Guys, today we have a very interesting work ahead of us. We will get to know you new technology, which is called decoupage. Decoupage it's a decorating technique (decorations) various items. With this technique, you can decorate dishes, furniture and other items.

Tell me, what holiday are we waiting for?

Children: New Year!

In a long fur coat, gray-haired grandfather

With a long, long beard.

To our Christmas tree in the New Year

He will come with gifts.

Guess who it is?

Children: Father Frost

Well done, of course it's Santa Claus. Every year he comes to the New Year, brings gifts and joy to children and adults. But not only Santa Claus gives gifts on New Year's Eve, but people also give gifts to each other. So today we will make a gift with our own hands, and you will choose who to give it to.

You and I will create New Year's plate in decoupage technique.

So let's start: for starters, I will give you paper napkins (if the napkins are multi-layered, then you need to stratify them so that one thin layer remains, with New Year's drawings. You need to take a napkin on which Santa Claus is depicted and gently tear it off with your hands in a circle so that only Santa Claus remains, that is, cut off everything around Santa Claus. Next, you need to put the resulting picture in the center of your cardboard plates.

After that, we take a brush, glue. We remove the picture of Santa Claus, coat the middle plates glue and place on plate our picture. Now we begin to coat Santa Claus with glue from the outside. You need to take a lot of glue, and smear gently from the middle to the edges, very gently so as not to tear the grandfather. As a result, our picture will turn out without folds and it will become, as it were, one with plate. It's like she's painted on it.

The second stage of our work is the decoration of the remaining free space on our plate. Now we need scissors and the rest of the napkins. Choose any item you like. We have Christmas trees, Christmas decorations and colorful birds. Cut out whatever you want and we'll decorate.

After all the decorations are ready. We begin to glue them in the same way as we glued Santa Claus. First we coat plate, then we apply the drawing, and very carefully, the details are small, we begin to coat with glue from above.

After all the decorations are glued, once again see if there are any wrinkles, and you're done! Well done, you did a great job with this. Now a gift for your moms, dads, grandmothers or other relatives is ready! After all, you know that the most expensive gift is a handmade gift!

AND HERE ARE OUR PLATES! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION!

Decoration of the New Year's plate for the Christmas table - decoupage master class

For example, the atmosphere on the home table. In addition to preparing all kinds of New Year's dishes, such as Olivier, as well as decorating the house with Christmas decorations, the New Year's atmosphere can also be conveyed by a set of dishes and a service. The correct design of the New Year's table is not only delicious winter dishes that we savor in a friendly company, or in a family celebration. For example, decorating a New Year's plate using decoupage technique is another opportunity to show your imagination, as well as improve the appearance of the house, raise the atmosphere for the New Year holidays. There are many techniques, but today we will try to try out only one.

Preparing a New Year's plate with your own hands

So, this plate can become both a part of the service and a visual template, as well as one of the gift ones for your friends. It requires a special approach to creativity, but also the instructions that you will have to follow. Small photo instructions will help you understand the essence of the action and very soon, one of the New Year's plates will be able to decorate your New Year's table. Without materials, it’s better not to get involved in such a thing, so you have to go to stationery stores to make a beautiful decoupage craft:

  • Let's prepare a napkin on the theme of the new year
  • Also, plates, which we will decorate
  • Manicure scissors required
  • Also, we will prepare decoupage glue, or the composition of PVA glue
  • Acrylic paint required
  • Acrylic lacquer also does not hurt
  • Prepare a sponge or sponge for dishes
  • You will need a disposable plate, plastic
  • Soft type brushes, one of the bristles - for sticky substances

Preparing drawings and decorations

First, you need to choose the appropriate napkin to cut out the pattern. For a white background of a napkin, a light background of the product should be relied upon. In the case of this option, you should not try to form the contour exactly, use an approximate design, the margins can be left. But, if the picture is located on a dark background, then you need to cut in accordance with the contours, respecting the boundaries, so that there are no noticeable bright transitions in the fragment of the picture. Next, we use a fitting pattern for a plate in order to design it in the future. It is necessary to make a composition using different fragments of the picture. Then, we make the separation of the top layer of the napkin, with which we will work. It is worth recalling that there are three layers in the napkin, the top one is what we need.

