Knitting design on nails. Knitted shellac manicure: a cold season trend

Gift ideas

A sweater on nails looks very cute and stylish; such a voluminous design is ideal for the winter season. A knitted manicure with gel polish can be easily done at home, even with minimal experience in this field.

Gel polish technique

The knitted pattern is made with acrylic powder, then the manicure takes on an interesting “velvety” look, as in the photo. It should be noted that this design has several disadvantages:

  • Light colors tend to get dirty and rubbed off. Therefore, we recommend making a white sweater immediately before the event (if one is planned). Then the contaminated areas cannot be wiped off - this will damage the structure of the pattern;
  • With intensive wear, parts of the pattern may fall off, which disrupts the overall composition;
  • It takes a little more time to create it than for regular varnishing or applying a simple design.

There are various ideas for knitted manicure. For example, combining several pastel colors is now in trend. Let's say gray, beige and pink. This combination results in a very cute and beautiful design. You can use monogamy, i.e., work with one color.

Master class on how to make your own nail design: knitted sweater with shellac and velvet sand:

You can do it in a similar way make a stylish ombre knitted New Year's manicure. To do this you will need at least 3 colors, a sponge, pastel powder:

  1. Until the first layer of base varnish is applied, all steps are repeated from the instructions above. After the first painting, you need to dry your nails. Next, apply varnish to the sponge;
  2. Gradient manicure is beautiful because there are many options for its execution. You can make a vertical transition, horizontal and even diagonal. Many fashionistas create entire palettes on their nails. To do this, apply a dark-colored varnish to one nail, and a lighter color to each subsequent one;
  3. Afterwards the base is dried in a lamp. You need to immediately wipe the varnish with alcohol after this, because after powdering this cannot be done - the velvet layer will be removed;
  4. Consider a vertical gradient. A few drops of shellac are dripped onto cardboard or foil. Using a thin brush, paint is applied to the sponge. You need to make neat vertical stripes parallel to each other. It is important to ensure that they are wide enough to cover the entire surface of the plate;
  5. Afterwards, each nail is blotted with a sponge. Try not to press too hard, otherwise the pattern will be smeared;
  6. On a multi-colored base, a white three-dimensional pattern looks most stylish. The style can be any. We suggest you try making a braid. To do this, paint three stripes: one in the center, two on both sides. Now you need to draw zigzags between the stripes, then the same zigzags on them, but directed in the other direction;
  7. While the varnish is wet, it is sprinkled with powder or sand. All that remains is to dry it under ultraviolet rays. When the nails are completely dry, brush off any remaining sand. On other nails, you can make liquid stones or leave them completely glossy - this will create an accent on your painted fingers.

You can remove unsuccessful varnish in the same way as any other shellac. Soak the nail in acetone for 20 minutes. Moisten a sponge, cotton pad or piece of cotton wool with the solution, and wrap the failed nail in it. After this time, the gel polish will peel off and you can easily remove it with an orange stick or a metal nail file (not recommended).

How to make it with regular varnish

It is not always possible to do a knitted shellac manicure at home. This type of pattern can also be achieved with simple varnishes. Of course, it will not be as voluminous and durable as when working with gel, but it is simple and takes much less time.

Master class on how to step by step make a red moon manicure with a knitted pattern using regular varnish:

“Knitted” manicure burst into the world of nail design rapidly and won the hearts of lovers of original and “cozy” nail decoration. It looks impressive and is performed with virtually no problems.

Features of “knitted” manicure

Intertwined threads, interesting braids, zigzag lines, diamonds and double stripes are such familiar patterns that most people associate with knitted sweaters. They have also migrated to winter nail decor, which is simply called “knitted” manicure. The pattern is usually made in the same shade as the background covering. If you use gel polishes, the result is voluminous, which adds coziness to the design.

Advantages and disadvantages of this design

Advantages of a “knitted” manicure:

  • the design can be done on nails of any shape and length;
  • looks impressive with both glossy and matte finishes;
  • has a wide field for imagination, because you can not only draw different patterns, but also combine colors, create an ombre or gradient effect, use additional materials (for example, rhinestones, velvet sand, acrylic powder, and so on);
  • Can be done with either gel polish or regular polish.

