Crochet blankets and bedspreads patterns with descriptions. Traditional and unusual crochet bedspread patterns

Choice of colors

We always associate a blanket with home comfort and warmth. Why not knit it yourself? Believe me, there is nothing complicated about this!

We always associate a blanket with home comfort and warmth. On a cold day, it’s so nice to cover yourself with a blanket or wrap your frozen feet with it.

A blanket can play not only its main role - to warm the owners. It can also become an integral part of the interior. A crocheted blanket, multi-colored or plain, wool or cotton, will look great in the living room or bedroom and will give your home a unique and unusual look.

Such a cozy design detail will be appropriate both in warm and cold seasons, in an apartment and, especially, in a country house or in a house in the village.

You can cover your bed in the bedroom with a blanket. It will perfectly emphasize the comfort of the room where you relax. During the day you can lie on top of a blanket with a book or take a nap, and if it’s cool, you can cover yourself with it without dismantling the bed. A blanket is sometimes used not as a bedspread, but as an addition to it.

A neatly folded handmade blanket will create a cozy atmosphere in the bedroom or living room. Knitted with contrasting threads matched to the color of the upholstery, it will look great on a sofa or deep armchair. You can choose or make sofa pillows to pair with the blanket. The blanket can also be the same color as the furniture - so it will not be conspicuous as an addition to textiles or carpet.

In addition to the fact that this way you will focus on the color spots in the design, it is also possible to hide some furniture defects if they exist. It would also be great to cover upholstered leather furniture with a beautiful blanket - it would be elegant and not so cold to sit on.

What can you knit a blanket from?

You can knit a blanket from wool, cotton and acrylic threads, or a combination of these threads.

In the latter case, the blanket will not only be warm, but also practical - after all, synthetic threads are more wear-resistant. A blanket made only from acrylic threads will last longer, it may have a richer color palette, but it will accumulate static electricity and will not warm like a natural one.

For winter, it is better to knit or purchase a wool blanket. At the same time, the looser the blanket pattern is, the more air there will be between the fibers, and the better it will warm.

For ethnic decoration of a room - bedroom or living room, blankets with bright national patterns in cheerful colors will be good. For a classic interior, an elegant, discreet blanket made of cotton or linen yarn in natural colors with a geometric pattern or relief patterns is more suitable. You can decorate a blanket with fringe, a deliberately “disheveled” edge or “tassels”.

Knitted blanket in the interior. Fashion trends 2019-2020

A knitted blanket made from square motifs is on trend today! This universal item harmonizes with different interiors, but at the initial stage of its creation you need to correctly select the design and colors.

In minimalism and modernism, a bedspread of restrained shades and a not pronounced texture is relevant. Cotton or synthetic yarn will do.

Patchwork blankets decorated with fringe and floral motifs look great in Provence, boho, and country interiors.

Classic requires luxury and grandeur. Intricate, complex patterns with the addition of silver, gold and beads - this is what a classic luxurious blanket is.

Loft implies conciseness and restraint. The blanket should be monochrome and discreet in shades.

For those who are not in the know, I inform you that in February of this year, the “Bedspread in a Year” project was launched on the blog, the goal of which was to crochet a blanket over a long period of time. The key word in this phrase is to connect, i.e. bring the matter to an end...

It’s no secret that many (and I’m no exception) sometimes accumulate a whole heap of unfinished items (unfinished products), which can be very difficult to bring to their logical conclusion. And the main reason for the accumulation of unknitted items, in my opinion, is that we simply get tired of knitting this or that thing, we get bored with it, because... The knitting process is by no means fast, and the item becomes uninteresting to us.

And so I thought, what if you plan your work so that it is not stressful to complete it and so that you don’t get bored.

So I planned...

Now I’m very happy – my plan worked! Here it is - my blanket! Perhaps some of you will find this experience useful...

How to crochet a blanket in a year - the story of my knitting

So, for the bedspread, it was decided to knit only 9 motifs per month (they are quite large), i.e. 2-3 motives per weekend...

Believe me, 2-3 motives in two days is very little...

Experienced knitters can easily crochet such a blanket in a couple of weeks...

But, since I don’t make a living in needlework, I’m in no hurry.

