Fabric applique for children templates. Colorful fabric appliqués

Christmas

Fabric appliqués, which are handmade from various scraps of fabric, can turn into a chic decoration for a throw, sofa cushion or baby blanket. But the question arises of how to make fabric appliqués correctly? Let's try to figure this out on our own.

In the photo of fabric appliqués, you can see that the process of creating a fabric appliqué is quite simple, but at the same time an exciting experience.

Fabric appliqué process

Let's present a master class on how to make an applique with your own hands, where we will try to create a bird on our own from different scraps of fabric.

To make an appliqué out of fabric, you need to use shreds of fabric of various colors, as well as sewing threads that would match the colors of the shreds. In addition, you will need crayon, scissors and small beads.

At the heart of the application there can be two main shreds of fabric. The main requirement is that they be tight. In this regard, many needlewomen recommend taking felt. This will help to make the application not only pleasant in appearance, but also to the touch.

There are various fabric appliqué ideas. We will opt for the image of a bird sitting on a branch. This applique will be displayed on the sofa cushion.

According to the instructions, you need to take a large piece of fabric. It is important that it be face up. In turn, we turn the other shreds upside down and with the help of chalk we mark on it the details of the future application.

Details are obtained by cutting out figures from thick sheets of paper. In our case, it will be a small bird on a branch. Next, we carefully cut out the figures from the fabric along the contour that was noted earlier.

Application collection

So, we proceed to the most important stage of creating an application - the collection of the constituent elements of the future bird. First of all, a bright scarlet breast is sewn to the body of the fabric craft. It is best to use a sewing machine for this, which imposes a chain stitch on the fabric.

The advantage of this type is the high strength of the craft, giving visual beauty to the creation. It is desirable to find the same threads for stitching.

In the event that the machine is not available, then the seams are applied manually. To give more expressiveness to the application, experts recommend using a thicker thread than we are used to before.

Using a ruler-triangle and other measuring instruments, we determine the place where it is advisable to place the central figure of the application. This is done against the general background of a piece of fabric so that it looks symmetrical. Placing a bird on a single piece of fabric involves adding a fabric element in the form of a branch.

Giving volume to the figure

On the wrong side, a seam is formed in the form of a contour of a figure in the form of a bird and a twig on which it sits. We cut the seam with special care and fill the bird with cotton wool or other special soft filler. Then we also carefully sew the resulting incision with a hidden seam.

As a result of these actions, our bird has grown significantly in size and has become very soft. Again we resort to the help of the iron, stroking the fabric appliqué.

We still need to sew on the beak and eye of the bird. If you have free time, you can embroider small branches next to the large branch on which the bird sits. To do this, you can use braid or knitting yarn of a thick size. The most important thing is that they match the tone of the main branch.

The beginner instructions require that we add small beads pliz small branches. Clusters of rowan are obtained.

Thus, the fabric appliqué in the form of a bird on a rowan branch is completely ready. A pillow with this image will become a real decoration of the interior and will give it special features. Existing templates and patterns for manufacturing will greatly simplify the work associated with the creation of such applications.

Photo of fabric applications

Applications are always exciting and interesting, so many children are happy to take on the creation of such crafts. Most often on children's applications flowers are depicted: both in the kindergarten and at school, they often make postcards for Mother's Day with the image of flowers, and also invite children to decorate flower meadows or spring landscapes.

Floral appliqués amaze with their diversity; in different paintings, the design is made in a wide variety of styles: from a simple flat cardboard flower to a lush fabric bud. The fabric rose on the application can be made so skillfully that it will be very similar to the real one. It is this variety of types of floral applications that gives the already familiar paintings and postcards a little originality, and different level of difficulty for crafts makes them accessible not only to small children, but also to adults interested in creativity and needlework. To make an interesting appliqué using three-dimensional fabric flowers, use the master classes given in this article.

One of the classic children's applications, familiar to everyone from kindergarten, is a vase of flowers. Such crafts are usually made specifically for mothers, sisters, grandmothers, or simply to replenish children's albums, room decoration. To make such an application, you simply need cardboard, colored paper, scissors and glue (pencil or PVA). The next master class will tell you how to make a picture with your own hands.

  1. Draw a vase on a sheet of colored paper or use a pre-prepared stencil. Cut out the shape.
  2. Also draw on paper in different colors loose buds. Cut them out and put them in a vase.
  3. Cut out thin green lines (stalks) and leaves from green paper.
  4. Start painting. Take a sheet of cardboard as a base and lay it vertically. Glue the vase onto the bottom half of the sheet. At the top, attach the stems peeking out of the vase. Scatter the flower buds and leaves evenly over the stems.

