How to crochet an Easter chicken

One of the brightest holidays of Christianity is Easter. The chicken is one of the important symbols of this bright holiday, because a new life is born in the egg. Therefore, today we will crochet a chicken - it will become a wonderful holiday decoration.

I present to you 5 options - how to crochet an Easter chicken with your own hands with step-by-step photographs.

Crochet Easter chicken - how to knit it yourself

We crochet this chicken from skeins of yarn left over from previous projects, using several bright beads. The size of the beads for the eyes, beak and scallop should be selected according to the thickness of the yarn suitable for knitting an Easter toy. Read how to link here.

So, let's begin.

We pull the thread into a bead, which will become the chicken's eye.

We knit a chain from 7 chain stitches. We wrap the bead on a thread with this chain and secure it with a half-column. Now we knit 4 chain stitches, raising the knitting to the height of a double crochet stitch.

Then we knit the required number of double crochets around the bead so that a dense circle is formed, but without boxes from excess knitted elements. In this case, we got 21 double crochets. One eye is ready, we also knit the second eye of the chicken.

We tie the tails from knitting the two resulting motifs together, put a beak bead on them and fasten the tails of the threads on the wrong side.

Now, using half-columns, we connect the two halves of the head with the eyes. We begin to sew from under the beak, moving 2-3 loops down.

You need to tie the two parts in such a way that the neck of the chicken remains free.

Along the edge of the neck we knit single crochets as follows: *the first loop is one stitch, the second loop is one stitch, the third loop is two stitches*.

Repeat from * to * the required number of times. We knit the next row without any additions using single crochets.

Next, we knit the cones from 4 single crochet stitches in the following sequence: we knit two single crochet stitches in the first loop of the previous row, without combining them together, we knit two more stitches into the next loop of the previous row, also without combining them. We combine the resulting four unknitted columns with one loop.

We knit the entire row in this way.

We knit the last row like this - *4 half-columns, a chain of 3 air loops*, repeating from * to * in a circle.

Where we started to shape the body, we knit the collar in a row of single crochets: in the first loop, a single crochet plus a double crochet, in the next loop - a double crochet plus a single crochet. We repeat these two elements in a circle, shaping the neck.

We knit a tail on the back of the chicken - fasten the thread, knit a chain of 5 chain stitches, then on this chain we knit the required number of double crochets so that the tail is tight.

This is how the chicken turns out.

On the head of the chicken we make a scallop of three colored beads using thread and a hook.

The Easter chicken is ready!

It is knitted very quickly and easily, so it does not require any special knitting skills. It is enough to have basic knowledge.

For this chicken you will need:

  • beige, red, yellow yarn;
  • hook for yarn;
  • scissors;
  • padding polyester;
  • needle for sewing parts;
  • 2 black beads for eyes.

The chicken can be knitted from white yarn, or any other yarn. It is better to give preference to yarn that is not thick, but it is also undesirable to use yarn that is too thin. Good "Children's novelty" or "Yarn Art Jeans". The hook for it will fit from 1.75 to 3 mm.

We will knit the chicken from the bottom up, so we cast on a chain of the required length. It is equal to the desired length of the chicken.

In this case, a chain of 9 loops is knitted. Now we will tie it on both sides. We knit 7 sc, and in the 8th loop we will make 3 stitches at once.

On the second side we knit 1 sc to the last loop. We will tie 2 sc into it.

Let's start a new row. We will knit 1 stitch in all loops, but leave 3 loops where the part turns. We will knit 2 stitches in them. This is a loop in the center and 1 loop on each side of it.

We knit the next 6 rows, performing 1 stitch per loop. If the chain was initially longer, then it is worth knitting more rows.

But since we need the hook to be in the corner, we knit the extra loops to the corner. But you can simply break the thread at the end of the last row. Let's fill the part with padding polyester.

Now you need to stitch the edges of the part together.

