With your own hands
Topiary made of walnuts. Master Class. Making European wood

I made topiary from walnuts, using halves of shells, dried rose buds and boxwood leaves, with this set of materials the topiary turns out in a natural style. But I found an option in a decorative, more festive style. It turned out to be a beautiful tree. I am sharing a master class.

And here you can see my stuff: tree of happiness, European tree, topiary, money tree, floristic tree, coffee tree - there are many names and trees, but the technology is the same.

Topiary in decorative style.

" Such a nice tree with a round crown is called a European tree or topiary. How to make topiary that will become the highlight of your interior? Easily! You just need a little patience, a little imagination, a small amount of suitable material and a great desire to create something unusual with your own hands. So - crafts made from nuts!

What do we need?

Walnuts. You can, of course, just use nuts, but for a more interesting result you will need fruits that have dried in a green skin. There are fruits on the tree that have begun to dry out. The withered skin tightly fits the fruit and wrinkles at the same time. The nuts turn out to be mummified and very embossed.

Paper. Any - newspapers, old notebooks. The base of the round topiary crown is made from paper.

Wand. It can be a dry branch or a Chinese stick. This will be the trunk of the tree.

Pot. You can use a jar of yogurt, dessert or sour cream, in general, any container of suitable size.

Tow. It is sold in hardware and construction stores. Just a little for decoration

Corrugated paper. For foliage.

Construction gypsum. For filling the pot and securing the trunk.

Bandage. For decorating a pot.

Gold paint and acrylic brown.

Dried flowers. For crown decoration.

Glue gun. Glue the nuts to the base.

First, let's create the base of the round topiary crown. To do this, make a ball from newspapers or any other paper. Crumple the paper into a tight ball, wrap it with new layers of paper to make a ball of the desired size. As you go, wrap the ball with threads, giving it the correct shape. When the size of the ball suits you, secure the thread with glue. Now make a hole in the crown where you insert the trunk of the future topiary. Fill with PVA glue. Let dry. After that. Once the glue dries, paint the ball green - the color of the foliage.

Wrap the trunk with an even layer of tow. If there is no tow, you can use wool or thick cotton thread. Make the turns tightly one to one. You can first lubricate the barrel with glue. and then start wrapping. this way the winding will hold more firmly.

Using a glue gun, glue the nuts evenly onto the ball base. Using a brush, paint the nuts dark brown with acrylic paint. Once the paint is dry but not completely dry, apply dry gold paint powder to the nuts. The paint will fall on the convex places and you will get the effect of old gilding. Apply dry paint with your finger; it washes off easily. The nuts will turn out golden.

Our tree will need to be strengthened in a pot. To do this, dilute plaster. Add water to the plaster and stir until you obtain a homogeneous mass as thick as sour cream. Dip the bandage into the resulting mixture and wrap it around the pot (yogurt jar) from the outside, straightening the folds evenly. Hide the ends of the bandage inside the pot. Pour the rest of the plaster into the pot (a little more than half) and place the tree inside. Before the plaster sets, the tree must be secured in a vertical position. The next day the plaster will completely harden and you can move on

to decorating our topiary. Sand the plaster pot with sandpaper. Paint it gold. Dilute gold powder in varnish and cover the pot outside and inside. Let dry. Apply a coat of dark brown acrylic paint and immediately wipe it off with a piece of bandage. If the plaster surface is uneven, the paint will not rub off and the pot will look like an old vintage vessel. Glue a layer of tow inside the pot, spreading it around the trunk.

Proceed to filling the crown of the topiary. Cut out circles from corrugated paper and fold them four times, glue them into the gaps between the nuts. Use PVA or a glue gun. Add a few dried flowers to the crown and to the pot. The nut topiary is ready! "

Topiary originates from the ancient times of the Roman nobility. This word comes from the Latin "topia", which means "decorative place". The Romans were distinguished by their love of aesthetics, they were famous for their experienced masters of landscape design, “masters of topos,” as they were called then.

Topiary these days is an original composition that is an imitation of a neatly trimmed tree. An exquisite decorative item will fit perfectly into any home interior, be it a simple topiary made of paper or multi-textured compositions of feathers, flowers, coins, rhinestones.

Secrets of the tree of happiness

The floristic tree carries a very important meaning. It is a symbol of fertility, wealth and health. This amazing decoration has a beneficial effect on the energy of the house, because topiary not only attracts good luck, but also generates powerful energy of happiness.

Advice! If the interior of the house is designed in classic colors grayish tones, it can be emphasized by topiary made from ribbons in cool shades (blue, light blue). In “warm climates” where there are many sunny shades, choose darker colors for the tree.

An original DIY topiary will be a great gift for any occasion. Such a miracle can be created from paper, artificial flowers, fabric, grains, feathers, shells, pine cones, coins, beads - everything that can be found in the home of needlewomen. Topiary will be appropriate in any situation:

  • New Year. Ideal gift or decorative element for the winter holiday. A sisal topiary decorated with pine cones, small spruce legs and shiny balls will look especially original. And if you add glitter, lurex, tinsel and gold decorations, the snowy tree of happiness can be an excellent substitute for a Christmas tree.