The originality of an ordinary paper picture or postcard can be given with the help of volume. Volumetric applications "Flowers" look more interesting than the usual flat counterparts, so getting them, and even more so doing it yourself, is much more fun. The next master class will tell you how to make a postcard with voluminous daisies in a pot.

  1. From a sheet of colored paper, cut out a pot in the shape of a semicircle.
  2. Cut out some green stripes. Set aside three of them for the stems, and for the remaining two or three pieces, fold the ends, forming small loops - chamomile leaves. Glue the ends.
  3. Now you need to make the buds themselves. Use a yellow circle of paper as the core, and cut out a few thin white stripes for the petals. With each of them it is necessary to do the same work as with the sheets. Having made the petals, glue their bases to the wrong side of the yellow circle. To make the parts glue evenly and turn out to be the same size, you can draw a smaller circle on the core and glue the petals along this line. In the master class, it is proposed to make three such flowers.
  4. Collect all the details in one application. per sheet Glue the pot on cardboard, place green stems with leaves in it, and then arrange the chamomile buds.

simple fabric flowers

If ordinary paper applications are already tired, you want something new and unusual, you can try yourself in fabric crafts. They are no more difficult than paper and cardboard products, especially if a child or an adult who decides to do needlework has some sewing skills or ordinary work with a needle and thread. The following three-dimensional fabric flowers nor can be easily done with your own hands, even for beginners in the world of needlework.

  1. First, make a cardboard base: cut a circle of small diameter (maximum ten centimeters). Wrap the base in fabric.
  2. Sew the edges of the resulting figure using a regular seam. In this case, the thread must be tightened more tightly to get a bag.
  3. We sew a large button into the very center, and put a smaller button on top and also attach it to the product, fully forming the core for the flower.
  4. When finished with a button, bring the thread to the wrong side , and then sew the resulting flower to a piece of fabric or clothes e.

Such lush and airy flowers will help not only to create a beautiful application, but also to decorate clothes in an interesting way. Many needlewomen use this technology for sheathing dresses, skirts and all kinds of tops, trying to give this piece of clothing tenderness. Meanwhile, making such beautiful flowers with your own hands is very simple, if you make every effort. A master class on creating an application "Flower" from fabric is provided below.

  1. Make a round template out of cardboard. You can make several different sizes if you need a variety of flowers.
  2. Attach the templates to the mesh fabric (can be replaced with guipure or soft tulle) and circle, and then cut out. For each flower, you need to make five or six such circles of fabric.
  3. Take a bunch of fabric pieces and sew them to the piece of appliqué fabric or garment at the inside edges, pulling the fabric together a little and thereby preventing it from puckering. In the same way, do the work with the second row of petals, shifting them a little. Some of the petals in this row can be left loose to make the flower appear natural.
  4. Last layer of petals form from petals smaller or the same size, but bent in half to make the bud as natural as possible.
  5. When finished, take a beautiful button or a few beads and sew on as a core for a flower.

Here are such beautiful flower applications you can make with your own hands from paper and fabric. Crafts can be used as a gift to relatives or home decoration.

Appliqué is a decoration process that is made by sewing or gluing an image onto fabric or paper. With the help of various motifs, you can not only decorate things, but also hide small defects. In fact, the application plays a decorative function, decorating a particular product. Some needlewomen try not to complicate their work and buy ready-made motifs in the store, but most craftswomen make patterns on their own, cutting them out of fabric. After all, in this way, you can bring your ideas to life.

Let's take an example of how to make an appliqué out of fabric.

rainbow tree

If you do not know what material is best to take for work, then we recommend felt. It does not crumble, however, it is not suitable for summer clothes. Now we will tell you how the appliqué is performed on fabric, the diagrams for the work “Rainbow Tree” are attached.

So, prepare the following materials:

  • pieces of fabric of different colors;

Patchwork house

Conscientious needlewomen do not throw away scraps of fabric, but create real masterpieces from them. For such craftswomen, an ordinary hobby turns into a source of income. From scraps they make pictures that are framed. Using the example of a master class, we will tell you how to make a colorful picture that depicts a house.

The following materials are required for work:

  • linen fabric;
  • wooden hoops;
  • patches of felt;
  • thread with a needle;
  • pins;
  • scissors;
  • glue.

Step 2. Draw a template for the future picture on cardboard. It is advisable to use geometric shapes.

Step 3. Attach the blanks to the prepared felt and cut out the details separately: a trapezoid - a roof, a large rectangle - a facade, two small rectangles - windows, two cone-shaped parts - a window in the attic.

Step 4. Pin the main workpiece in the center of the fabric and sew it with a simple seam.

Step 5. Do the same manipulation with other details. The order and location of the elements, see the proposed pictures. Choose colors according to your taste.