If the thread is cut, then we attach it in the corner and sew it together. Use your fingers to shape the chicken. You need to push it a little in the center.

We take the red thread and attach it to the corner, which we will consider the head. Let's knit a scallop. We make 4 air stitches and knit 1 connection. a column in the place where the thread comes from. Repeat 2 more times. And every time the connection. We knit a column at the same point.

Now let's tie the beak. Therefore, we take the yellow thread. We cast on 2 loops and knit 3 sc in the first one. Sew on the beak.

Let's attach the red thread under the beak. We make 3 loops and knit the connection. column at the same point. We hide all the extra threads inside the knitting.

Sew 1 black bead in place of the eyes. You can simply embroider the eyes with black thread. To keep the chicken in shape, you can thread the needle and pass the needle into the center of the chicken's back, and then bring it out from the bottom in the center of the belly. Tighten the threads and secure.

DIY Easter chicken - master class

In this master class I will show you how to knit such a cute chicken.

Knitting a chicken will require the following materials and tools:

  • Fine wool yarn in white and red. You can also use Denim yarn in matching colors;
  • Hook No. 1;
  • Two black beads;
  • Plastic egg from a large Kinder Surprise;
  • Needle and thread;
  • Scissors.

We put 5 air loops on the hook and close the ends of the chain into a ring.

We make 3 air loops for lifting, and then we knit a row of double crochet stitches, inserting the tool into the hole of the chain ring. We make loops in such a quantity that there are no gaps between them, that is, they should fit tightly enough to each other.

We knit two such circles.

Now we apply them to each other with wrong sides, take red yarn and tie the two parts together with single crochets for about 1/3 of the entire circumference of the circle.

Next we will form the chicken scallops. To do this, we make 3 double crochets in the second loop from the hook, and then fasten part of the scallop to the row with a half-double stitch. We do the remaining two parts of the comb in the same way.

Then we knit 3 single crochets, 1 double crochet, and after that we knit 3 single crochets again.

Now we attach white yarn to the “neck” of the chicken and knit in a circle, covering parts of both circles of the head, single crochets in each loop.

The second row is knitted with double crochets, also knitting two loops into each loop of the previous row.

Periodically trying on a chicken on him, we knit his body with double crochets, making additions in the appropriate places.

As soon as the edge of the chicken’s body reaches the level where the plastic egg tapers downwards, we knit another row of double crochets without adding about 2/3 of the entire row. This is needed to make the chicken tail. That is, the untied part should be located in the back of the chicken’s head.

Then we continue to knit the same row with five single crochets to create a recess.

We knit the next row in the same way, but in this row we make several decreases so that the knitting fits tightly to the base - the plastic egg. We make decreases by knitting double crochets with one vertex.

In the next row, use a crochet hook to grab the corners of the recess that we made earlier.

We fix them with a single crochet.

We close the hole in the ponytail by knitting it with single crochets. You will get a triangle like this.

We attach red yarn and tie the edge of the tail with single crochets.

We turn the knitting and tie the tail according to the following pattern: 4 air loops, then 1 half-stitch in the third loop from the hook. Repeat until the end of the row, knitted in red.

To make the wings, we knit the first two rows in exactly the same pattern as the chicken’s head (see above).

We knit about half of the third row with single crochets, and then we make the tip of the wing in the following way: we knit 3 single crochets, then 3 double crochets, 1 double crochet, 3 double crochets, 3 single crochets. We knit the remaining loops with single crochets.

We tie the chicken wing with red yarn in single crochets.

We sew all the details to the body of the chicken. The Easter chicken is ready.

Easter is one of the brightest and most beloved holidays in Rus', which is traditionally celebrated in the circle of seven. And one of the main symbols of this spring holiday are Easter eggs, personifying the rebirth of a new life.

