocheting the edge of a product video:

With processing problem open cuts products are encountered by all needlewomen. Let's consider, for example, how to crochet a neckline in several ways. We will also step by step analyze the proposed patterns and ornaments for finishing the edge.

Neck design options

The raw edge can be finished in one of several ways. We list the main options for crocheting a neckline and decorating a product:

  • Narrow border (no more than 0.5-1.5 cm). A narrow edging or hem is ideal for light, openwork and children's items.
  • Border turning into a collar (from 5-8 to 15-20 cm). Can be combined with any types of products.
  • Wide finishing ornament (from 1.5 to 4-5 cm). Most often used to decorate the neckline and sleeve edges of pullovers and jumpers made from medium-thick yarn.

Sometimes novice needlewomen don’t know how to crochet a neckline beautifully. In this case, you can use By the way, they are used not only for decorating wickerwork. An ordinary fabric dress can be easily transformed into festive outfit, decorated with a small accessory. Details that are contrasting in color look especially stylish (photo 1). Then a neckline is not required at all. The schemes of such removable products assume to operate in a top-down direction. That is, first several rows are knitted, the first of which will be the edge, and then, following the instructions, a slight uniform expansion is performed.

Processing the bottom of the product, processing the armhole or sleeves and crocheting the neckline in the same style

The most harmonious look is the same finish of open cuts. Agree that cutting out and sewing fabric trims is a rather labor-intensive process. And the use of other technologies (embroidery, macrame) can also be quite problematic. Therefore, very often, to decorate products sewn from fabric or made with knitting needles, one of the most common types of needlework is used - crocheting. Neck banding, especially on T-shirts, tops, dresses and other lightweight (including openwork and children's) products with an open armhole or short sleeves, is usually carried out in the same way. The first row is usually done with single crochets. And only then you can fantasize to your taste, using different techniques. Then the product will look stylistically complete, neat and beautiful. Let's start with the simplest "crawfish step" pattern, which is most often used to crochet the neckline. In this case, diagrams will not be required, since it will be very easy to complete the work based on the text description.

Performing the “crawfish step” pattern

How to crochet a neckline so that the edge is even and does not stretch? For this, use not simple columns, but a pattern that is unusual in its technology. In this case, the work will be done in the opposite direction - from left to right, which is why the name of the mating is associated with a crayfish moving backwards. So, having reached the edge of the fabric and completed the last loop of the row of single crochets, do not turn the product reverse side. Insert the hook into the last element of the base, directing it from the front (turning clockwise 90°), and pry the working thread, pre-tensioned to the left, through the hole. Two loops have formed on the tool, knit them. Then, moving backwards, perform a “crawly step” to the end of the row. The edge of the product will be in the form of scars obtained from overlapping threads. This neck finishing can be done either with main threads to match the product or with finishing threads.

Description of schemes for finishing the neck

Let's look at several simple, but quite elegant ornaments that are made on top of a preliminary row of single crochets (in the diagrams - a chain of air loops).

Designation ** - rapport, that is, repetition of the same elements until the end of the row.

Pattern one:

1 rub. - *2 pillars with 1 air, 1 air P.*;

2 r. - *arch of 4 air. p. over the column., 1 column. without nac. in air P.*;

3 r. - *fan of alternating 5 columns. with 1 yarn over and 4 air. p. in one arch of the previous row, then 1 column. without a crochet into another arch*.

Pattern two:

1 rub. - *pillar. with 1 yarn over*;

2 r. - *fan of 4 pillars. with double cap., 3 air. P.*;

3 r. - *into the pillar. last row 2 columns. with 1 yarn over, 3 air. p., picot from 3 air. p., 3 air. n., 2 columns. with 1 yarn over *.

Pattern three:

1 rub. - *pillar. without air, 3 picots from 3 air. n., column. no air, 5 air p. over 3 loops of the previous row *;

2 r. - *pillar. without nac. in arches made of air. p., 9 air. p. over the pico group*;

3 r. - *9 column. without nac. on top of the air n., 1 column. without nac. into the pillar last row*.

