We sew a children's backpack from cotton. We sew a cute children's backpack

Other celebrations

Each of us has several pairs of old jeans that have become unusable - frayed, torn, small or out of fashion. You won’t go to work or visit in these anymore, and it’s inconvenient to work in the garden or around the house, and for some reason it’s a shame to throw them away... There’s a great idea - you can sew a lot of useful things from old jeans, for example, a stylish and comfortable backpack!

Options for an adult

We will try to select the easiest options to implement that even a beginner in sewing will be able to do. Take old jeans and tailor's scissors, and we will explain all the other subtleties in detail in the instructions.

Old jeans and sharp tailoring scissors are what you need to get started.

Backpack “Old Shreds”

A housewife who is passionate about handicrafts, in addition to old jeans, has enough scraps of other fabrics that keep piling up, and she can’t get around to throwing them away. This is the kind of backpack you can use them on.

Backpack ‘Old scraps’

You will need:

  • old ripped jeans;
  • edge trimmings of fabric of any colors and textures;
  • button;
  • cord;
  • interlining;
  • 6 pieces of eyelets;
  • metal rings for harnesses - 2 pcs;
  • sewing threads matching the color;
  • sewing needles;
  • sewing machine.

So, we will take the following as the initial dimensions for the pattern:

  • rectangle 73 X 37 cm for a backpack;
  • oval bottom 27 X 16 cm;
  • straps 100 cm long and 10 cm wide (5 cm in finished form) – 2 pcs.;
  • valve.

Backpack pattern diagram

  1. Edge scraps of fabric are sewn onto thin interlining. You will get 3 parts: one will go to the pattern of the upper part of the flap, the second will go to two straps, and the third will go to the body of the backpack.

  2. Two pieces of the same size are cut out from the legs of old jeans. They need to be stitched along one side, and on the other side a piece with stitched fabric edges must be sewn in.

    Stitched main part of the backpack

  3. The valve parts are stitched from the inside out and turned inside out. A loop is sewn onto the valve. If desired, it can be decorated with a cord.
  4. All that remains is to carefully sew in the bottom and sew on the facing. You can install eyelets in it or manually make loops into which the tightening cord will be inserted.
  5. On the back of the backpack, straps are sewn under the flap.

    Sewn straps

This is such a funny backpack that both adults and teenagers will be delighted with!

Simple, beautiful and roomy backpack

This backpack is so simple that you won't need a pattern. It is made in the form of a simple “bag”, and only a few steps need to be described in more detail.

You will need:

  • old jeans;
  • interlining;
  • fabric for lining;
  • lace;
  • belt tape.

A simple backpack option

  1. You need to cut off the excess from the jeans legs, depending on how long the backpack will be. Open the trouser legs at a step width, cut off the excess so that straight parts remain, and stitch. You will get a kind of “bag” in the form of a pipe.
  2. It is better to make the bottom oval, three-layer. To make it dense and not lose its shape, sew two layers of teak glued with non-woven fabric into the outer denim layer.
  3. The lining is made in the form of a “bag” according to the size of the backpack. Sew it from the inside out and assemble all the details.
  4. Thread a cord into the pins for the jeans belt, which will tighten the neck of the backpack.

    Thread a string through the pins to tighten the top of the backpack.

  5. Make straps from belt tape. They can be adjustable in length. To prevent the material from pressing and rubbing your shoulders, sew soft overlays from the remnants of denim.

    Belt fabric straps with sewn overlays

  6. The flap can be made smooth, or a frill made of the same denim fabric can be sewn onto it. Edge trim would look good. A button or magnet will serve as a clasp.

If the jeans used for such a backpack have many pockets, then they can be used as decoration and at the same time - places for various small things.

Video: the process of creating a backpack from old jeans

Children's option No. 1

For children of any age, it is important that their things are bright and speak about the hobbies of their little owners. A backpack is simply a necessary accessory for a child: it is comfortable, roomy, and mobile. And old jeans are perfect for using all your imagination and sewing such an attribute for your tomboy or little princess.

Fun funny backpack for a child

For such a cute backpack you will need:

  • old jeans, preferably 2 colors;
  • adhesive-based non-woven fabric;
  • plastic;
  • lining fabric;
  • sewing supplies.

Please note: the pattern of such a backpack is made from jeans of one color, a different color will be needed for finishing.

The following parts will be required:

  • oval bottom 13x22 cm;
  • two rectangles, 25x32 cm each;
  • a section for a pocket 15x15 cm from jeans of a different color;
  • two parts for straps 60×10 cm;
  • pattern for a handle;
  • valve section.