And the main keeper of the Easter egg will be an openwork crocheted chicken for Easter. With a description and step-by-step instructions with photos, you can easily knit it. Made with love, it will be a wonderful decoration for a festive family table and an original gift for family and friends. Moreover, a do-it-yourself chicken for Easter will symbolize family well-being and prosperity. We will tell you and show you how to crochet a chicken for Easter in our Master Class.

Crochet Easter chicken. Master Class

Materials:

  • threads “iris”, “snowflake”, etc. two colors - white, red and any other of your choice,
  • black bead with a diameter of 0.3-0.5 cm,
  • Tools:
  • hook – number 1.25 -1.5

Designations:

  • VP – air loop;
  • RLS – single crochet;
  • Dc - double crochet,
  • * * - report, repeat until the end of the row.

So, how to crochet an Easter chicken. Let's start with the head. We collect a chain of 3 VPs and close its ring. Next, we knit 5-6 rows of sc in a circle, adding one sc at a time so that we get an even disk with a diameter of 3 cm.

We knit the second part of the head in the same way.

Now we connect both halves, tying them with a single crochet, leaving a hole measuring 1.5 cm.

We begin to knit the body of the chicken around the hole in the head:

1st row – three lifting loops *1VP, 1СН in an arch from an air loop *

2nd row – three lifting loops * 1VP, 2СН in an arch from an air loop *

3rd row - three lifting loops * 1VP, 3СН in an arch from an air loop *

Row 4: Knit sc in the round to the middle of the head.

*2 dc, 3 ch, 2 dc in an air loop arch* repeat report 7 reports.

Turn the knitting over and continue with blue thread

5th row - *2 dc, 3 ch, 2 dc in an arch from an air loop* repeat the report 7 reports.

Turn the knitting over and row 5 with white thread

*3СН in an air loop arch, 1 VP *

At the same time, we do not break the blue thread and leave it with an open loop.

6th row - * 2 dc, 3 ch, 2 dc in an arch from an air loop * repeat the report of 7 reports and then continue the row of sc.

Row 7 – knit with white thread * sc, 6 ch * 13 reports and then continue to knit sc until the end of the row.

Row 7 – knit with white thread * sc, 6 ch * 13 reports and then continue to knit sc until the end of the row.

8th row - we knit with blue thread *1СБН, 6СН, 1СБН* - 7 reports and then to the end of the row of SC. We break off and fasten the blue thread on the wrong side.

The most family-friendly and brightest spring holiday is, of course, Easter. Both children and adults adore Easter cakes, krashanki, wicker baskets and clean white towels with candles. What else are we used to seeing as a symbol of Easter? Of course, chicks and hens! That is why amigurumi.com.ua offers to knit very beautiful openwork chickens. Their peculiarity is that they are not filled with padding polyester or other filler. A real or decorative egg is placed in them. So these hens and cockerels are the real keepers of Easter eggs. Presenting such a surprise to mom, grandparents or children for Easter is the best solution to the annual gift problem. Inexpensive, healthy and tasteful!

To create it you will need thin cotton and a No. 1 hook (I used Madame Tricote Almina). The wings and tail can be decorated with iris of different colors. Imagination when creating such Easter decorations is only welcome! Happy knitting!

Hen

1st row: cast on 3 ch, and in the third row from the hook we knit 16 dc. Try to make sure that the hole is not visible after knitting the loops of the first row. But at the same time, the dc should not lie on top of each other. Everything should be as neat as possible, because this is the top of our chicken. Connect a row of ss, and make sure that there are exactly 16 loops.

Rows 2-4: sc in circle. Please note that we knit only the first row with dc, then sc.

5th row: 9 increases, 7 sc. When you knit 4 increases, on the 5th, pull a small piece of thread of a different color (marker) - this way we will mark the middle of the back of the head. It will be useful to us when we knit the comb, wings and tail, because the chicken should not be crooked.

Rows 6-7: sc in circles. We finish the 7th row with ss.