Advice! Silver and gold go perfectly with contrasting shades (blue, green, red). Shiny elements optimally set off light, pastel colors.

  • Romance of Saint Valentine. A love tree or topiary heart, decorated in red and white colors and decorated with satin or paper roses, valentines, fluffy feathers, will be a real romantic gift.
  • A colleague's party. Give it to your colleague coffee topiary. Decorated in the colors of coffee pleasure, decorated with fragrant beans, this tree will perfectly decorate the office and fill it with a sensual aroma.
  • Mystical Halloween. For fans of the Celtic holiday, a topiary designed in the shape of a pumpkin is suitable. Decorate it with canvas, place a figurine of a witch on top, and the spirit of mysterious celebration will burst into your home.
  • Gift for a friend. For the birthday of a close friend, you can create a delicate topiary of roses. To make flowers, take ribbons, napkins, fabric or corrugated paper. Small artificial flowers are also suitable.

Advice! It is better to plant a flower tree in containers of white, light, pastel colors. Glass figured vases would also be ideal. You can write a memorable greeting on them.

  • Wedding. Romantic wedding topiary will be a real highlight among gifts for newlyweds. Decorated with satin, lace, pearl beads, sisal, a flower topiary will remind young people of a wonderful day for a long time.
  • New settlers.

Our ancestors, when laying the first log for the construction of a new hut, put a handful of grain under it so that prosperity reigned in the house. The best housewarming gift would be a modern topiary made from grains. You can take any large grains (sunflower, pumpkin, beans, peas). For decoration, use canvas, twine, and buttons.

Topiary in the interior

  • It’s not for nothing that topiary is called the “Tree of Happiness.” Advantageously located in the interior of the house, it acquires magical powers and brings good luck and fulfillment of desires:
  • Kitchen. The owner of the most important room in the house will be a coffee topiary with decorative elements made from natural materials (straw, canvas, twine). A topiary made from napkins would also fit well into the kitchen.
  • Children's room.
  • Make baby trees for your kids using funny souvenirs. For girls, create a fabulous topiary from corrugated paper, and for boys, design a tree in the shape of a soccer ball.

Bedroom. An organza topiary made in pastel colors and decorated with lace, ribbons and beads will help preserve love and fidelity for a married couple.

Living room. A bright, elegant topiary made of satin ribbons, made in the general style of the room, will create an original style for the living room.

The most powerful impact is exerted by interior trees created with your own hands. This science is not complicated, we will be happy to tell you how to make topiary.

How to create a homemade topiary with your own hands For a juicy orange tree you only need 3-4 hours. What do you need:

  • Sintepon.
  • Brown threads.
  • Gel pen refill.
  • A small pot for the base.
  • Orange beads for decoration.
  • Green corrugated paper.
  • Large Christmas tree ball made of plastic (any).
  • Wooden sticks with pointed tips.

Tools you will need are a glue gun, scissors, and a stationery knife. Manufacturing stages:

Step 1. Trunk. Let's take one stick and tie threads to it with two knots (on both sides). We tie another stick next door. We continue to knit them until the end, leaving long tails of thread. We will get some semblance of a wooden rug. We put a narrow strip of glue on it in the middle and wind the sticks into a tube. We wrap the entire structure with thread tails and secure it with a knot. For reliability, they can be glued together.

Step 2. Carefully insert the resulting trunk with the sharp edges of the sticks into the hole on the ball and place it on the glue. You can first pour cereal inside the ball to make the tree “talking”.

Step 3. Glue the blank to the bottom of the pot.

Step 4. Paint the tree trunk brown. It is better to paint the ball itself green to create additional volume for the leaves.

Step 5. Leaves. We cut the paper into small squares. Take one square and place it in the center of the rod from the handle. We crush the paper or roll it with our fingers in a circle. Apply a drop of glue to the center of the paper square and use the shaft of a pen to glue it to the ball.

  • Toothpicks.
  • Satin yellow ribbon.
  • Silk red fabric.
  • Thick branch or cardboard tube.
  • Small plastic balls in gold and red colors.
  • Ball base (you can use polystyrene foam or a floral oasis).
  • Decorative decorations (pine cones, Christmas tree decorations, beads, tinsel or sisal).
  • The tools we need are a glue gun, scissors and double-sided tape. Stages of work:

Step 1. Pot. We decorate the pot with red fabric, which we secure with tape. We lay a floral oasis or polystyrene inside.

Step 2. Trunk. In the center of the pot we fix the trunk of the future tree. If there is no branch, you can install a cardboard tube, pre-wrapped with yellow satin ribbon. We decorate the junction of the trunk with sisal or tinsel.

Step 3. The upper part of the trunk is placed on a ball of polystyrene foam or a floral oasis (we first give it the shape of a circle). We tie the attachment point with a satin ribbon.

Step 4. We glue toothpicks to the Christmas balls and place them in the base ball.