All parts must be overlaid so that the edges do not fray later. If you want the product to have a fashionable terry edging, you can do without processing the edges.

  1. It is better to start sewing parts with the handle and straps. They are sewn lengthwise from the inside out, after which they are turned inside out and ironed.
  2. A pocket is sewn to one of the two parts of the main part of the backpack. To keep it secure, reinforce it with double stitching.
  3. The plastic bottom is glued to the non-woven fabric and attached to an oval pattern. The bottom and walls are sewn together, all details are stitched.
  4. The final touch is to sew on the straps and handle. The inside is lined.

That's it, work on the backpack is finished.

Roomy model for a child

This backpack is perfect for an active child who often attends sports clubs. It is voluminous enough to fold sportswear and other small items, but at the same time it is light and does not look bulky.

Sports backpack made from old jeans

For such a backpack you will need:

  • legs of old jeans in two colors (for example, the sides are light, the front and back are dark);
  • leather for the bottom:
  • finishing fabric, such as satin;
  • clothesline to seal the edging;
  • belt fabric for straps;
  • plastic fasteners for bags and adjusters for straps;
  • appliqué or patch with your favorite cartoon character.

Prepared parts and materials

  1. Two wide rectangles are cut out of jeans - for the front and back, and two narrow, but of the same height - for the sides; an oval for the bottom and a valve are also cut out.
  2. Long, even strips for the edging are cut, and a clothesline is laid in the middle of each.
  3. The edging is basted to the seams, after which the sides, front and back are assembled “into a sleeve”. On the back you can sew a pocket for small items with Velcro.
  4. Holes for the cord are made in the upper part at the front. They can be processed manually with loops or with a special machine. The top of the “sleeve” needs to be folded, stitched and the cord inserted.

    Sew the top of the ‘sleeve’ and insert the lace

  5. The valve and bottom are sewn separately. A boot from an old boot will work well for the bottom.

    The bottom of the backpack is made from the top of an old boot

  6. All that remains is to assemble and stitch the bottom, valve and straps to the main part.

    Back of the backpack with attached straps, handle and flap

  7. Glue on the decal - and the backpack is ready!

Decorating ideas

Denim is a great versatile material. A backpack made of such fabric is original in itself, and if it is made from old jeans, which have pockets, labels, and other trim, then we can safely say: it is exclusive.

I don’t know how it is in Russia, but in Japan, in order to send a child to kindergarten for the first time, the mother needs to prepare herself for several sleepless nights. In addition to preparing the material for handicrafts and forms, you need to sew several handbags for different purposes with your own hands (it is advisable to sew them with your own hands, this is the custom. And then mothers will look appreciatively at each other’s “handmades”):

A backpack for everyday things (the child will take it to kindergarten every day): it contains a diary (yes, yes, exactly a diary, where the mother reports every day about what time the child went to bed and got up in the morning, what time he had dinner and breakfast, his well-being , who will pick up the child from kindergarten today and what time, etc.), a mug and cutlery, a swimsuit for the pool, a hand towel, a cap for walks. And also: A 35x45 cm bag for albums, paints and pencils, a bag for a change of shoes, a bag for a change of clothes for a child, a bag for a children’s mug and cutlery.

To combine, I selected several thin but dense linen fabrics of the same shade with different patterns and a plain quilted fabric for the lining.

1. Cut out the details of a children's backpack:

Details (the indicated dimensions already include seam allowances (1 cm on each side)): Burlap (front part) 41 x 32 cm - 2 pieces, Lining 34 x 32 cm - 2 pieces, Belt belts 7 x 10 cm - 2 pieces , Backpack straps - 8 x 108 cm - 2 pieces (I didn’t have enough length of fabric for the straps, so I cut out 4 pieces 54 cm in length). You will also need a strong, wide braid (3.5 cm wide) for the handle (about 15 cm).

2. Prepare the details of the patch pockets:
On the inner pocket, fold it twice and sew the top edge. On the outer pocket we will also process the top of the pocket and make beautiful embroidery. You can glue beautiful thermal applications; the choice in stores is now very large. I borrowed these cute owls for decoration from this site -

3. We adjust the pockets to the details of the backpack along the outer edge (3 sides).

⁣4. Preparing the details of the straps and belt loops:

We sew the parts folded in half along the edge along and across on one side - at a distance of 1 cm from the edge. Iron the seam allowances. Turn it right side out and iron it. I'm used to turning it out using a long, thin knitting needle.