In addition, “against the background of knitting this large product,” completely different products will be born that will diversify my knitting...

And another important detail... I announced on the blog that I will not only be crocheting a bedspread from motifs, but will also, from time to time, report on the work done.

This ad was a good motivator. Because I gave my word to my readers - we must fulfill...

At first things were a bit difficult...

Having knitted somewhere around 18 motifs, it was a sin, I was thinking of giving up the idea of crocheting a bedspread and wanted to switch to something smaller (for example)…

But, suddenly, unexpectedly for myself, I forgot about this desire for a month and connected 9 more motives...

It turned out to be 27 - that’s a lot for a pillow, and 27 motifs - that’s almost a third of my knitted bedspread...

And immediately everything fell into place, i.e. it became clear that “there will be a veil!”

I also often laid out related motifs and admired them... imagining what beauty would turn out in the end, and this also helped in my work)))

How to knit a blanket using square motifs

It took me a lot of thread to knit this product...

And, to my shame, again I can’t say how much exactly...

The fact is that yarn is expensive these days...

Even the simplest thread, in such volumes, does not look cheap at all. Therefore, I ran to buy more yarn three times, probably, or even four...

And, in the end, I just lost count...

I can only say that for the crocheted bedspread I needed about two kilograms of “Ogonyok” yarn from the Troitskaya factory

  • Yellow – about 500 gr.
  • Orange – about 500 gr.
  • Dark brown – about 700 gr.
  • Light brown – about 300 gr.

and hook number 4

Speaking of hooks...

Durable and practical!

The knitted blanket consists of 88 square motifs with a flower in the middle, crocheted according to the pattern

You will find a detailed description of knitting this motif in the article.

In the same article, by the way, a promise was made to crochet a blanket in a year.

I also recommend that you look at the article, it describes how to hide threads during knitting. It’s better to do this right away... otherwise, the final stage of knitting the bedspread (assembling) can take a very long time...

A rectangle with sides 8*11 (motifs) is sewn from knitted motifs and tied around the perimeter with one row of single crochets (in the corner RLS + VP + RLS) and one row of connecting posts behind the back segment of the loop - I really like this technique, it gives the edge knitted product has a finished and neat appearance.

We combine motifs into a bedspread

One of the important questions seemed to be how to sew motifs for a bedspread...

Moreover, I wanted to combine the motifs in such a way that there would be no visible seams on either the front or back side of the product.

After several experiments of joining in different ways, I again settled on crocheting motifs using connecting posts.

Why? The answer is simple... Simple, fast, excellent appearance, there is a seam, but it is flat, in short, everything suits me...

How to crochet square motifs using connecting posts – Master class

Produces a flat joining seam

  1. Next, similarly as described in step 2, we attach, tie and sew the third square motif

Let me remind you that all this is done without tearing off the thread.

But the fourth motif cannot be attached in this way, so we tie it separately and sew it in according to the principle described in paragraph 3, but only two sides at once

  1. A total of 20 of these large squares were sewn. These squares can be immediately sewn into 4 strips of 5 pieces each, and then connect them and sew another strip sewn from 8 squares along the narrow side of the bedspread...

That’s the whole story about how I knitted for almost a whole year... and, most importantly, crocheted a blanket...

P.S. Friends, I really liked this experience... In short, I want to stir things up... All I have to do is choose what exactly I will knit)))

Handmade bedspread “Honeycombs” - an interesting and unusual solution for a sleeping bag or living room

Knitted items in the interior are now very popular and in great demand. They are very versatile: the use of different materials, colors and structures makes such interior details suitable for any style.

The blanket is crocheted from individual motifs in patchwork style, dense and soft to the touch, and will serve as a wonderful addition to your interior.

Crocheted bedspreads are one of these products. The interior design industry offers a huge selection of crocheted blankets, but you can knit them yourself.

