Dachshund Tilda - detailed master class with patterns. Funny dachshund - DIY travel pillow How to sew a dachshund from fabric

Birthday

Quite often you can meet a friendly couple walking on the street - the owner and a dachshund dressed in a funny overalls. A cute picture may encourage other dog owners to dress up their pet in an interesting costume.

Of course, at the moment there are many stores and websites where you can buy clothes for doggies, but it is not at all difficult to make your own. Anyone can create a unique creation of dog fashion, because the patterns are accessible and simple.

The Dachshund is one of the oldest dog breeds known to mankind. The short-legged hunting dog did not care about any weather conditions.

But home life spoils small dogs - dachshunds begin to freeze when leaving a warm house to go outside. Now, even in the summer, they may need light overalls to protect them from the rain.

In winter, clothing becomes a necessity: low temperatures have a bad effect on the well-being of pets. Overalls made of warm or waterproof fabric with lining will be your salvation.

You can also have several outfits “for the soul” - bows, hats, suits that will delight guests at any holiday.

The tradition of dressing dogs and thus protecting them from severe frosts came to us from the northern peoples: among the Eskimos and Samoyeds one could often see dogs walking in warm boots and wool capes. Medieval owners decorated their pets with scarves, and the lapdogs of the Marquise de Pompadour were dressed in suits made of expensive fabrics.

Modern stores are full of a variety of goods - from warm, irreplaceable blankets to glamorous dresses with rhinestones. However, there is a risk of getting carried away and shelling out a hefty sum for things that you can easily do with your own hands at home. Where does a dog's wardrobe begin?

Quick Solution

If it’s suddenly cold outside and you don’t have any suitable things for your dachshund, no problem! In 15-20 minutes you can make a warm cape even from an unnecessary sweater lying in the closet. Without regret, we cut off the sleeve from it.

We measure the distance from the neck to the dog's front paws (+5-7 cm) and make slits for the dachshund's legs. We try on new clothes on the dog, adjust the length, trim the edges of the fabric to avoid fraying - and your dog is ready for a walk.

The work may not be too neat and stylish, but it will help the dachshund avoid hypothermia, and you will improve your skills. Then the costume can be improved by tying sleeves to the front legs.

Taking measurements and developing a diagram

To create your own, the pattern must be preceded by accurate measurements of the dog's body. To create a comfortable and stylish model, you will need to take the following measurements:

  • from the root of the tail to the neck;
  • neck girth;
  • chest girth;
  • abdominal girth;
  • front paw at its widest point;
  • neck - front legs;
  • from one front paw to the other.

Based on these measurements, it is not difficult to draw a basis for future sewn or knitted work, even if you have never done this or do not consider yourself a professional.

Modeling

Take a sheet of paper made of soft fabric, the length of which will consist of the measurement of the back (from tail to neck) + 9-10 cm and the half-circumference of the chest + 5-6 cm. At a distance equal to the measurements from the neck to the front legs (+ 5-6 cm ) we make outlines for the paw line. From the fold line we count 1/2 of the distance between the front legs and make slits for them.

We try our pattern on the dog, carefully pinning the paper with pins. In wide places it will fit more tightly, and around the neck and in the abdomen - looser. If you want to sew tight-fitting clothes, make darts in the appropriate areas.

The last step is to adjust the length of future work: for comfortable walking, it is done a little less on the stomach than on the back. When modeling an insulated overall for a dachshund, sleeves and trouser legs are added separately to the markings.

Wardrobe ideas

So, what can you do with a ready-made pattern? If this is your first experience in cutting and sewing, then you should start with something easy - blankets. Not only is it the easiest piece of clothing to make, but it is also quite practical for different seasons.

For cool, rainy weather, a raincoat model is suitable, but for the winter season you will need denser and warmer fabrics with insulation.

Blanket with Velcro or buttons

It is difficult to find a more versatile and functional item than a blanket with a convenient fastener. It is easy to make, unpretentious in resources and will serve you and your dachshund well.

To sew such a model you will need:

  1. a piece of any fabric measuring 75*75 cm for the main part of the product;
  2. bias tape for edging the edges (about 3 m);
  3. 25-30 cm of velcro tape or several buttons;
  4. previously prepared universal pattern.

Using a sewing machine, the process will take you about two hours. But all the work can be done almost just as quickly by hand.