5. We sew belt loops, folded in two, onto the burlap fabric on the left and right:

6. We begin to sew the parts into a common stocking - lengthwise: We sew the parts of the lining and the main burlap along the short sides. We iron the seams. We sew a rigid braid (the handle of our backpack) into the seam of the lining and the back of the burlap.

⁣7. Now you can sew the sides:

Leave 7 cm unstitched on each longitudinal side at the junction of the lining and the main burlap (burlap side), then press the seams and stitch the unstitched areas around the perimeter. Do not finish sewing the middle of the bottom seam near the lining yet; through it you can turn the product to the right side. Sew the corners of the product diagonally to add volume.

8. Turn the product right side out through the bottom seam of the lining that remains unsewn. Now this area can be sewn up by machine or by hand.

9. We put the lining inside the backpack so that the front part of the burlap at the top also goes inward a little (by 3.5 cm). And we sew a line along the top edge of the backpack just at a distance of 3.5 cm from the top fold.

10. We insert our straps into the drawstrings of the front and back of the backpack, thread them into the loops from below and tie them with a knot. Our backpack is ready!

Nowadays, a backpack is necessary for absolutely every inhabitant of the planet. It’s not surprising, because you need to take a lot of things for a walk, and it simply won’t fit into your purse. Children's needs are no exception, because even for an ordinary walk we often take a lot of things. Our article will help you - here you will learn how to sew a children's backpack with your own hands. Pattern and review of the necessary materials, tools - everything will be considered in as much detail as possible.

Backpack “Cat”

In order to make such a useful and original accessory for your child, you need to stock up on the following items:

  • Thick material with nice colors.
  • Fabric to be used as lining.
  • A small piece of lace.
  • Lightning.
  • Buttons and colored threads for decoration.

Take a landscape sheet of plain paper. The dimensions of the product will be as follows:

  • Width - 20 cm.
  • Length - 30 cm.

Important! Sizes may vary. It all depends on what age your child is.

Patterns

Now you need to make a pattern for the base of the backpack, the cat itself and the fish in its paws.

  • Back - one piece each of base fabric and lining fabric.
  • The front part - the situation is the same (you need to cut along the line of the fastener).
  • The upper straps are two parts, measuring 7 by 43 cm.
  • The lower straps are in two parts, however, their dimensions will be 7 by 25 cm.
  • 1 pocket measuring 17 x 13 cm.
  • Fish - any size.
  • Four legs - sizes are also determined according to your wishes.

Master class on how to do the job

You can sew a backpack for a girl with your own hands using patterns in the following way:

  • Sew the cat's paws. To do this, you need to make notches, turn them inside out, then put the padding polyester inside the “bag”, then sew or embroider the cat’s fingers.
  • Sew the straps, turning them inside out and sewing decorative seams on the sides. Rivets are attached to the edges of the straps.

Important! It is necessary to sew one edge of each strap - this is necessary so that the fabric does not fray.

  • Design a pocket. To do this, you need to bend the edges of the prepared fish and sew it to the pocket with a zigzag seam. Next, the edges of the pocket are processed with the same seam.
  • Decorate the top edge of the pocket. To do this, you need to sew prepared lace to it.
  • Embroider the cat's paws on the pocket with which he holds the fish.
  • Sew a pocket to the bottom of the front of the unfinished product, embroider the rest of the kitten's paws, not forgetting to pay special attention to the fingers.
  • Proceed to the design of the face - embroider his eyes and mustache.
  • The zipper needs to be basted between the top and bottom of the front, then stitched.
  • Sew the cat's paws prepared in advance.
  • Connect the front and back of the backpack with safety pins.
  • Sew and make notches in places where the seam is rounded.
  • To quickly finish sewing a children's bag-backpack with your own hands, you need to make a lining. To do this, you need to stitch it and leave 1 cm for the inside of the backpack pocket.
  • Turn the almost finished seal inside out and insert the lining into it, then fold it over and pin it to the zipper inside.
  • Hand sew it to the clasp using a blind stitch.
  • Next, you need to make 3 loops on the upper straps, and sew two decorative buttons on the lower straps.

The work is done.

Backpack for a boy with a car

Before you start sewing such an accessory for your son, you need to come up with a detailed sketch that will take into account his and your wishes.

The process of making a backpack for a boy with your own hands is as follows:

  • Making a paper pattern. Measure your child's back and estimate on paper. Let's consider an option where the bottom is rounded and the top tapers (there may also be darts on it).
  • Fold the fabric pattern down and trace the previously obtained pattern.
  • Trace and cut out the workpiece, leaving 1 cm for allowances.
  • Sew on all the desired decorative elements.
  • Compact with dublerin - this is necessary so that the product takes on a careless appearance.
  • Sew the darts.

