The snowflake is very fragile and melts before it touches your palm. But thanks origami, you can admire snowflakes for a long time, if you want, all year round. Snowflakes made of paper, those created with your own hands will be a real New Year's decoration, decorate your home, and add a touch of magic. They will be exquisite Christmas tree decorations. They can also be presented as a New Year's souvenir to family and friends.

How to make a snowflake? This is probably one of the lightest figures assembled using the modular origami technique. The paper snowflake is made of triangular modules: light blue - 78, dark blue - 42, white - 150. The size of the modules is 1/32 of an A4 sheet. The first two rows of 6 white modules in each row are connected into a ring.

In the third row we double the number of modules, 12 modules in a row.

The fourth row contains 12 light blue modules.

Fifth row - we double the number of modules, 24 dark blue modules in a row.

Sixth row - alternate modules by color - 3 light blue - 1 white and so on until the end of the row. We put the white modules on with the short side outward - 24 modules in total.

Now we collect only light blue modules, 6 fragments - see photo below.

On each white module we put on 2 more modules, also with the short side out.

Let's start assembling the arches from white modules. Each arch contains 17 modules. We insert the modules in one pocket into each other. In total we collect 6 arches.

We collect rays for a snowflake: for each ray 5 light blue modules we put 3 dark blue modules on them with the short side outward. Insert each ray between the arches and the paper snowflake is ready!

You can quickly make these voluminous snowflakes with your own hands. If you use all your imagination, then even based on this one diagram you can come up with many different snowflakes

Snowflakes are amazing creations of nature. Absolutely symmetrical along six axes, like a crystal of frozen water. And never repeating forms! Let's try to cling to the genius of the Creator and make something similar out of paper.

Simple volumetric snowflake

  • Take 16 identical square pieces of thin paper. Fold them in half diagonally, horizontally and vertically, marking the fold lines.
  • Fold two corners towards the center.
  • Select one of the remaining two corners and make it the center of the snowflake. Fold the edges of the diamond from it to the middle, as shown in the photo. It turned out to be a feather, a segment of a paper snowflake.
  • You need to make 16 such feathers and fold them into a circle with your own hands, gluing them together with a drop of PVA.
  • This is the kind of three-dimensional snowflake we got without a diagram.
  • New Year's snowflakes can be made even more interesting if you use 8 large feathers and 8 small ones.

Modular origami: Snowflake “Blue Crystal”

The snowflake is made from white and blue office paper and decorated with glitter. The snowflake is quite durable and there is no need to glue the modules together.

You will need:

  • office paper blanks: blue = 42 pieces; white = 72 pieces.
  • silver or blue glitter
  • PVA glue

Preparing modules

  • Place the modules into piles: 6 blue and 6 white modules for the base and 10 white and 5 blue for the rays.
  • Set the remaining 6 white pieces aside. They will be needed when decorating the snowflake.

Assembling snowflake parts

  1. The base of a snowflake. Make an initial row of 12 modules, as for Christmas tree branches ( . Take 6 blue and 6 white modules and hang them.
  2. Snowflake rays.

Collect a snowflake beam.

Attach glitters to individual modules. The “Blue Crystal” snowflake made from modules is ready.

This snowflake is equally attractive from both sides. You can apply glitter on both the top and bottom sides.

Snowflake “Frosty pattern” from modules

The combination of white and blue modules creates a beautiful “ice pattern”. It is better to glue the rays of such a snowflake to the base, especially if you want to use the craft as a Christmas tree decoration.

You will need:

  • office paper blanks: blue = 84 pieces; white = 66 pieces.
  • silver or blue glitter
  • PVA glue

Preparing modules

  • Fold all the blanks into triangular modules.
  • Arrange the modules into piles: 6 pieces of each color for the base of the snowflake and 13 pieces of blue and 10 pieces of white for each ray.

Assembling snowflake parts

  1. The base of a snowflake. Complete the initial row of 12 modules, as for the Blue Crystal snowflake.
  2. Snowflake rays.

Collect a snowflake beam.

3. Also collect the remaining 5 rays.

Hang the rays on the base of the snowflake, as shown in photo 9.

Decorate the snowflake using glitter and PVA glue.

If you want to glue the beams to the base, coat the sharp tips of two adjacent base modules with PVA glue and hang the first beam module on them. Then glue the remaining rays in the same way.

The snowflake “Frosty pattern” made from modules is ready.

How to make a snowflake “Magic Bird”

The rays of this blue-white snowflake resemble the feathers of a fairy-tale bird. The snowflake is made without a base, so to give additional strength to the craft, it is better to glue it together when decorating.