Manufacturing procedure:

  1. Place the pattern on the fabric from the wrong side and trace with a pencil or chalk.
  2. Cut along the resulting contour, leaving an allowance of about 1-2 cm
  3. Make a rectangle of fabric measuring 11*17 cm and trim the edges so that they do not fray. This is the future “collar” with Velcro.
  4. Grind down the darts if the drawing requires it.
  5. Edge the edges of the blanket with trim.
  6. Sew adhesive tape or buttons on the side and on the “collar”, which is located on the chest.

Overalls

For a jumpsuit suitable for a dachshund, the pattern is constructed according to the same pattern as the blanket, with the exception that instead of slots for the paws, it will have trouser legs.

Modeling them is quite simple - the width will be equal to the circumference of the paw, and the length will depend entirely on your desire. To make the model more practical, the bottom of the legs is gathered in an elastic band.

When trying on, all inaccuracies in sizes come to light and can be corrected without much difficulty.

Exhibition outfits

You can get ideas for inspiration at dog shows: owners try to choose overalls for dachshunds, suits and T-shirts that maximally emphasize their grace and beauty, and also do not hinder their movements in case of competitive performances. Your work may not be perfect, but it will provide invaluable experience and will certainly delight your pet.

Knitted clothes

If you are not comfortable with a needle and thread, but are great with knitting needles, then we hasten to please you - knitted clothes for dachshunds are easy to make and practical, just like those made from fabric. For this work, 200 g of any yarn of medium thickness will be useful: perhaps you have a ball lying around after knitting a scarf or sweater earlier, or you purchased a warm woolen thread especially for this case. Here are some tips for creating a stylish sweater:

Start knitting it from the neck.

  • On the back side, reduce the number of stitches to avoid the formation of folds and wrinkles.
  • The sleeve knitting technique is similar to the technique for the fingers of gloves.
  • Decorate the finished sweater with decor or add buttons.

The variety of yarn colors allows you to create not only clothes that are comfortable for your dachshund, but also a whole work of design art.

Advanced knitters can afford to give their pet a whole costume: a warm blanket or sweater and boots in case of particularly severe frosts. An evening of work will be fully repaid with doggy joy.

Rules for caring for clothes

Regardless of whether you bought a costume for your pet or made it yourself, remember that it is mainly used for walking outside, which means it gets dirty instantly.

Therefore, make sure that clothes can be changed regularly and sent to the wash, without leaving the dachshund without a walk and without forcing it to freeze naked. In pursuit of a spectacular and revealing appearance, do not forget that the primary purpose of any dog sweater is to help our little brother feel natural in any conditions - both natural and domestic.

A dog in smart clothes has long ceased to be exotic. For small dogs, clothing is not a luxury, but a necessity. Many dogs of toy breeds have imperfect thermoregulation mechanisms, so without clothes they freeze and catch colds very easily. There are usually two types of pet clothing: practical clothes for cold weather and outfits that serve a purely decorative function.

The first group includes all kinds of jackets, sweaters, and overalls. The second group includes hats and panama hats, dresses for girl dogs, summer shorts and T-shirts. It’s good when warm clothes are also beautiful. In this outfit, there is no shame in walking with your pet in the park or on the dog playground at the amateur dog breeders club. Toy terriers, dwarf spitz dogs, and dachshunds need good clothing. Due to the peculiarities of their anatomical structure (long body and short legs), dachshunds often have problems with blood circulation, so warm clothing is very important for them.

Main Features

Every housewife dreams of sewing clothes for a dachshund. . However, not everyone has time for this.. Fortunately, the Internet comes to the aid of ever-busy housewives. Now you don’t have to search for a long time in specialized stores for literature on sewing clothes for dogs. When sewing and knitting clothes for ordinary and dwarf dachshunds, keep the following in mind:

Knitting clothes for a dachshund

Knitting a sweater, fluffy jacket or warm suit for the winter for your beloved dog is quite simple. Dwarf dachshunds especially need warm clothes, because they get very cold during walks in winter. Sometimes, if it is very cold outside, or the animal has an injured paw, housewives even knit shoes for dachshunds - booties and warm socks . To knit or crochet clothes for a four-legged friend, needlewomen will need:

DIY jumpsuit

The style of overalls for a female dachshund and a male dachshund will be slightly different due to gender differences. In order to sew a jumpsuit, you first need to make patterns. It is best to use ready-made patterns. The dachshund jumpsuit consists of the following parts:

  • The upper part resembles a sleeveless blouse;
  • The lower part, which is a kind of panties with a hole for a tail;
  • Straps on which the entire structure is attached;
  • Drawstrings sewn into the waistband to adjust the jumpsuit to fit.

