first new

At one time I was looking for reviews on the ZIL Summer Creative Laboratory, I didn’t find anything, I signed up my son at my own peril and risk. Now I will write a review, because I have experience and I hope that it will be useful to others.

The son attended the Cinema shift in the second half of August. I must say right away that this is not a city camp in the usual sense, there is no separation by age, no friendship between children, no analysis of the day, summing up, candles, master classes, creativity, no physical activity, even physical education, minutes, warm-ups, even walks, exits to the street (to the park), only a trip to a cafe for breakfast / lunch and an hour break when the children were left to themselves (as a rule, everyone was stuck on the phone).

The first week - continuous lectures, for three hours continuously, then lunch, more lectures - and home. In the second week, the children were divided in half (about 15 people each), each half had to shoot and edit a film.

Now about what was promised to me and what in fact was not.
The range of children by age was very large, from 10 to 17 years old, there was no division by age, this introduced its own negative (why did no one work with this?). 3 hours at a lecture without a break is a lot not only for children, but also for adults, there was no change in the type of activity, collective exercises, all training techniques, the children slept during the lectures and did not listen for the first week. The curator cursed and asked homework, whoever did not do it, promised to expel. Then I didn’t ask homework (why did you ask?).

I was promised that the children would be divided into groups of 5-6 people to shoot a video, but in reality they were divided into 2 groups of 15 people (of different ages), more than half of the children in the group were not involved. The curators accompanied the process very little, so one group barely met the deadline, the second did not meet the deadline at all, for some reason the children did it at first, then it turned out that everything was done wrong (where were the adults?), they redid it, etc. 10-year-old children got tired earlier, walked around and interfered with work, the older ones got angry because they did not have time and did not want to explain. Children at the age of 10 and at the age of 17 require completely different support and level of involvement, such a mixture reduces the efficiency and satisfaction from work, it is not clear why this was not obvious to the organizers (were there not enough curators in order to save money? Curators did not know how to work with groups of different ages at all?).

The children introduced themselves in a standard way at the beginning, there was no closer acquaintance and rallying, no one became friends. This is the first program after which my son had no friends left, everyone came, sat, left and left on the last day, no farewell events.

The program included those who have long been engaged in photo-film business and those who have never held a camera in their hands.
The curator from McGuffin Daria also did not bring any special enthusiasm for the theme of the shift, it was boring and uninteresting. The child planned to continue his studies at the McGuffin, watched their classes and summer trips, now he doesn’t even remember about it.

I was unrealistically sorry not only for the money, but also for the lost time, the efforts spent (because I didn’t choose another option), because before the shift we talked several times with various organizers of the summer laboratory, I, being an experienced parent of an amateur camp, I spoke all these moments, the child was waiting for this change, new experiences, new friends, but nevertheless .. I don’t know what it is - hack-work, savings, just a checkmark-pastime, whatever.

In general, if you live near ZIL, at this very moment you have nowhere to put your child, it’s not a pity to give 22 thousand, then at least he will be fed and looked after, here without any complaints.