The simplest and at the same time elegant way to finish a product with the “Fan” pattern

Any edge will look neat when using this fairly simple design. You don’t have to be a super craftsman and know all the tricks on how to crochet a neckline. It is enough to learn how to perform only a chain of air loops, and without it. The ornament consists of three rows, but if desired, you can repeat them several times. The result will be a wider openwork border.

1 rub. - along the edge of the canvas, make arches of 5 air. loops (we skip 3 loops on the base) and a post. without crochet;

2 r. - repeat the previous row, knitting a post. into air arches;

3 r. - alternate the pillar. without a crochet (with a similar column of the previous row) and a fan in an arch, made of 5 columns: 1 without a crochet, 3 with 1 crochet, 1 without a crochet.

Two ways to knit corners

What are the features of edge processing with the above pattern? In making turning lines and corners. Tying can be done in two ways:

1. In the case where you plan to make only the main ornament without repetition, you can rely on the photo provided. Then there will be one of the scars at the very corner.

2. If you want to make the openwork border wider, you should slightly change the technology. To do this, when performing 1 row at the very corner, make an arch of air. loops and single crochets (preceding it and ending it), knit into one base loop (at the very corner). Then, as a result, there will be no toothed fan on the corner. It will appear after repeating 1-3 rows.

Therefore, you should immediately decide how to crochet the neckline - make it in the form of a narrow embossed edge or wide border. And only after that plan your further work. Otherwise, the neck will turn out to be tight and with a concave corner connecting it to the strip of the product.

“Second life” of the neck. Repairing old things

Often knitwear they lose their socks in the process original appearance and shape. In this case, the neck can be processed. In this case, appearance will become fresh and attractive. Carry out the tying as follows:

Use sharp scissors to cut off the trim, trim, or collar;

If necessary, baste the edge with wide stitches, turning the fabric inward by 0.5 cm;

If the fabric has a fine knit, the basting heel may not be done;

Knit the first row with single crochets, slightly pulling the fabric downwards, they can also be alternated with 1-2 air loops (especially when using contrasting yarn), retreating from each other by 3-5 mm;

Repeat the work in the round until the desired width of the knitted binding is reached (usually 2-2.5 cm).

Making an openwork border

Let's look at one of the options for tying the neck, relying on the proposed diagram:

1 rub. - a chain of ordinary air loops;

2 r. - alternating pillars. without nac. and arches of 3 air. loops;

3, 4, 5 r. - knitting in the arch: 2 columns. with inc., 2 air. loops (3rd row), 3 air. loops (4th row), 4 air. loops (5th row), and in the column. base - 1 column. with nak.;

6 rub. - knitting into the arch 9 columns. with 2 columns, alternating them with 1 column. from 1 ac. to the base;

7 rub. - knitting in the first column. base 9 columns. with 2 air., alternating them with 1 air. loop, in the intervals between them - performing 2 arches of 4 air. loops;

8 rub. - on top of arches of 9 pillars. with nak. execution of 4 arches from 3 air. loops, and on top of the air arches. loops - knitting a post. with 2 ac.

You can slightly interpret the proposed pattern by finishing the work after completing the 5th row. Another, more compact openwork version- knitting 5-8 rows with a mandatory arched serrated edge.

How to crochet a neckline in the shape of an openwork yoke?

In some cases, the job of finishing the open edge is done in reverse. This means that the openwork yoke is knitted first, and then the entire product. This option is most often used in the manufacture of models with round finishing parts. If the yoke should be square for easier connection with the main fabric, add increases in four places. The result will be corners adjacent on one side to the armhole, and on the other to the upper horizontal lines of the front and back. At the same time, many products differ not only in the technology of making various parts - an openwork yoke and a main fabric made of dense regular knitting are often used and various materials. Now it is very fashionable, for example, to make a silk blouse openwork yoke. Or trim a knitted cardigan with a lattice collar.

Decorating the neck of fabric products using a hook

This knitted edging looks very fashionable. But, unlike knitted fabric, it is quite problematic to crochet the fabric. What recommendations should you follow to get a beautiful neck?

Use a knitting tool with a pointed tip to pierce the fabric more easily.

It is desirable that the structure of the thread and fabric match (for example, wool yarn more suitable for drape and similar fabric).

Pre-processing of the edge with an internal hem is required.