The disadvantages of the “knitted” design include:

  • When using light shades of varnish, the nail plate often gets dirty, dust and dirt get under the pattern, and when you try to clean it, the pattern gets erased.
  • With prolonged wear, some mini-elements of the pattern may fall off, which spoils the overall appearance.
  • Creating a manicure takes more time than painting your nails or applying a simple design.

Step-by-step master class

How to do a “knitted” manicure with gel polish?

  1. First you need to prepare the nail plate. To do this, take baths for five to ten minutes. Then take a spatula and remove the cuticle. Then the ideal shape is given to the nails.
  2. The nail plate must be treated with a special degreaser. It not only removes excess skin, particles of dust and dirt, but also fills voids and helps achieve greater adhesion of the polish to the nail.
  3. Now it's the base's turn. It is applied not only to the entire plate, but also to the tip of the nail, as if sealing it. The nails with the base are dried in a UV lamp. Drying time depends specifically on your appliance.
  4. Select a background. You can use one color or a combination of several (for example, highlight one or two nails with a different shade, make a gradient, and so on).
  5. Dry your nails in an ultraviolet lamp.
  6. Now the most important stage is creating the pattern. There are several techniques for applying it: stripes, braids, ticks. The simplest one is the last one. To do this, a thin strip is drawn in the middle of the nail, and symmetrical checkmarks are placed on both sides of it.
  7. The quilted pattern is dried in a UV lamp.
  8. The result must be covered with a top coat: glossy or matte.

Pattern application options

Only after practice can you begin to create complex patterns on your nails. To begin with, you can make simple drawings (for example, checkmarks, which are described above) or learn how to first draw such a manicure on paper. You can also make a “knitted” pattern on a simple sheet with a thin brush, but you can use regular polishes rather than gel polishes.

Among the popular “knitted” patterns are the following:

  • A column of crosses is made in the central part of the nail. At a short distance from them, one vertical strip is drawn on both sides. Instead of crosses, you can draw checkmarks, diamonds, or simply put dots.
  • Two wavy lines that intertwine with each other.
  • As additional elements, columns of large or very small dots.
  • Columns are made from elements that resemble a zigzag, only they have smoother outlines and rounded corners.

Inspiration can also be found on your favorite sweater, just take a closer look at its pattern and copy it on your nails.

"Knitted" manicure: technique with velvet sand and acrylic powder

This design is more comfortable and has a different surface structure of the pattern. This technique is performed almost exactly the same way as a regular “knitted” manicure with gel polish. That is, at the beginning the nail plate is prepared, the base and background are applied (the first five points from the master class above). After each application of polish, nails should be dried in an ultraviolet lamp.

Now the pattern is applied. When the drawing is ready, it is sprinkled with acrylic powder or velvet sand on top. After this, the nails can be dried in a UV lamp. When the varnish is dry, remove any remaining designer material from the nails and fingers using a brush or soft brush. A top coat is not applied to designs containing powder or velvet.

"Knitted" pattern with regular varnish

A “knitted” manicure using ordinary varnishes turns out smooth, not voluminous. It is done as follows:

  1. The nail plate is prepared and polished.
  2. The nails are covered with a base layer so that the surface becomes smooth and there is good adhesion to the varnish.
  3. Background varnish is applied. Here you need to wait for it to dry.
  4. Now you can start creating the drawing. For this purpose, stock up on a thin brush. With its help you can easily create neat contours and lines. It is better to apply the pattern in several layers. This way you can achieve a semblance of volume. Before applying a new layer, you need to wait until the previous one has completely dried. To make the manicure spectacular, it is better to use varnishes in contrasting colors with the background.
  5. The design is completed by applying a top coat.

3 main types of knitted “sweater” manicure

So, the first thing you need to know is nail design. "sweater" is divided into three main types. The first of them is shown in the photo below.