Make 2 rectangles measuring 7 by 4.5 cm. Fold in half with the pattern inward, sew along the edge, then turn out and iron. As a result, you will get 2 straps in order to secure the straps of a children’s backpack with your own hands for a boy.

  • Start sewing the two main parts of the backpack - measure the identical distance from the top of the bag to the strap and pin it with safety pins. It is necessary to connect both parts so that the darts are one continuous piece, then make the seams.

Important! Everything needs to be sewn together with the straps.

  • It is imperative to process the top of the backpack with an overlock or zigzag stitch.
  • Fold and baste the top.
  • Cut out rectangles measuring 25 by 7 cm (2 pieces), and trim their edges.
  • Fold in half, right side up, and trim the bottom.
  • Baste and then sew the strips to the almost finished accessory.
  • To complete the work, all that remains is to attach the harnesses. Their length is calculated based on your child’s height, width - 5-6 cm.
  • Sew the rectangles along the edge, turn them inside out, and iron.
  • Push the edges of the harness inside and stitch along the edge.
  • Thread the finished straps in a circle, then tie the ends into knots.

A children's backpack for a boy from 2 years old is ready.

Denim backpack for girls

Accessories made from denim are very original and practical, and children's backpacks are no exception. It is also worth noting that a hand-sewn backpack will always be original and unique.

You can sew such an accessory by following the algorithm suggested below:

  • Prepare the two bottom pieces of denim pants.
  • Level their top.
  • Open the trouser legs and smooth them out.
  • Align the resulting fabrics so that the seam is in the center. The excess must be cut off so that the width is 35 cm and the length is 32 cm.
  • Take finishing fabric and threads that will match this fabric.
  • Decorate the front of the accessory with decorative stitches if desired.
  • Connect the two fabrics with the right sides facing inward, leaving a hole to pull the cord through.

Important! For the handles of an almost sewn children's backpack for a girl, it is better to take a thick cord 4 m long (the color depends on the design of the accessory).

  • Take the finishing fabric and cut out strips 14 by 37 cm. Tuck the edges, stitch, fold the strips in half.
  • Sew the finishing material to the top of the accessory.
  • Insert the cord.
  • Secure the cord at the bottom of the backpack, thread it through the hole, and secure it from the inside out.

The backpack is ready!

Backpack “Nyusha”

This section will describe in detail how to sew a children's toy backpack.

For further work you need to stock up on the following materials:

  • Fleece is white and three tones of pink.
  • Calico.
  • A piece of any black material.
  • Foamed polyethylene is necessary for the accessory to keep its shape (such material can be found in construction stores).
  • Two-meter belt tape.
  • Belt adjusters - 2 pieces.
  • Lock.
  • Holofiber - needed to stuff arms and legs.
  • Sharp scissors.
  • Threads that match the color.
  • Sewing machine.

In order to sew a children's backpack for a girl, you must perform the following steps:

  • Cut out the arms, legs and face of the cartoon character, print it on a printer.
  • Draw a circle with a diameter of 25 cm, make two pieces from the lightest shade of pink fleece, leaving 1 cm for allowances.
  • Cut the same circles from polyethylene and calico.
  • Start making the details of Nyusha’s face. The eyes are best made from white fleece, the eyelids and hair from dark pink, and the nose and hearts from a medium shade. There is no need to leave allowances.

Important! It is better to draw all the details with chalk first - this is necessary to ensure that all the details are located evenly.

  • Cut out pupils from a piece of black fabric.
  • Connect circles from all materials.

Important! You can put a padding polyester between the fleece and polyethylene to make Nyusha’s eyes and nose three-dimensional.

  • Sew the two parts of the backpack on the right.
  • Sew a muzzle to Nyusha. All details are sewn on with a zigzag - it’s better to start with the eyes, then continue with the nose and hearts.

Important! When sewing on eyelids and hair, it is better to use dark pink threads and black threads for the pupils.

  • Using zigzag stitches, embroider glitter on the pupils, mouth, eyelashes and nostrils so that the pattern on the sewn children's backpack for the girl is better visible.
  • Cut a strip 54 by 6 cm from three materials, where the fleece is light pink. Leave allowances of 1 cm.
  • Connect the strips together and sew them along the edge using a sewing machine. If desired, you can cut out the continuation of the hearts and sew them with a zigzag seam.
  • Make two strips 26 by 2.5 cm from the darkest shade of fleece, as well as polyethylene and calico, leaving seam allowances.
  • Sew them together along the edge.
  • Sew the lock to the stitched strips.
  • Cut out Nyusha's legs, arms, ears and pigtail, then sew them and turn them inside out.
  • Stuff the character's arms and legs using holofiber.
  • Sew these parts to the backpack.
  • From this article, you learned many ways to please yourself and your child by giving him an interesting gift. Be creative and enjoy your work so that the result pleases you!