Of course, not all needlewomen succeed, and not everyone knows how to beautifully crochet a neckline. But surely the advice and descriptions of patterns and patterns given in this article will help you finish your products in a stylish, original and neat way.

Each needlewoman, having knitted the desired product, is faced with the problem of choosing a method for tying the neck. This process is very important. After all, the neck is always in sight, and how it is processed depends on general form things. Also, tying the neck can fix an already worn item if, for example, the neck has stretched over time. The neckline can be worked using knitting needles and a crochet hook.

You can decorate the neckline in this way not only on a knitted item, but also on a fabric item. To do this, using a needle and thread, a “frame” is sewn for the future binding - a seam is made along the edge of the neckline. Next, single crochets or connecting posts and after that the neckline is knitted according to the chosen pattern.

Features of crocheting a neckline

Regardless of which crochet method and pattern is chosen, first you need to process the edge of the neckline with a series of single crochets. In this case, depending on the type of neck, you need to take into account some features:

When tying V-shape neck, you need to pay special attention to its angle. To ensure that the binding does not wrinkle, single crochets should be made not in each link of the loops of the product, but after one or two, depending on the sharpness of the angle.

Neck strap square shape also requires special attention. The corners can be smoothed out a little by tying chains of air loops at the corners of the neckline, connecting its sides. The number of air loops is calculated individually, depending on the thickness of the threads and the shape of the neck.

Tying the neck oval shape, you should be careful not to tighten it too much during work.

Which pattern should I choose?

The most common type of neck binding is the crawfish step. This type is the simplest and does not require diagrams. The most novice knitter can handle it. But this does not mean that this method of tying will look very simple. As a result, the edge of the neckline looks neat and beautiful. So, how to crochet a neckline using the “crawfish step”. This binding gets its name due to the fact that it is knitted in the opposite direction to the main knitting. That is, single crochets are knitted from left to right. As a result, the edge ends up with small jagged edges.

There are also simple patterns for crocheting a neckline, which consist of 2-3 rows. They look more elegant than the “crawfish step”. True, you need to spend a little more time creating them. For example, here is a simple harness:

Not taking into account the first required row of single crochets along the edge of the neckline:

Row 1 – alternating 2 double crochets, 1 chain stitch

2nd row – 1 single crochet in chain stitch, 4 chain stitches

3rd row - alternating 5 double crochets with 1 chain stitch in the arch bottom row, 1 single crochet in the next arch.

For clarity, below is a diagram of the described type of binding with a photograph of the resulting result. The diagram below also shows two more types of simple patterns.

Another simple tying option is knitting fans. The fan is made by knitting several stitches into the same loop or base arch. To do this, first, chains of air loops are knitted along the edge of the product, creating windows. The next row will be knitting fans into these windows. Here you can get creative with the sizes of arches and fans.

This article contains the most simple methods edge processing. In order to better understand how to crochet a neckline, the video below will be a great help. Whatever tying method you choose, the main thing is to correctly knit the first row of single crochets so that the neckline does not become tight or, on the contrary, wrinkled in the future.

Video on the topic of the article

To give a newly knitted item a finished look, you need to carefully tie its edge. Knitted fabric at the same time, it will stop curling, since its edges will become rigid, old thing will acquire completely the new kind. This fairly simple job can be done different ways.

We bring to your attention video tutorials that tell you how to properly tie the edges of knitted items in various ways. They are not difficult to master, and soon you will be able to give your work beautiful view, which they acquire after strapping.

Very simple edge binding, quite understandable for beginners. The first row is knitted with single crochets, in the second and third rows a French mesh is formed, and on the fourth row fans are made, consisting of eight double crochets. This row turns out to be the most beautiful. The result is an edging with a pattern made up of semicircular elements, the basis of which is connected fans.

For any fabric, it is enough to knit the first initial row, and then you can form the pattern. It makes a good edging for robe collars. It is simply sewn to the base material.

Video lesson:

The edge tied in this way becomes smooth and dense, reminiscent of a pigtail. This method is used to tie armholes and necklines, edges of the sides. knitted clothes, created by knitting or crocheting. This seam is used to strengthen the edges of pockets and scarves. The method got its name because it is formed not in the usual direction from right to left, but on the contrary, as if moving backwards.