8th row: 3 ch rise, 1 dc in the next loop, (1 dc, increase dc) x 2 times, 11 increase dc, (dc, increase dc) x 4 times, 1 dc. Finish this row with a ss.

Row 9: make 14 arches of 3 ch (3 ch, sc in the third loop of the previous row).

Row 10: we knit 7 motifs - we knit sc into the first arch, and 5 dc2n into the second.

Row 11: 7 motifs – on the motif of the previous row, from the middle (third) loop we knit a sc, and in the sc of the previous row – 6 dc2n. Those. at the top of the motif there is a sc, and in the hole from the sc there is a motif. This way you will get a beautiful alternation. It will add delicacy to the chicken.

Row 12: exactly the same 7 motifs on the sc of the previous row, 7 dc2n and sc on the motif of the previous row.

Trying a chicken on a standard egg. Adjust its size - if it is too small, then in the 13th row knit 7 motifs with 8 dc2n.

Row 13: repeat the pattern of row 12.

Row 14: repeat row 11.

Row 15: again 7 motifs, but now we knit 7 dc on each of the 7 dc of the previous row. We fasten the thread and hide it.

Cockerel

Row 1: cast on 3 ch, and in the third row from the hook we knit 16 dc. Connect a row of ss, and make sure that there are exactly 16 loops.

Rows 2-5: sc in circle.

6th row: 9 increases, 7 sc. When you knit 4 increases, on the 5th one, pull a small piece of thread of a different color (marker) - this way we will mark the middle of the back of the head. It will be useful to us when we knit the comb, wings and tail, because the cockerel should not be crooked.

Rows 7-9: sc in circles. We finish the 7th row with ss.

Scallop

Fold the chicken in half, following the marker you placed at the very beginning of knitting. Determine the center of the head to knit the comb evenly.

The scallop can be made in several ways. I joined a red thread to the back of the ss at the place where the scallop begins, and then ch 2, sc, ch 3, sc, ch 2. For the cockerel, the comb was made higher and thicker - ch 2, sc, ch 3, sc, ch 3, sc, ch 2.

You can knit a chain of ch equal to the length of the scallop, and knit 2-3 ch on it, in the next sc, then again 3-4 ch, again sc. And so on along the entire length. Then sew it on.

You can cut it from fabric or a piece of leather and glue it.

Tail

Again we determine the middle of the chicken.

The tail can be made of any shape, splendor and density. I made chains of ch through the side to the middle and down to the other side, joining the body with a sl st. For the hens I knitted (4 ch, sc) x 6 times, for the cockerel (5 ch, sc) x 6 times + the second tail lower - (4 ch, sc) x 4 times.

It is very important that the front side is always visible when you hold the product facing you. Therefore, when knitting chains of ch, make sure that you do not need to break the thread and start from the other side, otherwise the appearance will not be as neat as it should be.

Pattern for the chicken tail: knit in the middle of the arch - sc, hdc, dc, dc2n, dc, hdc, sc.

We tie the sc with iris (preferably in a different color).

Pattern for the cockerel's tail: in the middle of the arch - sc, hdc, 2 dc, dc2n, 2 dc, hdc, sc.

We tie the sc with iris (with one color at once, and then with the second; when knitting the second row with iris, it is better to knit a hdc with increases at the top of the pattern).

Wing

Mark out the location of the wings. It should be symmetrical.

For the chicken, we make a chain of 8 ch, joining directly to the body of the ss, unroll the knitting, make 4 mini-arches (3 ch, sc into a large arch), make a ss into the body, turn and knit a sc, hdc, 2dc, hdc, sc. We tie it with iris.

For the cockerel, we knit a chain of 10 ch, joining directly to the body of the sl st, unroll the knitting, make 4 mini-arches (3 ch, sc into a large arch), make a dc into the body, turn and knit sc, hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc. We tie the iris in 2 rows in different colors.