You can do without ties, but then if the overalls turn out to be a little looser than necessary, it will hang like a bag, making it difficult for the dog to move. Therefore, it is better to sew a drawstring with ties approximately in the middle of the overalls. During a walk, they must be carefully tied so that the dog does not get entangled in the ropes. In general, if possible, you should avoid any long ties, because the short legs of a dachshund can easily get tangled, and this is a sure way to injury.

For overalls, it is best to take thick knitted fabric. Genuine leather is also suitable, but sewing from leather is quite difficult for beginning craftswomen. In addition, to work with leather you need special, very thick sewing needles. It is not recommended to sew overalls from denim, because the dog will quickly sweat in jeans. In addition, this rough fabric rubs the delicate skin of the dachshund. If you really want to become the owner of a “denim” dog, you can use knitwear with a denim pattern. This fabric is usually used for sewing tights and leggings.

There are different patterns for dog overalls. In some models, the top and bottom parts are cut and sewn separately, while in other versions the jumpsuit is cut as one piece, and then the straps are sewn or fastened to it. The straps should not hang too loosely, otherwise they will fall off during a walk and the dog will be injured. But they should also not be made too tight, so as not to rub the skin.

Ideal option- straps with a special mechanism that regulates their length. In this case, the overalls will serve the dog for several years, because it will “grow” with the dachshund. And of course, we must not forget about the hole for the tail. It must be done immediately, while cutting the fabric. Cutting a hole for the tail of a finished jumpsuit is quite difficult, and there is a risk of damaging the fabric.

Sewing and patterns of blankets

Blanket is the appropriate “clothing” not only for donkeys, elephants and horses, but also for small dogs. A blanket must be worn after sterilization or any other surgical interventions to protect scars from infection. Also, a warm blanket will help the dog keep warm in severe frosts and give the animal a respectable appearance. It is best to make a blanket from thick fabric. Knitting enthusiasts can knit or crochet this important accessory. However, a fabric blanket is more convenient because it weighs less. Sewing blankets is carried out in the following sequence:

It’s certainly worth sewing a beautiful outfit for a dachshund. A dog in clothes is not only a beautiful, but also a healthy animal, as well as the beauty of the yard and the pride of the owner. But the main thing in clothing for animals is not beauty, but convenience. Sometimes it's better to sacrifice beauty for comfort four-legged friend. This is what true dog lovers do. If the dog can move comfortably in new clothes, it means that the owner’s efforts were not in vain when choosing a style and sitting at the sewing machine.

Such a craft would be especially appropriate for the year of the dog - useful and symbolic. Don’t be afraid of difficulties, the sewing technique is simple, even a novice seamstress can handle it.

Preparing to sew a dog

To create a scops owl dachshund, take the following materials and tools:

  • pieces of fabric of light and dark brown colors 40 cm long;
  • threads of the appropriate shade;
  • padding polyester;
  • needles and pins for sewing;
  • scissors;
  • paper and felt-tip pen.

No need to take new material, obsolete but still strong things, for example, a skirt or dress, are quite suitable.

How to sew a neck pillow with your own hands

On a piece of paper, draw an outline of the dog by hand. The dachshund pillow pattern is similar to one turned 90 degrees letter C. If you have chosen knitted fabric for sewing, then keep in mind that when stuffed with synthetic padding, the length of the product will increase.

Use scissors to cut out paper templates.

Fold a piece of light fabric in half and secure with pins. Transfer the contours of the pattern - two body blanks, two ears, two parts of the dog’s nose.

Cut out the pieces, leaving a seam allowance of no more than 1 cm.

From dark fabric, similarly make two ears, four legs and one tail. Sew the nose pieces to the body. Sew all paired parts. Make the ears two-tone. When sewing the body, do not sew up the places where the paws will be.

Stuff the pillow dog's paws tightly with padding polyester. Place them in pre-designated places on the dog’s body and sew the body together. This will leave one hole for the tail. Through this hole, turn the neck roll right side out.

Fill the travel pillow tightly with padding polyester; fill the dog's ears loosely with padding polyester.

Close the remaining hole by sewing on the dachshund's tail.

Divide the paw piece into two short legs by simply pulling it in the middle with a thread.

Determine where the ears are attached by placing them on the head. Carefully sew the ears to the pillow with the dark side facing up.

All that remains is to finalize the dachshund's face. Instead of a pencil, you can use a basting stitch. Using this stitch, draw the outline of the closed eyes of the sleeping dog. Embroider eyelids and eyelashes along the marked lines. Pull out the basting. You can add even eyebrows to the muzzle.

So the dachshund travel pillow is ready, sewn with your own hands in one day!