Decor

Then, we work on the reverse decoupage of the plate. All our actions in this case will be carried out on the reverse side of the product. Keep in mind that this option is only suitable for works that are made of glass. You can glue the napkin in different ways. For some, special spray options are suitable, someone uses the addition of PVA glue on a napkin, and then disperses the composition along the edges of the product. Also, you can apply a layer of glue with a brush. By the way, the brush must be immediately lowered into the water. After, we lay the picture and press it, we straighten it with the help of a sponge. Some air bubbles will form, and the napkin itself has a chance to lose its shape. Therefore, it is necessary to eliminate these elements, and even better, to align with a finger, and before that, soak it in water or glue. After fixing the napkin, you will have to eliminate errors with a needle and pressure. To speed up drying, use a hair dryer. The glue will become transparent, the napkin will take on a slender shape. If the result of the work satisfies, we continue our work. Next, you need to use the flushing of excess glue to the contour of the picture, to carry out finishing work. After, put the product to dry completely.

Coloring

We paint on the reverse side. In this case, the reverse order is needed. To do this, in order to form, say, a white background and a red edging, we first make an edging, and then a background. Acrylic paint is squeezed onto a plate. If the paint is too thick, dilute it with water. The consistency of the material is in the form of a thick mixture. Next, you need to cut off a piece of sponge, then dip it in paint and then blot the excess with paper. After, we work according to the surface treatment method. The plate can be held by hand. After, we put our craft on a stable object. Create borders for snow patterns, then cover with white acrylic. The napkin to the limits of the contour is also covered with white paint. Then, we have a version of our picture. Acrylic paint should be applied in several layers. It may not lie flat, but we need density, since this is reverse decoupage. The option of working in 3-4 layers will be the best solution. For fresh paint and its fixation, it is necessary to re-stroke and then dry with a hair dryer. With the help of blue paints we form the sky, then we run a little on the white background. Dried paint should not leak, should not mix, and will not have a translucent. The same principle allows you to form a variety of patterns in the form of ornaments, stripes. Next, we paint the back of the product using a dense layer of coloring material. We apply varnish and the product is ready!

For a long time, an interesting hobby “hand-made” has come into fashion - things made by oneself, some people have become interested in sewing clothes, others in creating crafts from plastic or designer dolls, and some of us have discovered decoupage of plates. This is a fairly fresh hobby, which has gained its popularity due to the availability of tools and the cheapness of improvised materials for work. Literally everything is used here - from napkins to eggshells, but the result is striking in originality and beauty, photos of such works inspire more and more people, and the number of devoted followers is constantly growing in the hobby. Today, many sites are being created with photo and video materials, which describe in detail how to do this simple work step by step with your own hands.

Natasha Fokhtina, the author and host of her own program about handicrafts on one of the television channels, was recognized as one of the "gurus" of the "hand-made" direction. Today we will look at several ways to make such a plate, your own unique interior decoration, based on the methods and techniques of her video tutorials.

What is decoupage of plates?

This is a technique for decorating dishes by gluing a part of a picture with a final varnish coating to it so that it is securely fixed, and literally “decoupage” is translated from French as “cut out”. The founders of the direction were German artisans of the late 15th century, who began to decorate ordinary furniture with similar pictures. In the 17th century, Europe was overwhelmed by a wave of enthusiasm for Chinese and Japanese motifs, in connection with which all segments of the population were already carried away by decoupage with their own hands, so by the 19th century it had become widespread; but this hobby came to Russia only at the beginning of this century, and gained real popularity only in our days.

The easiest for beginners will be decoupage of plates, later in the same style you can learn how to decorate furniture, bags and more. Themes can be different: New Year's landscape, flowers, still lifes, even fragments of classical paintings. Or, why not, an old photo of your beloved grandmother. The main thing is that you will make this miracle with your own hands.

What will you need

  • plate;
  • napkins - these can be special napkins for decoupage, or the most common options with any pattern;
  • picture or photo of your choice;
  • glue - acrylic or PVA;
  • scissors;
  • alcohol;
  • craquelure;
  • eggshell;
  • brushes;
  • primer;
  • acrylic paints of any two colors;
  • oil gold or other paint.