Now you need to make flowers and petals. They are performed as follows:

Step 1. Cut out small circles from different scraps of felt.

Step 3. Cut out petals from green felt.

Step 4. Arrange the details on the fabric as shown in the picture. But you can experiment and arrange at your discretion. In other words, create your composition.

Step 5. Sew all the elements with a small, neat stitch in the same way as you sewed on the house. The color of the threads must match the color of the fabric.

Step 6. Trim the edges of the fabric, leaving a small overlap to wrap inside the hoop and glue them.

Step 7. After the glue has dried, cut the fabric as close to the hoop as possible with scissors - “zigzag”.

The most difficult thing in decorating children's clothes is the idea of \u200b\u200bthe pattern. So, a fabric applique, you will find templates for this in the photo below under the cut.

The schemes are very simple, you can use any graphic editor to leave only the contours themselves, and then enlarge the picture, print it, or draw it on cardboard (thick paper) by hand in the desired size. Cut out details.

Now it’s up to the small thing - to decide on the material for decorating things, find threads that match the color, get a sewing machine.

Decoration of clothes with appliqué

Ideas for decorating children's things are taken from German stores for children. Everyone is there, but when it comes down to it, if you urgently need or just want to modify the child’s everyday little things, please him, make them special, original, unique, then a clear idea of \u200b\u200bimplementation does not always appear in my head. Sitting at home, you can look at photos, find the right drawing that you like with something.

To start, the moose application. It is interesting in that the zipper divides it vertically into two parts. It looks no less interesting if the jacket is unbuttoned, its halves diverge. The simplest shirting fabric, red in a cage, was used. Therefore, the drawing turned out to be very New Year's, thoughts immediately arise about the northern countries, snow, Santa Claus, and gifts for Christmas and New Year!

We have red caps for sale here for the winter holidays. Many wear it on the street - they create a festive atmosphere, especially in the evenings, walking through the Christmas market. It is interesting that almost no one wears hats, but if it is cold, then a lot of people on the street can be found in such pointed hats. Why am I doing this? And to the fact that this cap is very suitable for the picture on the jacket.

Another cute animal - I think it's a squirrel (remember the cartoon?). Here, not only the actual appliqué, but partly also the embroidery, they often come together. The stencil is simple, this one can also be easily repeated on your own. The main thing is big eyes with dot-pupils!

Children's pictures for embroidery and appliqué

Now a couple of works of a slightly different nature. They buy with their deliberate simplicity and even somewhere with carelessness of execution. Please note that the fabric for the application of the fungus, bird, mouse is not even processed along the contours! It is sewn with one or two straight stitches on a typewriter with only black thread.

The technique is almost the same, but almost everything is embroidery - satin stitch or simple machine stitches. Tree, fox, bunny, squirrel - a good children's stencil. It looks elementary and at the same time very elegant.

How to make a stencil? I'll reveal a little secret. Make an image on your monitor in the scale you need. Take thin paper or white translucent tracing paper, attach it to the screen. Carefully (without pressing!) mark the silhouette of the drawing, this can be done, for example, with a felt-tip pen. Everything, the “pattern” of your future fabric appliqué, the template is ready to use.

Small and large applications with animals that can be easily repeated for your children. There is a hedgehog, a baby raccoon, a panda, a dinosaur, a giraffe peeking out of his pocket, a taxi car. If the cars are only suitable for boys, then the images of animals will also please girls. All these motifs look good if they are made using another technique - the addition of embroidery.

Another article from the series of decorating children's clothes, there are several photos with pictures of finished applications on knitted fabric. Templates can be copied to tracing paper directly from the monitor, as I described at the end of this article. All images are simple, but expressive, bright, if you wish, you can copy yourself from photographs.

We will talk about women's knitwear, decorating them with your own hands with fabric applique, there are several ready-made templates that you can download for yourself - fish, woodpecker on a tree, geisha, bamboo twigs, cherry blossoms, letters. Simple but interesting motifs with examples of their application on finished items.

We decorate the clothes of the kids, this time only the boys. Here are selected simple black and white template schemes with vehicles - cars, taxis. You can download them to your computer, and then print them, and also carefully redraw them directly from the screen onto a sheet of very thin paper with a felt-tip pen - enlarge the picture to the required size, the contours will be clearly visible through the tracing paper.

A little more about simple, but quite creative fabric applications. We use this template - a girl with a dog. You will need a contour image stencil (who knows how, can draw it himself), special paints, a little bit of scraps of different materials. Those who do not want to draw can embroider - you can see such examples by clicking on the link.

In the days of our grandmothers, girls were instilled with a love for needlework. They taught them to crochet and knit, embroider, and told them what a fabric appliqué is and how to make it. Let's consider the last type of needlework in more detail.