Step 5. Decor. Using toothpicks, insert pine cones, small Christmas tree decorations, toys, beads, and tinsel into the free spaces between the balls. For reliability, we glue them together.

    And this is jewelry craftsmanship

In the fall, many craftswomen like to make useful supplies: collect chestnuts, acorns, nuts, leaves, berries and twigs. All this is done so that later you can watch some interesting master class and create an autumn composition with your own hands. And why not topiary?

Chestnut topiary is made in the same way as other decorative trees. Almost any master class requires the presence of a base ball, a trunk, and a pot in which the tree is placed. Topiaries differ in the location and decor of chestnuts. You can make a natural tree when the fruits are presented in their natural form. Or you can paint the chestnuts, give them a different texture, etc.

    So, master class, stage one:

    • First, you need to make a base ball with your own hands. Today, foam blanks are increasingly used (you can purchase them at a craft store).
    • If you don’t have such a ball, take a children’s rubber ball, a tennis ball, or any round object.
    • You can make a ball with your own hands from papier-mâché, or simply crumple up newspapers and wrap them with thread. If you lubricate such a ball with glue, it will be dense.
    • The second point is placing the ball on the barrel. A trunk is virtually any stick, from a twig to a pencil. Make a small cut in the ball with scissors so that the stem fits into it.

You pour gypsum solution into the pot, and when it begins to set, you insert a tree with a ball into it. While the plaster hardens, the trunk must be supported.

The decor of the pot can be deliberately simple. It all depends on whether you decorated the chestnuts yourself. If not, then decorate the pot more naturally: wrap it with twine, and in the middle with a thin lace ribbon with a beige button in the middle.

Autumn topiary from chestnuts: step two

The master class is nearing its conclusion. A lot of things were done with your own hands, and then you need to glue the chestnuts themselves onto the base ball. It is not round chestnuts that are considered ideal for work, but rather flattened, flat ones. Protrusion at the crown is also not necessary, so glue flatter chestnuts with hot glue, starting from the top.

Gaps between chestnuts cannot be avoided, so they need to be covered with something. It is not difficult to guess that it should be something that matches the color of chestnuts. For example, tea. Yes, regular loose loose leaf tea. Another master class suggests taking not tea, but sisal in the color of chestnuts or a flowerpot.

By the way, if you still decide to stick with tea, then you can make it as a top layer on plaster. Tea is also a fragrant component of topiary, which automatically makes the tree even more attractive.

Well, what would a master class be without additional decor?

The image of a chestnut tree can be completed by:

    • Pistachio shell;
    • Small slices of dried citrus fruits;
    • Beads;
    • Coins in a flowerpot;
    • Openwork braid;
    • Corrugated paper, etc.

So-called tandems can diversify the idea of chestnut topiary. This is, for example, topiary made from acorns and chestnuts, or from chestnuts and nuts.

Topiaries made of acorns and chestnuts: placing and decorating correctly

The principle of creating a tree will be the same.

But since you decide to make a mix of acorns and chestnuts, think about how to present them more interestingly:

    • Option one - paint. Aerosol paints can be considered the most suitable in this regard. Make some chestnuts and acorns golden, and just varnish some. All that remains is to glue in the correct order, avoiding accumulations of parts of the same type in one place.
    • Option two - write it down. Painting acorns and chestnuts is, of course, a delicate matter. But today this is a real trend - do-it-yourself painting of round smooth objects, such as stones and the same chestnuts and acorns. Acrylic paints are used, dot painting is preferred, which allows for slight optical illusions.
    • Option three - creating embossed acorns and chestnuts. For example, painting acorns and chestnuts with white paint and sprinkling salt on PVA. You will get such snowy relief fruits, textured, unusual. This idea, of course, is not suitable for autumn topiary, but this New Year’s craft will turn out just right.

The use of nuts is also welcome. These could be walnuts, small pine nuts or the already familiar pistachios. They will have the same function as acorns - a mix of autumn fruits on one tree.

    Autumn topiary (video)

There are some points that one master class takes into account, but another does not offer to do. Of course, you can improve the situation with your own hands and your ideas, come up with something new and interesting.

But also take the following tips into account:

    • You can make a topiary from mixed chestnuts. Leave some, so to speak, “naturel”, others wrap with twine or twine. Then use the material for wrapping in the decoration of the pot.
    • In some places you can only glue chestnut caps.
    • The same chestnut caps can be painted golden and filled with tea leaves. And dried orange slices and cinnamon tubes will make this topiary a real appetite stimulant and the best flavoring agent.
    • You can do this: on one side of the topiary, attach a small squirrel, which should hold one chestnut or nut with its paws. By the way, you can also make a squirrel with your own hands.

A chestnut tree can be a symbolic gift, a sign of attention to a girl with brown hair. This is a subtle compliment that the brown-haired woman will definitely appreciate.

Appetite comes while eating - you just decided to create your own chestnut tree, and it is already overgrown in your mind with elegant decorative highlights, such cute “details” in the form of cones, rowan berries, beads and buttons.

    Have a nice work!