According to the author. My niece is 4 years old. And, like any young lady, she wants to change her image depending on the situation and mood. She has handbags, but no backpack for going to sports dances. Well, we decided to make a backpack with voluminous decor. Moreover, each element is an independent brooch :) Therefore, when she wants, she pins it on a backpack, and if her mood changes, then on a scarf or hat.

Backpack dimensions (WxHxD): 18x25x13 cm.

And here is the process itself!

Materials and tools:

  • main fabric (faux suede and wool fabric are used in the master class);
  • lining fabric (cotton);
  • thin adhesive dublerin/non-woven fabric;
  • hard or bulk adhesive interlining;
  • felt for the bottom;
  • lightning;
  • four half rings for straps;
  • belt tape.

For decoration:

  • felt;
  • brooch base.

1. Preparation of tissues. Cut.

Print or translate the pattern for the outer wall of the backpack (when removing the pattern, check the scale of the 1cmx1cm square). From the main fabric and the lining fabric, cut out two pieces each according to the pattern. Glue the parts made from the main fabric on the wrong side with voluminous or rigid interlining. Cover the lining fabric parts with thin interlining. Mark the midpoints of the sides on all

From the main and lining fabric, cut out one piece each for the bottom with side parts measuring 15 cm x 54 cm.

And two fastening pieces each from the main and lining fabrics measuring 7.5 cm x 32 cm. On the strips, make marks in the middle of the long sides.

For the outer open pocket of the backpack, cut out one piece each from the main and lining fabric (the pattern for the pocket is the shaded area on the first pattern). Glue the main fabric piece with double tape and make a mark in the middle of the bottom side of the pocket.

For the inner pocket, make a pattern yourself of any shape. You can make a square pocket, an oval pocket like mine, or with a zipper.

2. Pockets.

Place the outer pocket pieces right sides together and stitch along the long top edge. Turn out the part. Fold along the seam and press.

Fold the inner pocket pieces right sides together and stitch along the perimeter, leaving room to turn them inside out. Turn the part inside out and iron it.

3. Donyshko.

Cut out a felt bottom measuring 20 cm x 14 cm. Fold the felt and main fabric piece and quilt. For convenience, you can glue the felt to the main fabric using adhesive web.

Mark the middle of the sides of the bottom.

4. Internal pocket.

Place the pocket in the center of the lining piece, pin it together and sew it on.

5. Lining.

Iron each part of the strip along the long side 0.5 cm inward. This will be needed later for assembling the backpack with lining and stitching along the zipper.

Place the plank parts side by side, ironed side inward, and stitch the bottom part on both sides. Important - the distance between the slats should be 1cm.

Turn the part inside out and iron it.

Assembling the inside of the backpack. Using pins, pin the parts together, aligning the marks of the middle of the sides. Make small notches in semicircular areas. Stitch around the entire perimeter.

6. Straps.

From a plain fabric, cut out two pieces measuring 12x6 cm (since the diameter of the half rings is 1.5 cm). Fold each piece in half, matching the long sides of the pieces, and iron. Iron the long sides of each piece towards the center.

Sew along the long sides. Fold the piece in half with the short side and thread two half rings into each. To prevent the rings from dangling, secure them with a stitch.

From the main fabric, cut out two main outer parts of the straps measuring 30x5 cm and two inner parts of the straps measuring 30x5 cm.

Using an iron, glue the outer parts of the straps from the wrong side with thin adhesive interlining. From the front side along the short side, sew the parts with half rings.

Place the outer and inner main parts of the straps with right sides facing each other, pin and stitch all sides except the free short side (for turning). Turn the straps inside out, iron and stitch along the edge.

For the second part of the straps (the one that will adjust the length of the strap), you will need two pieces of belt tape 15 cm long. Pass these parts of the straps through the half rings.

To make the handle, take a piece of belt tape 20 cm long.

7. The outer part of the backpack.

By analogy with point 5, make a zipper from the main fabric. Place the strips over the zipper and stitch the zipper using a zipper foot. Press the seams. On the front side, stitch along the zipper on both sides.

Now stitch the fastener to the bottom. Turn the seams inside out and press them.

Pin a handle folded in half to the upper cut of the back wall strictly in the center and the straps close to it with the inside facing the wall. Stitch over the handle and straps.