Flat"sweater" manicure. This slider, which imitates knitting (that is, a sticker), or stamping— a print from a stamping plate. An at-home manicure option that doesn’t require level 80 skills. @katenokr

When the chilly autumn winds begin to blow, and after them the icy winter ones, it is vitally important to warm yourself! Cozy knitted sweaters, fluffy scarves and voluminous hats occupy a staple place in a woman's wardrobe.

The original nail design technique – knitted manicure – adds even more warmth to the image. In photos on social networks, you've probably seen beautiful nails with braids, bumps and diamonds.

This nail art, coupled with a warm wardrobe, creates an aura of comfort and coziness around you, and inclement weather recedes! Want to try?

Wool features of knitted manicure

Over the past few seasons, fashion has chosen short nails as its favorites, and knitted patterns at this length have become firmly established. If, due to your profession or the fragile structure of your nails, you do not risk growing them, then feel free to choose a patterned technique - you will be trendy in two directions at once!

Dressing your nails in a “sweater” is quite simple; even a beginner can do it. Of course, with perseverance and patience. Maybe the first time the pattern will turn out to be a little clumsy, but after several attempts you will be able to accurately copy the weave of threads from your favorite sweaters and dresses.

Three-dimensional drawings are obtained if you arm yourself with gel polishes. Acrylic powder or velvet sand gives an even greater resemblance to wool threads.

Since bright colors will be a little out of place in winter, knitted manicure is traditionally done in pastel colors, however, the nails next door can be covered with classic red - it is always in fashion. The photo below shows that any muted shade will enhance the neat work. Usually the pattern is drawn in the same color as the background, but the manicure can even be gradient. The cozy design is made more expressive by rhinestones and sparkles - these decorative elements go well with knitting.

In fairness, it is necessary to note the design shortcomings:

  1. Pastel colors, popular with this nail art, get dirty easily. Therefore, if you want to make a white braid, draw it shortly before the event where you want to amaze others with your “knitting”.
  2. The second drawback is natural - any voluminous decor runs the risk of falling off after some time. So don’t be surprised if after spring cleaning you don’t have enough “threads” on your nails.

You can also “knit a sweater” with regular varnish, but don’t expect 3D effects, and the creative process will take a very, very long time. However, if you find a stamping plate with a knitted image, then nail art will take just a couple of minutes.

And now – with varnishes and a brush at the ready – it’s time to create! You will learn how to make a knitted manicure yourself using shellac and regular nail polish.

Fluffy sweater - how to make a knitted manicure with gel polish and velvet sand

The most current and, to be honest, beautiful design is obtained if you use a wide palette of shellacs and velvet sand.

You will need:

  • Degreaser.
  • Base for gel polish.
  • Shellacs white and blue.
  • Velvet sand.
  • Thin brush.
  • Soft brush.
  • A piece of foil.
  • Pusher.
  • Finish.
  • Ultraviolet lamp.

Armed to the teeth, you can proceed to the step-by-step technique:

  1. Before knitting, take the time to prepare the plate. A crochet manicure looks better on short nails, so file them, rounding the tips. The cuticle should also be removed, because the velvety pattern will be completely ruined by untidy skin. Level the surface of the nail plate with a buff so that it is even and the adhesion to the varnish is perfect.
  2. Next comes the degreaser. A special liquid will remove nail dust, dirt, and everything that can prevent the design from serving for a long time.
  3. Paint your nails with the base, sealing the tips well, so the manicure will be durable. Dry the base layer in a lamp.
  4. A line of colored varnishes. Cover the ring and middle ones with white, the rest with blue.
  5. Since the shades are light, apply two layers, curing each one under UV rays.
  6. Apply top coat, dry and remove sticky layer.
  7. Well, now the most interesting part - knitting. Experienced craftsmen draw spectacular compositions from many elements that are indistinguishable from real knitting, but for starters, we offer you a simple pattern. Middle finger: Use a thin brush to scoop up white gel polish and run two strips down the sides of your nail, leaving a small space between them.
  8. Then draw a few check marks in the center of the nail. Place dots between the nail folds and the very first, vertical stripes.
  9. Secure it all in the lamp.
  10. To make the result more convex, it is recommended to apply another layer on top of the original design, which does not need to be dried!
  11. Ring finger: Draw two vertical stripes in the same way, this time moving a little further away from the side ridges. Place a row of dots in the center, and draw short oblique lines on the side of the nail. You will get a slightly modified pattern. Next, the instructions are the same - dry and repeat.
  12. So, two fingers already have knitting, what to do next? Scoop up some velvet sand and sprinkle generously over your creation, keeping your fingers on the foil. Apply in 2-3 layers, and then hold everything under ultraviolet light. The sand will adhere tightly to the undried shellac and you will get a “woolen braid”. The volume and effect of wool can be achieved not only with sand; acrylic powder, a special coating that gives a matte finish, or finely ground glitter will work for this. If you choose the latter, your creation will also shimmer mysteriously.
  13. Excess grains of sand are removed with a soft brush after drying the nails. And pour the sand remaining on the foil back into the jar. Saving!

This is a simple way to dress your nails in “sweaters.”

Warm ombre - a technique for performing gradient knitted nail art

Nails with transitions of shades are incredibly popular, as are clothes, including knitted ones. In the world of nail art, these trends have combined into one whole.

For the gradient you need the same tools as for the previous design, but they will also be joined by a sponge and a defender.

Procedure:

  1. In the same way, perform an edged or European manicure, work with a nail file and buff, and degrease the plate.
  2. Apply Defender to the skin of your ring and middle fingers. This is necessary so as not to scrub off traces of shellac from the skin later.
  3. Apply a base coat and cure in a lamp.
  4. Cover your nails with two layers of colored varnish, except for the ring and middle ones, and dry.
  5. The nameless and middle ones will have a blue-white gradient. To do this, make parallel stripes of blue and white varnish on the sponge. Gently touch the sponge to the nail, imprinting the gradient.
  6. Remove the defender film and dry the ombre in a UV lamp.
  7. Apply top coat, dry, remove sticky layer.
  8. After this, use a brush to paint a couple of layers of the desired pattern and sprinkle with “velvet”.

A gradient “sweater” on your nails will be a great decoration for your winter look!

How to make a knitted pigtail manicure design using simple polishes

The original knitted manicure is available not only to the happy owners of LED and UV lamps and a collection of shellacs. You can paint on the braid with good old fashioned nail polish. But immediately prepare for the fact that you will find yourself incapacitated for an impressive period of time, because ordinary varnish takes a long time to dry, and you will have to apply a lot of layers.

From words to action:

  1. Prepare your nails for decoration. Even though the varnish is the most ordinary, he will not tolerate overgrown cuticles and unkempt appearance of nails.
  2. Apply a base clear coat.
  3. Cover your nails with varnish and wait until it dries completely. If the first layer does not dry completely, the applied pattern will simply merge with it.
  4. Drawing the “pigtail”. It can be carefully painted out in a different color, and then it will be done with one layer. Or you can apply layers one after another over and over again, waiting for it to dry. In this case, the design will be voluminous.
  5. If desired, simple varnish can also be sprinkled with powder or sand, however, it will take even longer to dry.

This is how a knitted pattern is obtained using regular varnish. If you have a great desire and a lot of free time, “knit” for your pleasure!

Nail designers continue to amaze with incredible inventions. So this year the trend of the season was a knitted manicure. And fashionistas, and simply ladies who take care of themselves, liked it so much that it is still at the peak of popularity today. Decoration in the form of knitted patterns looks great on short nails, which gives a chance to be super fashionable for women who, for various reasons, cannot grow long ones.

What it is?

Knitted manicure is a varnish applied to the nail in the form of three-dimensional patterns reminiscent of wool knitting. The technique is quite complicated, but nothing is impossible - such a manicure can be done at home.

It will require gel polish, a special lamp for drying, files, base and fixer. If desired, you can use designer items in the form of acrylic pollen or velvet sand, which also corresponds to the trends of the year. Of course, you can try to make a pattern with regular varnish. But it will be more of a drawing.