You can use the same thread for tying that you used to knit the item itself, but this thread can be taken in a different color: colored edging looks neat on any knitted item, decorating it overall design unexpected frame.

Video lesson:

This beautiful finish consists of small pompoms, each of which is attached to the edge of the material with two posts. It turns out zigzag pattern, where at the top of each zigzag there is a neat pompom. The pattern looks very beautiful and formal. It can be used to decorate large items such as knitted blankets, shawls or pillows.

The use of “pompoms” creates a design that complements and emphasizes knitted pattern, which was used on the base item. Despite all the apparent complexity of the pattern, it is created very simply and is quite accessible even to beginners.

Video lesson:

This method of tying the edges of knitted items is extremely simple, but looks impressive. From four single crochets a small bead is formed, dense and neat. Whole line Such beads, located close to one another, can decorate tightly knitted items, but they can also be suitable for patterned blankets or shawls.

The binding is not necessarily done along a straight edge; you can also tie patterned surfaces and even wavy edges. The resulting volumetric harness The edge looks very nice if it is made in a different color, contrasting to the color of the main knitting thread.

Video lesson:

If you want to not only strengthen the edges of a knitted item with a binding, but also decorate them interesting pattern, try this knitting option. Simple columns their interweaving is formed, and a pattern is obtained with arches and openings, repeated in two tiers.

Despite the complexity of the pattern, it is quite simple to obtain it - you just need not to get confused in the alternation of loops and in the arrangement of repeating columns. The pattern can be based on absolutely in any form knitted loops, you can edge any knitted item regardless of whether it was crocheted or knitted. It will still turn out beautiful.

Video lesson:

Five single crochets crocheted in the same stitch form a neat little shell, with the loops making up the edge and the stitches making fan-shaped waves, just like on a real shell. This is simple and interesting way, how to crochet the edge of a product, giving the edge of any knitted item an interesting look.

It is especially impressive if the shells are knitted from a thread of a different color than the main product; the resulting contrasting pattern perfectly frames any knitting. Even if the product was received in the most in a simple way knitted, its edging in a similar way gives it an interesting unusual look.

Video lesson:

Crochet edges for napkins or handkerchiefs are offered in several options. Napkins can be any kind, linen or silk; depending on the thickness of the fabric, the thickness of the thread used for edging is also selected. It is quite possible to use spool thread number 20-30 to match the napkin or in a contrasting color.

The scarf is cut from fabric strictly in the direction of the threads. One thread is pulled out one centimeter from each edge, and using the resulting grooves we begin to make a binding. A chain of loops is created along the edge of the napkin, which become the basis of the pattern created from threads.

Video lesson:

By periodically turning the knitting over and using the instructions for creating a pattern, we get a fairly thick cord along the edge of the knitted item, resembling a caterpillar in appearance. A method is also proposed for knitting such a pattern without turning over the entire work, with intercepting the hook, which is convenient if you are knitting an oversized shawl or blanket that is inconvenient to turn over.

It describes in detail how to get a “caterpillar” on indirect, rounded knitting edges, both convex and concave. In this way, sleeves, collars, the bottom edge of the product and even the edges of hats are tied. The result is a very decorative pattern.

Video lesson:

A small pattern is knitted from half-stitches, fastened on every third stitch of the row, and two loops are skipped. The result is an edging of repeating small semicircles, following one after another. This border can also be knitted in the round; detailed instructions are also given for this.

A large border will not come in handy for every item, but I still want to somehow improve the appearance. In this case, a small border is ideal, which can be knitted from the same thread as the item itself, or from yarn contrasting color. It is quite possible to decorate even a patterned knitted item with such a border.

Video lesson:

We offer a master class on knitting borders. In every third loop of the item being tied, a set of stitches is made, which forms small neat semicircles. The result is a simple, but very pretty edging with a pattern of small semicircles.

This pattern can border both continuous and patterned knitting, and organize the edges of blankets and shawls, sweaters and cardigans. It will add elegance and airiness to any pattern of the main fabric, harmonizing perfectly with any basic knitting pattern. The border has a wave width of three loops, is not too conspicuous and serves as a modest decoration.
