Patterns for knitting a scarf

With all the variety of ready-made knitted items on offer, there are still many fans of do-it-yourself knitting, for example. One of the simplest knitted items that even beginners can do is a scarf. It would seem easier to buy a ready-made scarf in a store. However, you may not always be satisfied with the combination of price and quality of the finished knitted product. But you can choose good and inexpensive yarn for knitting in the store. As a result, you will have a scarf that will not roll up even after repeated washings. Moreover, it is not always possible to match a ready-made scarf to the color of your clothes. And if you know how to knit, in a few evenings you will knit yourself a scarf of your favorite color, length, width and texture.

Depending on the purpose of the scarf, you can choose a knitting pattern. Scarves are often knitted with an elastic band. This pattern allows the product to be elastic and fit well around the neck. The narrower the scarf, the easier it is to wrap it around your neck and fasten your clothes. It is faster and easier to knit a scarf on thick knitting needles (for example, knitting needles No. 5-8). On average, a regular scarf will require 200 grams of yarn (2 skeins).

Knitting a scarf with a 2x2 elastic band

A scarf knitted with a 2x2 elastic band (knit 2, purl 2) looks good. The scarf knits quickly, the fabric is more elastic.

Knitting a scarf with an elastic band 1x1

The scarf can also be knitted with a 1x1 elastic band (1 knit, 1 purl). The fabric will be denser, and knitting will take longer).

Scarf knitted with 1x1 elastic. For knitting, we used lingonberry-colored merino yarn (50% merino wool, 50% acrylic), 5mm knitting needles. There were 40 stitches cast on the knitting needles. The width of the scarf is 19 cm. Yarn consumption is about 150 g.

Thick thread scarf

A scarf also knitted with a 1×1 elastic band, but only with thick threads. For knitting, milky yarn was used (25% wool, 75% acrylic), 8mm knitting needles. There were 30 stitches cast on the knitting needles. The width of the scarf is 21 cm. Yarn consumption is about 200 g.

The beginning and end of the scarf are knitted with a 1x1 elastic band in a checkerboard pattern. That is, the first six rows are knitted in the order: 1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch, etc. Next 6 rows: 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch, etc. After 6 rows we change the order again.

Scarves of various styles have become firmly established in the everyday life of adults and children. Today they not only fulfill their own direct mission, protecting us from the cold, but have also become a fashion accessory that completes the look. This applies to both adult and children's fashion. Warm and original scarves are quite simple to make, and even the most spectacular models can be knitted by a novice needlewoman with a detailed analysis of the process. Let's look at several patterns of knitting scarves for girls.

Selecting materials and tools

Yarn

The choice of yarn depends on the scarf model you like, but important conditions when making knitted items for children is the careful selection of good quality yarn - warm, natural and non-prickly. The best options for making a warm children's scarf are cashmere or merino yarn. These fibers are hygroscopic, retain heat well, do not lose their original shape, and products made from them do not irritate sensitive children's skin. As a more budget-friendly option, high-quality wool blends, for example, merino and high-volume acrylic in equal parts, are suitable. The thickness of the thread can be average and contain approximately 250-300 meters in a standard factory 100-gram skein.

Spokes

The optimal knitting needle size for yarn of this thickness is No. 2.5-3. If you are planning a narrow scarf, then double-sided stocking needles will do. For wider models, the best option would be circular knitting needles - metal or bamboo on a fishing line or cord made of various composite materials.

However, one cannot follow certain recommendations without caution, since a huge number of ideas cannot be based within a strictly limited framework. For example, warm scarves are often made from thick, high-volume yarn with knitting needles larger than size 5.

Let's start with the simplest scarf model measuring 100 * 18 cm. Universal patterns for scarves are double-sided elastic bands. They are easy to knit, but look very impressive in products due to the plasticity of the fabric and the same relief of the pattern. We knit the scarf with a French elastic band.

Scheme

The pattern for knitting a scarf on knitting needles for a girl is simple: in this pattern every two rows are repeated. The number of loops cast on should be a multiple of 4. Add 3 loops to them to maintain the symmetry of the pattern and 2 edge loops. For the scarf we will cast on 53 loops (48 + 3 + 2).

Row 1: P3, * K1, P3* (symbols * * mean repeating pattern);

Row 2: P1, * K1, P3 *, K1, P1.

By alternating these rows, you get a wonderful scarf pattern. Knit to the desired length, for example 1 m, then close the last row. The finished product made with elastic should not be subjected to aggressive heat treatment: the effect of the springy elastic will be lost.