Design of the work: embroider the beak (with several stitches of iris or other thin thread, so that the beak is small, but quite convex), sew or embroider the eyes. After embroidering the beak of the cockerel, we make a “beard” - two long stitches, and secure them. All the threads that remain after attaching the comb, tail and wings must be firmly secured, hidden in the middle of the chicken and trimmed. We don’t stuff the head, it should keep its shape well anyway. The chicken is ready!

Reproduction of MK without permission is prohibited.

The crochet chicken, as you already understood, is exactly the product that we will assemble from large triangular motifs with an African flower in the middle. The chicken is not big, so it won’t take much time to make it.

Materials:

  • Remaining yarn of three colors for the main parts - in my case dark gray, white and gray
  • Remaining yarn for small details in red and yellow colors (literally a little)
  • Sintepon or other filler
  • Cardboard to give the product stability
  • A pair of beads for the eyes

1 row - in a sliding loop 3 VP lifting, 9 Dc, SS in the third loop of lifting loops (10)

2nd row – 3 VP lifting, Dc in the same loop from which the lifting loops were made, then 2 Dc in each loop (20)

Row 3 – 3 VP lifting, dc in the same loop from which the lifting loops were made, *dc, increase*, ** repeat until the end of the row (30)

Row 4 – 3 VP lifting, dc in the same loop from which the lifting loops were made, *2 dc, increase*, ** repeat until the end of the row (40)

Row 5 – 3 VP lifting, dc in the same loop from which the lifting loops were made, *3 dc, increase*, ** repeat until the end of the row (50)

According to the size of the circle, we need to cut a cardboard blank, which we will later push into the product so that the bottom is more even (this is not at all necessary, but it is desirable to obtain the best appearance and functionality of the product)

Now that all the main parts for the toy are connected, let's move on to the small details

First of all, we will “designate” the wings - we will tie the feathers, and we will take as a basis the same petals of an African flower.

1st row - Insert a hook, as shown in the photo below, hook a white thread and make 3 ch, then knit a dc from the same loop, ch, skip a loop, 2 dc, ch, sc in the space between the petals...
VP, 2ССН, VP, 2ССН, VP, SBN (see diagram)
2nd row – 9 DCs for each arc from 1 VP of the bottom row

Row 3 – binding. Using a dark gray thread, we tie the “petals - feathers” with single crochets, by analogy with knitting a motif, i.e. in each loop of the sc, and between the petals of the sc on the long leg (insert the hook a couple of rows below)
We knit the second wing similarly to the first, but in a mirror image. Be careful!

Crochet chicken - assembly

I get asked the question quite often: “how to sew motifs together?” Perhaps someday I will be “ripe enough” to write such material, but not now, the topic is quite large...

For now, I’ll tell you how I combined the motifs in this product.

The motifs are sewn together with connecting posts.

How to sew motifs with connecting posts

  1. You and I know that each loop has two segments - external (front) and internal (rear). The outer lobule is located closer to us, the inner one is further from us.
  2. On the motifs, the outer slices are closer to the front side of the motif, respectively, the inner ones are closer to the back (see photo below)

3. Connecting posts must be made by inserting the hook exclusively through the inner segments of the loops. If anyone suddenly forgot how to knit a connecting stitch, read
To sew motifs with connecting posts, fold the motifs with the wrong side inward, and the front side outward and forward! We sew the motifs together with connecting posts along the front side of the product.
As a result, we get a seam, but please note, it’s a soft seam...
There are no scars here!

This type of connection is perfect for connecting motifs in almost any product, in blankets, pillows, and anywhere...

We sew together the two sides of the triangular motifs in this way. Our crocheted chicken is beginning to take on the shape of the intended toy)))
The next step will be knitting the tail, comb, beak and beard

  1. The tail is knitted in the image and likeness of the feathers on the wings, stepping back a couple of rows from the edge of the motifs.