Fashion trends

The choice of material, color and pattern is solely a flight of your imagination, consistent with trends. To look stylish, you can choose pastel shades, which, by the way, are most often used for knitted manicure. If you're bored with pale tones, there's nothing stopping you from applying a Scandinavian-inspired pattern using a contrasting color.

A knitted manicure in combination with your favorite knitted sweater with a voluminous pattern will look great, especially if you repeat it on your nails. Yes, and you can choose the color exactly for it.

A matte manicure in combination with a French manicure, where the smile line and free edge are drawn with contrasting varnish, is considered fashionable. Alternation of ornaments is also relevant - each nail of the same color has its own “knitted” pattern applied.

This is not a holiday manicure; it should not be done for a wedding or special event. But in everyday life - at home, at work, at a meeting with friends, it will make you look well-groomed and charming.

Knitted manicure - do it yourself

The technique requires patience and diligence. This is delicate work. You can apply the pattern to all nails, but more often they cover the middle and ring fingers. Therefore, a manicure will not take very much time.

If you switched to gel polishes a long time ago, then you probably have a drying lamp. If not, you’ll have to get one, otherwise you won’t get any fashionable coverage. Choose free time to do everything slowly. Prepare your tools and choose your gel polish, let's begin:

  1. Remove the previous coating, give your nails the desired shape and treat the cuticles.
  2. Wipe your nails with a degreasing liquid.
  3. Apply a base coat that will allow the polish to last as long as possible.
  4. Cover the nails on which the pattern will be applied with varnish and dry in a lamp. Do this twice. As a result, the double coating should dry properly.

Further execution technique is dictated by the desired end result:

Still having a hard time imagining how to do a knitted manicure? See step by step photo:

Option 1: Glossy finish

  • On surfaces painted with gel polish you need to make a three-dimensional pattern. To do this, lines - straight or wavy, dots, dashes, etc. - are applied to the nails with a thin brush. In order for the drawing to be more voluminous, after drying, you need to go through the first lines a second time and dry again.
  • The top coat is applied and dried again.
  • The sticky layer is removed and - voila - your spectacular manicure is ready.

Option 2: Matte effect

To obtain it, the pattern is applied in the same way, but covered with a special matte topcoat.

Option 3: Velvet effect

  • A glossy top coat is applied to the dried layers of gel polish and dried.
  • You need to make a knitted pattern on it, as described above.
  • Before placing your hand in the lamp, sprinkle your nail with velvet sand or acrylic powder.
  • After drying, use a brush (be sure to be soft) to remove any remaining sand or powder. It was fixed only along the lines of the pattern, and the base remained glossy and monochromatic.

If you want a matte base, you should apply a matte top underneath the pattern.

We use regular varnish

Those who for some reason cannot use gel polish should not be upset. Knitted manicure can be done with regular polish. Although gels remain the peak trend of the season, no one has canceled glossy and matte enamels. They are the most convenient for our goal - creating a knitted manicure.

It is somewhat easier to do, but it will take much more time. But you don't need expensive equipment. Of course, the result will be slightly different than when using gel - the pattern will be less convex. To achieve the desired result, you will have to make the patterns several times, and each layer must dry completely:

  • Preparing for a manicure is no different from usual.
  • The base varnish is applied.
  • Nails are covered with varnish. It is better to use thick enamel, even though it takes a very long time to dry. But only with it can you achieve maximum relief of the design. The number of lower layers is selected individually.
  • Patterns are applied to completely dry enamel. The number of applications depends on how the enamel is laid down and is adjusted during operation.
  • The dried ornament is covered with a fixative. Knitted manicure is ready.

Of course, doing a manicure with a knitted pattern at home is not always convenient. It requires both equipment and time. But, apparently, the fashion for it will not end with each subsequent year. The warmth, comfort and “homeliness” that such a nail design creates will keep it at the forefront of the most fashionable types of manicure for a long time.