Following modern fashion trends, you can make a scarf using shawl fabric (all knitted), but from yarn of 2 shades, for example, gray and light gray.

The presented model is knitted with thick (100 m / 100 g) yarn using knitting needles No. 5. A simple pattern, pointed ends of the product and pompoms on them are a set of details for a young fashionista. You can make a scarf in a few hours: the thickness of the yarn will significantly reduce the number of loops needed. In addition, there is no need to knit the pattern, since you start working with 3 loops, adding 2 loops in every second row. In this way, the canvas is increased to the desired width. Strips of lighter-colored yarn are included in knitting, based on your own preferences. As a rule, they are made narrow, consisting of 2 rows.

The length of such a scarf varies from 1.2 m to the desired length. Decreases at the end of knitting are made in the same way as additions at the beginning: in every 2nd row, 2 loops are knitted together along the edges. Having reduced the fabric to 3 loops, they are closed. The ends of the scarf are decorated with pom-poms made of yarn of the main color.

Video of simple scarves

Snood scarves, which have recently come into fashion, i.e., unique looped scarves, have not left anyone indifferent. Today they are confidently gaining popularity, remaining at the peak of fashion. This is truly a very cozy wardrobe item, and made from high-quality yarn, flexible and unique, it makes the look unique. In addition, the versatility of this accessory allows it to be worn by everyone without exception - men, women, teenagers, children. Let's figure out how to knit a snood for a girl 8-9 years old.

Tools and materials

The presented snood model is made of thick merino yarn (95 m/100 g) with knitting needles No. 5.5. The product is knitted like a scarf lengthwise by alternating garter and stockinette stitches. One edge of the canvas is decorated with a classic braid. After stitching the knitted fabric, the braid will effectively decorate the bottom of the model. Such a snood is a very warm product and can be used as a bolero or a cape, depending on the wishes of the master and the young customer. The density of the knitted fabric is 1.7 loops per 1 cm. Before performing the work, measure the width of the snood; subsequently it will become the height of the product.

Mating order

In the presented model, the height is 40 cm. In terms of loops - 70. There are 18 loops per braid. The main fabric is knitted, alternating 4 rows of garter knitting with 2 rows of hosiery (one row - front, the second - purl). The stitch pattern is as follows: 1 edge stitch, 50 main stitches (garter stitch), 18 braid stitches, 1 edge stitch.

The braid is made according to the scheme: after 8 rows, 12 loops are crossed (the 6 outer loops are removed onto an auxiliary knitting needle, leaving behind the work, the 6 central loops of the braid are knitted, then the loops are knitted from the additional knitting needle) either on the right or on the left.

This is how longitudinal knitting is done to the desired length. Then close the last row and carefully sew the product with a knitted seam.

The differences between a snood and a collar are insignificant. It's purely a matter of length: snoods are longer and can be wrapped around the neck several times, while cowl necks were invented as collars, often luxurious and wide, but still collars. In children's fashion, a collar is the same beautiful collar that retains heat. For example, let’s take a collar made with classic braids on a garter stitch base. The shawl base is denser and warmer. For such a product, yarn of medium thickness (250 m/100 g) and knitting needles No. 3 are suitable.

Progress

The braid is made of 12 loops. In total, 58 loops are cast on for work. The spread is like this:

1 edge, *5 faces. garter stitch stitches, 12 braid stitches* (repeat 3 times), 5 knit stitches, 1 edge stitch. Thus, the fabric consists of 3 braids, separated by 5 facial loops. The braid is made by analogy with the pattern presented above, only 8 loops are involved in the weave alternately, sometimes on the left side, sometimes on the right. Overlaps are performed in 8 rows.

Knit fabric up to 60-65 cm, focusing on the desired volumes. The last row is closed and the fabric is sewn into a circle.

Making accessories such as scarves is valuable because it does not require special skills or complex calculations, i.e., knitting any model listed in the publication is quite within the capabilities of beginning knitters. Among scarf models, scarves-kerchiefs, which are a canvas with a protruding corner on one side, are gaining popularity.

To make a simple scarf model you need 100 grams. merino yarn thickness 150 m/100 g. and knitting needles No. 4. Density: 1 cm - 1.9 loops. The fabric is made in garter stitch, i.e. all stitches are knitted.