You will need:

  • office paper blanks: blue = 36 pieces; white = 66 pieces.
  • silver or blue glitter
  • PVA glue

Preparing modules

  • Fold all the blanks into triangular modules.
  • Set aside 6 white modules in a separate pile - they will be needed when decorating the snowflake.
  • Divide the remaining modules into 6 piles.

Assembling snowflake parts


Collect the rays of a snowflake.

Before hanging the white module, apply PVA glue to the sharp tips of the blue modules to secure the connection.

  • Place two adjacent beams together and hang a connecting white module on the sharp tips of the first blue modules.
  • Connect the remaining rays of the snowflake in the same way.
  • Decorate the snowflake using glitter.

Let's start assembling the arches from white modules. Each arch consists of 17 modules. Insert the modules into each other in one pocket. Collect 6 arches in total.




Let's collect rays for a snowflake: for each ray 5 light blue modules, put on them KSN 3 dark blue modules. Insert each ray between the arches and the paper snowflake is ready!

It’s more fun to make this snowflake not alone, but with the whole family or company, since you need to make a lot of modules for it.

Necessary materials and tools: thin white paper, stationery knife or scissors, ruler, pencil, thread, beads.

1) We begin to manufacture modules. We used rectangular modules measuring 53 x 75 mm (the album sheet was divided into 16 parts). But there may be other sizes. So:


A.Fold a rectangular piece of paper in half lengthwise.


B. Bend across to mark the middle line and straighten.


B. Place the angle up. Fold the edge towards the middle.


D. Fold the other edge in the same way.


B. Turn over.


D. Fold the corners.


D. Fold the bottom pieces up.


E. Fold in half. You should have two corners on one side and two pockets on the other side. The module is ready.


This snowflake will require 102 modules.


2) We begin to collect a twig. Take two modules (long side at the bottom), insert the two near corners into the two pockets of the third module.
This is what the first two rows of a branch look like. The first row has 1 module, the second row has 2 modules.


3) Continue collecting the twig, alternating one or two modules in each row. You need to insert the corners into those pockets that are located closer to each other.
Then the outer corners will stick out freely to the sides, like needles. In the finished branch we have 6 rows of one module and 5 rows of two modules. It is necessary to make 6 such branches.


4) To connect the branches, take another module and insert it into the nearest pockets.


5) So we collect all 6 branches in order and close them into a ring.


6) The snowflake is ready. Some may prefer the reverse side.


7) If desired, thread the thread from the reverse side through the module. Decorate the thread with beads.


Now you can hang this snowflake somewhere.
If the snowflake is not very dense and falls apart when hanging, then carefully glue the joints of the modules with a small amount of PVA glue.

New Year is very soon. Of course, we all want to decorate our home beautifully. It’s especially great when the decorations are made by yourself. Today we propose to make a fairly simple snowflake using the modular origami technique, which is also called kusudama. When creating this decoration, you should be patient. You have to make 102 triangular modules, which will become the basis of our kusudama snowflake.

How to make a triangular origami module

You can choose the sheet size when making the module. For convenience, especially if you are a beginner kusudama master, take a regular landscape sheet. It must be divided into 16 parts. You should get blanks 7 by 5 cm.

We fold each rectangle lengthwise into two equal parts, marking the middle of each. The next step is to bend the corners on both sides. As shown in the first 3 pictures of the photo.

Now turn your workpiece over and bend the protruding ends of the triangle. Next, you should straighten the seat and bend two small corners on it. This is shown in the central photograph. The next step is to re-bend the protruding part of the pillar to form a triangle. Fold the resulting large triangle in half. We got modules for further crafts.

First, you need to assemble the first “ray” of our snowflake from the prepared modules. To create it, we will need 6 sections of one and 5 of two modular triangles each.

First, take our module and bend it in half. One more module is inserted into two of its pockets. In each next one there is also one short corner. We get a blank like the one in the photo below.

Important! To make the snowflake even, count the number of rows. It should be the same in each of its rays.

In total you should have 6 rays as in the photo below. They will become the basis of the snowflake. You can use paper of any thickness and color, including velvet-coated paper and cardboard.

The next step is to combine our rays into one snowflake using the modular origami technique.

Look carefully at the photo! It clearly shows how the rays are attached to each other.

To begin, take two beams and attach them to each other. For better fixation, you can use glue.

Take your time and carefully collect all the rays into one original snowflake. Your modular origami craft is ready.