An elegant bedspread is crocheted using the fillet knitting technique

A plaid with a three-dimensional pattern is obtained through skillful combinations of colors that create the effect of three-dimensional cubes located in space

Do-it-yourself knitted bedspreads have a number of advantages:

Blanket with hearts in disco style made from yarn of the brightest colors

  1. Saving. Crocheting a blanket with your own hands is cheaper than buying it.

Textured styles such as boho, Provence or country will perfectly accept a patchwork style bedspread with original floral motifs and fringe

For modern modernism or minimalism, a bedspread of restrained colors and not too pronounced texture is suitable

Design selection

A bright blanket made from the most beautiful shades of yarn with a wave pattern will create a sunny, rainbow mood

If you decide to crochet a blanket, you need to decide on its design. When choosing a bedspread design, you need to pay attention to the following points.

  1. Product functionality – why do you need a blanket? If you use it only as a decorative element, then you can choose any openwork volumetric patterns (you are limited only by your crochet skills) and synthetic, knitted yarn. Also use ribbons and beads. For a blanket that needs to provide warmth, wool or plain yarn using simpler, tighter knitting patterns is suitable. For a blanket that combines these two qualities, it is necessary to find a compromise: if it is synthetic, then only tightly knitted; if it has openwork patterns, then with fewer holes, using wool or plain yarn. Bedspreads intended for sitting should not have bulky knitting or beads. And for products that protect furniture from contamination, it is better not to use openwork patterns.

    A bright children's blanket made from denim yarn will warm a baby in a stroller or crib and will become a decoration in the nursery.

  2. Type of knitted product - do you need a blanket for a sofa, bed, chair? The size of the bedspread depends on this. Use standard sizes: double bed – 220x240 cm; small sofa 150x210 cm; chair – 130x170 cm (more sizes can be found on the Internet). Or measure the parameters of your furniture. Do not forget that the blanket should be thrown over the back (for a sofa, armchair), hang from the sides, from below (for a sofa, armchair).

    An elegant blanket with a geometric pattern made of natural threads in snow-white, azure, blue, pink, red, and wine colors

  3. Color scheme – it must match the color scheme and style of the interior. For classic, loft style, and Scandinavian interiors, it is better to use calm tones, combining no more than 2-3 compatible colors in one product. A large number of bright contrasting colors is suitable for a boho style or for a children's room.

    Bedspread “Roses in the snow” with an airy effect, which is given by grass yarn

  4. Plaid structure. A knitted blanket can be a solid fabric or consist of parts: squares, diamonds, circles of the same or different sizes.

Crocheted openwork blanket made of square motifs

The blanket, crocheted from white yarn, is designed in a natural theme and has a pattern - stylized trees

The most versatile and easiest to make is a crocheted bedspread, consisting of squares of the same size and connected to each other. Even a novice needlewoman can easily handle such a product.

A bright crocheted blanket made of colored square motifs will effectively complement any interior and become a favorite and integral element of it.

By the way, if necessary, a hand-made blanket can easily be enlarged or reduced by adding or removing a certain number of squares, respectively.

Bedspread for a single bed in warm colors - from white to dark brown

Required materials:

  • knitting threads or special knitting yarn (required). The quantity depends on the size, thread thickness, and chosen pattern;
  • ribbons, beads (optional);
  • sewing thread (optional, as you can use yarn).

Multi-colored soft yarn of the same thickness

Required tools:

  • a hook of the appropriate size (depending on the thickness of the selected material);
  • a needle with a large eye (for sewing squares, sewing on decor).

There are several different knitting methods:

  • in one piece;
  • from square motifs;
  • from triangular motifs;
  • stripes and zigzags;
  • from the center, etc.

We knit with a single fabric - this is the longest and most difficult method in our opinion. An adult blanket is knitted in a large size, for example 1.5 * 2 m, or even more. At first it will be easy for you to move from place to place with this knitting, but the larger it gets, the more difficult it will be to take your work with you on the road. What if you need to knit from different balls? In addition to the product, you will also have to carry a large supply of thread. So knitting in a single piece is acceptable if you do not plan to knit outside the home.

How much easier it is to knit with motifs. Typically, the motif for a bedspread does not exceed 10-20 cm in length/width. It is convenient to take this work with you and knit it on the road, in a clinic, on the subway, while you are waiting for a child to return from the section and on a walk. But the motto of a knitter is to knit every free minute of time. In addition, you can use leftovers from different glomeruli.