  1. Scallop - again we take the petals of an African flower as a basis, only we knit in 5dc

  1. The beak is a complete improvisation... a lush double crochet of three stitches...
  2. Beard * RLS, RLS, RLS, RLS, RLS * twice under the beak in loops opposite each other

It's time to stuff the chicken with padding polyester, insert the bottom with cardboard into the toy and connect the top piece with the bottom piece, this time using single crochets, inserting the hook immediately under both slices of the two motifs (connect from the front side of the product) There's just a little left...

Namely, designate the eyes and add feathers for elegance.
The eyes are ordinary black beads, and the feathers at the bottom are the same petals of an African flower, only from 5 dc (the hook is inserted through the post)

Souvenir for Easter - elegant crochet chicken is ready!)))

This crocheted Easter chicken can be a beautiful gift and an excellent decoration for the holiday table on Easter.

The knitting technique is quite simple, but requires constant attention, since you have to count the loops all the time. The product is knitted in the round without joining the end of the row.

How to crochet an Easter chicken

Knitting technique

Sequence of work:

1st row: make a loop, ch 2, knit 6 sc in the second (photo 1).

2nd row: knit 2 sc into each loop, you get 12 loops (photo 2).

Row 3: make 4 increases, knitting 2 sc every 2 loops, now there are 16 loops in a circle (photo 3).

Row 4: knit 96 sc in the round (photo 4).

Row 5: make 2 stitches in each stitch, making a total of 32 stitches (photo 5-1). We mark with a thread or a pin the beginning of the circular row and the position of the tail, for which we fold the resulting pipe in half; at the opposite end from the current loop there will be the position of the middle of the tail. Each half of this pipe will have 16 loops (photo 5-2).

Row 6: knit 14 sc, in the last 2 loops to the middle of the tail we knit 2 sc. This half will already have 18 loops. In the next two loops, already in the second half from the tail, we also knit 2 double crochets, and we knit the remaining 14 loops with single crochets. As a result, after 4 increases in the circle there will be 36 loops (photo 6).

Row 7: knit 14 sc, then make 2 increases in four loops to the middle of the tail, i.e. we knit a stitch, then an increase, then a stitch, an increase. We do the same on the other side of the center of the ponytail. We will already have 40 sc in the circle (photo 7). In the last column, through 2 loops, we already pull out the yellow thread to knit the next row.

Row 8: knit 40 sc in a circle (photo 8), at the end we pull the white thread into the last loop again.

Row 9: knit 12 sc with white yarn (photo 9-1), in the last eight stitches we crochet 2 sc each (photo 9-2). Likewise on the second side. There will be 28 loops on each half, for a total of 56 around the circle (photo 9-3). Let's switch to yellow.

Row 10: above the single crochets we knit single crochets, above the double crochets we knit double crochets. The number of columns also remains 56 (photo 10). Change to white.

Row 11: crochet 12 sc, and make 2 crochets in each double crochet, then 12 sc again. In the circle you will get 24 dc and 64 dc (photo 11). Let's switch to yellow.

12th row: with yellow yarn we make 12 sc, then we knit 2 in each double crochet, at the end 12 sc. There are already 128 double crochets and 24 single crochets (photo 12). Let's move on to the white thread.

Row 13: 12 sc, then repeat all double crochets *2 together, ch 1*, 12 sc (photo 13). Let's switch to yellow.

Row 14: to tighten the base of the Easter chicken’s body, we knit all single crochets 2 together. We had 12 of them from the center of the body, 6 remain (photo 14-2). Above the remaining columns we make a border with rapport * 3 ch, 1 dc * (photo 14-1, 14-3).

  1. We make the chicken's eyes, beak and comb. All this can be done with a needle and thick thread (photo 16).

As you can see, crocheting an Easter chicken is quite simple; anyone can do it if desired.

Designations: ch - air loop, dc - double crochet, dc - single crochet.

Note: to make the chicken stand, place it on an egg (photo 15), or replace it with something else.