Not the whole list is needed to work. Everyone will need tools, but from napkins, photographs, craquelure or eggshells, you can choose one thing.

Decoupage of plates is divided into types:

  1. With napkins. If special napkins are used, designed specifically for decoupage, then they are stratified, separating the upper part, if ordinary analogues are used, they are not separated into layers, but glued as is. The performance technique can be found in the photo and video lessons of Fokhtina at the end of the article.
  2. With craquelure. The plate is painted with a paint of a special composition, which, when dried, cracks in texture.
  3. Eggshell. Shards of eggshell are glued to a drawing, photograph or a place around them as a frame.
  4. Photo framing. The style and technique is the same as when using napkins, just a printed photograph is taken as an image.

In addition to this method, decoupage of plates is divided into:

  • direct - an image or photo is superimposed on the front of the dish;
  • reverse decoupage of the plate - the pattern is applied to the reverse side. As a rule, it is used on transparent saucers.

One of the most popular motifs is romantic, most often combined with aging.

What is the best plate to choose:

Among the abundance of all kinds of plates, you can choose any to your taste, but not all dishes are suitable for decoupage. Many saucers come in corrugated or pimply texture, and some of them even have their own pattern, similar in style to the one we want to make ourselves. In addition, all plates differ in the material of manufacture - it can be ceramics, and glass, and porcelain, and so on. For work, we need the simplest white porcelain plate, smooth and without any images.

Direct decoupage technique with drawing:

A pattern is cut out of a napkin with scissors. If a photograph is used, then by analogy, its necessary part is taken. It can be any topic, on the eve of the New Year, New Year's stories were especially popular, but this holiday is still quite a long time. And it is also a great gift for March 8, and, of course, for the birthdays of loved ones.

  1. The plate itself needs to be degreased, for this a cotton pad is moistened with alcohol and all surfaces are wiped - front and back.
  2. After degreasing, the dishes are carefully wiped dry, otherwise, in the process of applying the image, wrinkles or bubbles may appear on it.
  3. A drawing, photo or cut-out fragments are neatly placed on the front of the plate.
  1. Correctly placed parts are covered with glue, smoothing out all the fragments with a brush.
  2. After the glue dries, the entire surface of the plate with the image is varnished.
  3. We are waiting for the varnish to dry - and the plate is ready.

This method is used to create decorative plates. If you plan not only to admire them, but also serve fruits and goodies for tea in them, then it is better to use reverse decoupage.

Do-it-yourself reverse decoupage technique:

The pattern cutting and degreasing manipulations are identical to the direct method.

The difference lies in the fact that the drawing is attached to the back of the dish, and the plate itself must be transparent, otherwise the work will not be visible and will completely lose its meaning.

  1. There is also a difference in the technique of applying glue. They do not smear the entire pattern, but only the edges, and it is better not to go on the front surface of the plate, but small flaws are allowed, most importantly, do not smear the glue much. On the photo and video materials of our site you can clearly see the style and technique of work.
  2. After the glue is completely dry, all the "blunders" can be carefully cleaned.
  3. If an opaque background is planned around the picture, then this surface is painted with acrylic paints and allowed to dry.

Ah, the word "craquelure"

Here the execution technique will be a little more complicated.

  1. The plate is degreased according to the standard.
  2. A primer is applied to the dishes with a sponge and allowed to dry.
  3. Paint the surface with brown paint, which should also dry well.
  4. PVA glue is applied over the paint, they wait for a while, but here the glue should not be completely dry, this is important.
  5. White acrylic paint is applied over the top. It should dry and peel off.
  6. They take an ordinary stationery file and put a cut-out napkin “face” down on it, fixing it with water.
  7. The file with the image is placed on a plate, then the film is pulled out sharply so that the napkin lies flat on the surface.
  8. Irregularities are removed with a brush.
  9. We paint the edges with brown paint for the effect of aging.
  10. Around the drawing itself, with a different shade of brown, draw an analogue of the shadows with your finger.
  11. We varnish in several layers until the surface becomes smooth to the touch.