The advantages of knitting from motifs are obvious. Although there are a couple of small but significant disadvantages - the threads will have to be constantly cut off and eventually the motifs will have to be sewn into a single fabric.

As you can see, there is no perfect method for knitting a blanket.

Look for the patterns you like, buy threads for them and knit the biggest and most beautiful blanket. It will decorate your home, and for you it will become a symbol of labor and patience, because not everyone is able to crochet such a large thing - a bedspread!

I knitted a swatch using yarn I found at home. But she's a little rude. For the bedspread, I advise you to take thinner yarn, which contains acrylic. For example, Turkish Alize, then yarn consumption will be more economical.
According to my calculations, you may need about 2.5 kg of yarn approximately, maybe a little less or a little more.

What you will need:

Step-by-step description with photos

Numbers and sizes

To make this bedspread, we wove 196 elements in 14 different colors. The squares are made diagonally, so you will also need triangular pieces to align the corners.

For this 140cm x 110cm bedspread you will need 158 squares and 38 triangles. Each square is approximately 10 cm across. To connect the parts, you can use any colors of thread that you like.

Abbreviations:

  • V.p. – air loop;
  • conn. Art. – connecting stitch/single crochet;
  • RLS - single crochet,
  • Dc - double crochet.

Step 1: Tie a Square

Row 1

Make a magic (magic) ring and secure the stitch.

Row 2

2 ch, then make 2 dc in the ring. 2 ch, then 3 dc in the ring. 2 v.p. and make 3 dc 2 more times. Close the ring and connect the conn. Art. to the top v.p. two initial air loops.

Row 3

3 ch, and make 1 dc in 2 original dc stitches. Next *2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc* in 2 ch. space from row 2. Knit further around the perimeter, making a dc in each loop of the dc of the previous row. Make *2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc* in each corner with a gap. At the end, make a connection. Art. in the upper v.p. three initial air loops.

Row 4

Repeat Row 3.

Row 5

Repeat Row 3 again, but do not join the row into a circle. When you make the last stitch, trim the yarn and pull it through the loop on your hook. The total number of stitches on one side of the square should be 15.

Take your darning needle and insert it into the cut thread. Insert your hook through both loops of the first dc you made, skipping 3 ch. at the beginning of the circle.

Insert your hook back through the last stitch you made, through the back loop only.

Sew both ends of the square.

Step 2: Crochet the triangle

Row 1

Make a fairy/magic ring and secure the stitch.

Row 2

3 ch, then make 2 dc in the ring. 2 ch, then make 3 dc in the ring. Close the ring, but not too tight.

Row 3

4 ch, and turn your work. Make 2 dc in the same stitch, then make 1 dc in each dc until you reach the corner. In the corner with the hole, make *2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc*. Next, work 1 dc in each dc, plus two additional dcs in the last stitch.

Row 4

Repeat Row 3.

Row 5

Repeat Row 3, cut the yarn and use your hook to pull it through the loop. The total number of stitches on one side of your triangle should be 15.

Finally, sew both ends of the triangle using a darning needle.

Step 3: Connect Squares and Triangles

Place the triangle on top of the square, right sides facing each other.

Make a slip knot and place it on the hook. Next, from right to left, start connecting your parts using sc. Insert the hook through the back loops of both pieces to create almost invisible connections.

Once you have connected all the squares and triangles together, it is time to join the remaining open seams.

Using the same method, make a slip knot with your fingers and use a crochet hook and sc to join the remaining unknitted sections.

When you reach the intersection, work 1 ch. and continue connecting the next pair of squares.

When you connect all the sections, the back of the blanket should look something like this:

The seams should be almost invisible from the front side.

Use a darning needle to hide the remaining ends of the threads. A wonderful DIY crochet bedspread is ready!

People will admire your skill and the effort you put into creating all those squares and triangles! Because you've woven it on the diagonal, your blanket will stand out from all the others. Just don’t mention how nice it is for them to wrap themselves up with a cup of tea or coffee in their hands!

We hope you enjoyed this master class. Using the same pattern and description, you can create a crochet bedspread in a different color scheme or a different size. We'd love to see your work! Let us know below if you have any questions or comments. We wish you good luck!