Knitting starts from the corner. 7 stitches are cast on the knitting needles and knitted in garter stitch as follows:
1st r. (knit): 1 knit (L), 1 yarn over (H), 2 L, 1 H, 1 L (central loop, which should be marked with a marker), 1 H, 2 L, 1 H, 1 L.
2nd r.: (purl): 1 L, 1 N, 4 L, 1 L center., 4 L, 1 N, 1 L
3rd row: 1 L, 1 N, 5 L, 1 N, 1 L center, N, 5 L, N, 1 L.
4th row: 1 L, 1 N, 7 L, 1 L center, 7 L, 1 N, 1 L.

Knitting continues according to this algorithm: in the front row, 4 increases are made - on both sides of the central loop and along the edges, and in the purl row - 2 increases are made on each edge. It is necessary to carefully monitor the central loop, since the path it forms also plays a decorative role, and therefore any error will be visible on the canvas.

Having knitted 52-54 rows, the loops are closed. The scarf can be decorated with tassels, sewing one on each corner.

We offered the simplest models with simple patterns, since it is important to understand the principle of the model. You can choose any drawing.

Useful video of scarf scarf

In winter, severe frosts and cold winds give the most unpleasant sensations during walks and. To keep your baby warm, knit him a very warm scarf. Honestly, when I knitted it for my child, I realized how warm an ordinary scarf can be if you choose the right yarn and pattern for the scarf.

Knitted scarf for beginners - children's scarf

You will need:

  • knitting thread ALISE CASHMIRA - 2 skeins of gray and 1 skein of graphite color,
  • knitting needles No. 4.

The finished scarf comes in the following sizes: length 102 cm, width 18 cm. By the way, it stretches perfectly: it is a little less than one and a half times in length, and about two times in width. At the same time, it always retains its shape and does not become a “rag” or “gut”.

How to knit a scarf with knitting needles (children's scarf).

First of all, I want to say about the threads: these are natural wool threads (cashmere), which do not prick and provide excellent warmth. Of course, you can choose another option, but for some time now these have been my favorite threads for children's knitting.

So, cast on 50 stitches on the knitting needle.

Knit the auxiliary row alternately 1 knit, 1 purl until the end of the row.

The next row needs to be knitted with the main pattern. A voluminous English elastic band is perfect for a warm scarf. It's not difficult to knit.
It is enough to remember just one row visually or audibly and you will no longer need to write down the pattern for the scarf.
We knit all the front loops of the pattern - that is, we knit it as we see it, and immediately after the front one we make a yarn over.
We also remove all the purl loops from the knitting needle with a purl loop without knitting - that is, we simply transfer it from the auxiliary knitting needle to the working one, and the thread at the same time before work.
We use this principle in each row until the end of knitting.

To make a striped scarf, alternate light and dark threads as follows:

1. First, 32 rows in gray. Don’t be surprised that there are so many - visually the number of loops in height in a column will be exactly half as much.

2. Then we introduce a dark thread into the work and knit two rows of dark and light. Here again you will visually alternate one row of each color due to the specificity of the pattern. However, this gives an advantage over other scarf patterns: the threads are changed on one side, and the stripes turn out to be thin in one line and original.

3. The next stage of alternating stripes is 16 rows, first light and then dark. Here you get two thick stripes.

4. Knit 52 rows in dark color.

5. Knit the very middle of the scarf with light threads. I got it in 260 rows.

Then we close all the loops and invite our beloved child to try them on!

To be honest, I knitted this scarf in two evenings. Considering my experience as a knitter, I don’t look at the knitting needles while knitting, so I could simultaneously enjoy watching my favorite films. Now you know how to knit a scarf, so you can safely get down to business. Good luck and have fun!

Yarn "Svetlana" produced by "Semyonovskaya Yarn", 250 g / 100 m., Wool 50%, acrylic 50%. Phlox color.
Yarn consumption: 120 g.
Tools: knitting needles No. 3, knitting needle.
The horizontal knitting density of pearl knitting is Pgzh = 2 loops in 1 cm, the width of the braid is 3.5 cm.
Scarf size: width 15 cm, length 120 cm.

An elegant scarf for a girl is knitted. The scarf is double-sided. The main decorative element of this scarf is the braid in the middle against a background of pearl knitting. The highlight of the model is the finishing of the edges of the scarf with a knitted cord.

A knitted cord is made by combining (double edge stitch) and closing the row with a knitted cord of two loops.