Fabric applique is a way of decorating clothes, interior items, creating a panel. There are two answers to the question of how to make an appliqué on fabric:

  1. Sew on.
  2. Stick on.

In the first case, all parts are sewn by hand or with a sewing machine, in the second, they are glued with special glue.

To perform applications of any level of complexity and method of attachment, a standard set of tools and materials is required.

  • It is necessary to stock up on scraps of matter of various colors, textures (beautiful flowers are obtained from denim and felt), sizes, threads that match the color of the selected patches.
  • You will need scissors of different sizes (large, small, with curved ends), a thimble, a hoop, a set of needles, pins (simple and English), diagrams.
  • Also, you can not do without cardboard or thick paper, carbon paper, pencil, or chalk for fabric.

Before starting work, prepare the fabric. The base material should be dense enough, neutral in color, so that all the colors of the composition look harmonious with it.

For panels, it is recommended to starch the background material. Thin fabrics, from which the elements of the picture will be made, must be compacted. For this, potato paste or gelatin is suitable. If you chose the first option, then the impregnated canvas is heated with an iron until completely dry. In the second variant, the gelatin-impregnated matter is preliminarily dried.

How to make a fabric appliqué

It is not difficult to make decor from fabric with your own hands. To get started, you need to decide on the pattern. To do this, you can use your own imagination and draw the desired sketch. And you can use ready-made schemes by downloading them from the Internet.

  1. The image should not stand out from the general style of the base item. The plot and color should be in harmony. Avoid an abundance of small details, this will not only complicate the work, but also give the effect of a blurry picture. Do not make applications on thin and delicate fabrics.
  2. Before printing a sketch, it is adjusted in size to the base item (jeans, shirt and other items of clothing, interior). As a rule, computer programs help to create the desired thumbnail size. After that, the images are printed in two copies: one serves as a template, the second is an example of the correct assembly of the drawing.
  3. Templates for applications are conveniently transferred to cardboard, then cardboard blanks are transferred to flaps. The direction of the threads on the appliqué elements should be the same as on the base item. If necessary, provide for seam allowances along the edges of the motifs. The sample can be transferred to the base using tracing paper to facilitate the process of assembling a complete picture.
  4. After choosing a picture, you need to choose fabrics and other materials. The flaps should be combined in color, texture. The threads are matched to the tone of the fabric. When performing applique on clothes, it is recommended to sew motifs on a sewing machine or manually. Glue is used to make panels. In this work, it is worth abandoning silicone glue, because it deforms the material.

Plot Assembly

The assembly of the composition begins with tacking ready-made motifs to the product. The allowances that were left for the seams must be carefully folded inward. It should be remembered that the edge should not be very voluminous, one must try to exclude the difference between the edge of the application and its central part. You can avoid folding the seams around the edges. To do this, all the details of the composition are cut out in pairs, then sewn "face to face", leaving a small gap in order to turn the part on the right side. After that, the hole is sewn up, the part is more voluminous. When the picture is taken, proceed to finishing sewing.

The seam should be located along the edge of the parts with an indent of 2mm. It is more convenient to make oblique stitches so that you can hide the loose threads. When hand sewing, loop, chain stitches or stitches are performed, as when embroidering with satin stitch. The outer border of the finished applique can be decorated with a cord, embroidered with beads, sequins, placing an additional emphasis on the decorative detail. If you decide to attach the decor with a sewing machine, then first the parts made must be fixed with glue. After that, the edge is stitched with a zigzag or thick seam.

Applications can be divided into two types:

  • Volumetric.
  • Flat.

Previously, the implementation of a flat picture was considered.

Volumetric application can also be performed in several ways.

  • In the first, the picture is sewn to the main product, but at the same time a layer of batting, thin foam rubber is made between them.
  • In the second option, you make a pattern of the element in two copies, then the elements are folded face to face and stitched, leaving a small pocket. Through this hole, the motif is turned inside out to the right side and filled with padding polyester. The filler layer should be small. Then the hole is sutured, and the finished motif is sewn to the base.

Volumetric images are best done for children's clothing. But it must be taken into account that the three-dimensional picture will have to be corrected after several washes, since the filler can roll.

Features of decorating thin fabrics

When decorating thin fabrics, such as guipure, silk, chiffon, on the reverse side of the appliqué, a lining is made from the fabric that is used to make the main product. The lining can be sewn in two ways:

  • "Face to face", this method has already been described.
  • Insert the lining fabric into the hoop, attach the finished composition to it with safety pins. We sew by hand with a seam for the smooth surface or with the help of a typewriter, having completed a double line, or a “roller” seam.