Loop calculation

As always, you need to knit the sample with the selected patterns: and and determine. You will need to calculate the width of the braid and the horizontal knitting density of the pearl knit. We got it: braid - 3 cm (16 loops); density of pearl knitting Pgzh = 2 loops 1 cm. The finished width of the scarf is 15 cm. Thus, there are 12 cm or 24 loops per pearl knitting, 12 loops each to the right and left of the braid. We will knit the edge with double edge loops, so we will add nand the edge design is 2 loops on each side, 4 in total.

We get that you need to cast on the knitting needles 24 + 16 + 4 = 44 loops.

Sequence of work

We cast on loops to subsequently close them with a knitted cord. In this case, the starting and ending edges of the scarf will be exactly the same. Making a temporary set, leave the end of the thread 12 times longer than the width of the scarf plus 15 - 20 cm for embedding and holding the thread.

We knit 37 full repeats in length, plus 14 rows for finishing the ends.

We knit the first 4 rows as follows: 2 edge loops, 12 loops in pearl stitch, 16 loops in 2x2 rib stitch (2 knit, 2 purl), 12 loops in pearl stitch, 2 edge loops.

1, 3, 5, 7 row : * 2 knit, 2 purl, 2 knit, 2 purl, 2 knit, 2 purl, 2 knit, 2 purl *.

Row 2 and all even rows: * knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 2 *;

9th row: * remove 4 loops on the auxiliary knitting needle before work, 2 knit, 2 purl, knit the loops from the auxiliary knitting needle as they lie on the knitting needle, i.e. 2 knit, 2 purl, remove 4 loops on the auxiliary knitting needle while working, 2 knit , purl 2, knit stitches from the auxiliary needle as they lie on the needle, i.e. 2 knit, 2 purl*.

So that our children, girls and boys, do not catch colds or get sick, it’s time for us to pick up knitting needles and tie them beautiful and warm warm clothes. We will knit a stylish children's scarf with knitting needles. How to knit a children's scarf? Let's start with the simplest model for beginners.c

This knitted hood scarf is good to wear on a thin hat. Before you start knitting such a hood scarf for girls, it is advisable to measure the child’s height. The length of the hood scarf is above the knee. Figure out what length to take so that the scarf comes out just above the knee and add another 27-28 cm for 2 pockets (14 cm on each side). You also need to measure the distance from the back of the head to the beginning of the girl’s shoulder - this is the hood.

In the drawing for the master class, the pockets are included in the length of the scarf. The product is sewn along line AB. Pockets are sewn on both sides. Now about the yarn. The thickness of the yarn determines how many skeins of yarn will go into the scarf. If the yarn is as thick as in the photo, then it is a very voluminous thread, American Lion Brand yarn, 100% acrylic, 70 m/140 g, 5-5-6 skeins. Knitting needles 9 mm. Below is a master class with a different yarn.

To work you will need:

  1. Yarn (90% wool, 10% acrylic, 90 m/105 g), 400-400-500 g.
  2. Knitting needles 9 mm thick.
  3. The needle is thick.

Sizes: 110/116 (5 years), 122/128 (6-7 years), 134/140 (9-10 years).

Pattern: garter stitch (knit stitch) and rib 2 p/2. on the hood.

Knitting density: 10/10 cm - 12 loops/17 rows.

Cast on 9 mm needles. 30-32-34 p. (24-26-28 cm.)

Knit 4 rows with rib knit 2/p 2, starting from the 5th row - knit rows. We knit this way in knit stitch (garter stitch) until we knit 69-72-75 cm.

Then, continuing our knitting, we knit a hood - on the right we have a 2/2 elastic band:

1st row of hood: 4 purl. loops, knit 26-28-30.
2nd row: knit.
3rd row: facial.
Row 4: K26-28-30, purl 4.
5th row: repeat as 1st.

In this way we knit 48-52-56 cm, and then again - garter stitch 69-72-75 cm. Close all the loops, fold the children's scarf in half (shaded in the picture), sew from point A to B with a thread matching the color of the product. Sew the sides of the scarf (pockets), make a pompom and sew on it.

The yarn used in this work is Lambswool (50% wool, 50% acrylic), crocus color. For size a) you will need 5 skeins, for size b) - 6 skeins.

Knitting needles 3.5 mm thick. Knitting density: 10/10 cm equals 21 sts/31 rows.

Knitting a scarf

Using 3.5 mm knitting needles, cast on for size a) - 162 sts and for size b) - 174 sts. We knit the pattern (see the fantasy pattern diagram). Start knitting from the 1st stitch of the diagram.
