Italian weave gold bracelet. Italian chain weaving

For a wedding

It is no secret that Italian weaving is now very popular among young people and is increasingly becoming fashionable. Making such a chain is generally quite simple and does not require any special professional skills. Today, there are a large number of devices and mechanical machines that can also produce Italian style jewelry.

Key Features

“Italian” weaving is a set of chains or bracelets made using a special technique. Such products have always been very reliable, durable, and also fit a large number of outfits and even combined with others. Also, the “Italian” weave is a pretty good alternative to the other “Bismarck” weave.

Thanks to their originality and design, such chains and bracelets are suitable for almost any type of women's clothing. The chain in Italian weaving plays a very important role and is a distinctive feature. Such jewelry is quite massive, in addition, you can easily decorate it with pendants and all kinds of pendants!

There are several reasons for the uniqueness of the “Italian” weave:

  1. A product made using this technique can be used both to wear every day and to wear on holidays.
  2. “Italian” weaves made of special Italian gold are very durable. The strength factor is achieved due to the specific interlacing of links in the chain and bracelets.
  3. The “Italian” weaving design is truly unique, it cannot be confused with anything else, which arouses great interest among most girls.

What does it look like

The Italian design, in which you can see echoes of Venice, fascinates almost anyone who has ever seen this weaving in person. A distinctive feature is the complete absence of deformation of the chain, and special metals only strengthen it. As a rule, “Italian” weaving is made of gold, silver or brass. There are also cases of combining these metals in order to give the product a more unique look.

As for the structure, any chain consists of several links, which makes the product itself quite durable, heavy, and also expensive. Jewelers, as a rule, use 585-carat gold or special silver to make this jewelry. Brass is also used among the metals. However, in this case, the cost of such a chain or bracelet will be several times lower. This is an ideal option for those who really like this type of Italian weaving, but do not want to pay a huge amount for precious metals.

Not only women, but also men are interested in decoration, and for good reason. Due to their massiveness, such products will look great on a man. In addition, when ordering jewelry, you can choose or specify the desired length of the chain.

To weave “Italian”, craftsmen use a special wire, without which it is simply impossible to make a decoration. When choosing a manufacturer, it is worth considering that this technique is performed both with mechanical devices and manually. Among the advantages of handmade work are greater originality and authorship of the manufacturer, but the cost of such work will also be slightly higher.

In this article we will look at weaving the Italian chain step by step. This weaving has other names, for example: “Royal”, “Kaiser”, “Python”, “Italy”, “Italian” and many other options. This weaving has gained its popularity quite recently. The main qualities of Italian chain weaving are ease of manufacture, product strength, durability and beautiful appearance. “Italian” creates serious competition for the well-known “Bismarck”. From my experience, I can say that people are already fed up with Bismarck, everyone wants something unusual, new, not like everyone else. And if “Bismarck” is present in almost everyone, then “Python” is not often seen, so its popularity is gaining momentum every day. Let’s proceed directly to the process of weaving the Italian chain.

Necessary tool for making a chain

To weave this chain we will need a standard set of tools, which should be in every jewelry workshop. This includes: pliers, files, metal scissors, a vice, sandpaper, a gasoline torch, a die, a titanium stick, crossbars of various sizes and others. For the convenience of cutting links, you should have several scissors, the ends of which must be ground to suit different wire diameters. You will also need a driver with a slot at the end for winding the spiral from which the links of the future “Italian” will be cut.

A set of crossbars can be purchased at any jewelry store or online store. However, you can use various bicycle spokes, electrodes for welding metal or something similar, as long as the crossbar is even.At its end you need to make a cut or simply drill a hole of a suitable diameter.

Necessary preparations

First of all, we melt the gold and pour it into the mold.

After which, we take out the finished precious metal rod and pass it through the rollers to the required diameter.

Now it’s time to pull the wire through the die. After which the wire will become round, smooth and ready for spiral winding.

To pull the wire through the die, you need to sharpen the end a little. True, this operation will be required when you are already pulling through very small holes. During the drawing process, the wire should be lubricated with the wax of a regular candle to reduce friction. When the wire has passed through the last hole and reached the desired diameter, it should be bleached and dried with a hairdryer. Now we wind the spiral. The photo below shows one of the ways to wind a spiral, but you can also wind it using a regular drill or screwdriver.

This is what it looks like after winding.

Now it needs to be diluted in the same way as in the photo below.

Now we begin to assemble the links into one whole. We do this as follows.

Then we compress the links.

The next half-link is inserted into the finished link. The end of the subsequent half-link should pass under turn b and appear from under turn a. And then, bypassing turn c, again under b and appearing from under a.

Then we turn the assembled product between our fingers into the same state as in the image and screw in the second half-link.

Now we turn the product to the next position and pay attention to the highlighted points in the photo.

We continue to assemble the remaining links in the same way as the previous ones until we reach the desired length.

Link soldering process

Before you start soldering, the chain must be dipped in a special flux. It degreases the areas that need to be soldered. After this, we place the product on the lethal and prepare the solder. Soldering can be done in different ways, therefore, depending on the soldering method, the solder is prepared accordingly. Let's consider the soldering method. One of the most common is to solder each link separately, applying solder with a titanium stick. For this method, the solder is rolled in rollers to a thin plate and cut into small squares with ordinary scissors.

Another method is very similar to the first, only solder, cut into squares, is laid out immediately in all places that need to be soldered. Since we dip the chain and solder in flux, the solder squares stay in place well. Now you need to wait a little and start soldering. It is convenient to spread the solder with an ordinary painting brush, preferably thin. After the solder is spread out and has dried a little, we apply the flux, all that remains is to light the burner and bring its flame to each place in turn.

The third method is widely used by professionals who have extensive experience in jewelry making. Its essence is that solder is poured into a mold, then through rollers and a die and turns into wire. When soldering, the end of such solder is brought to the place that needs to be soldered and the parts are connected. The photo below shows the places that need to be soldered.

Whitening process

After all the links are soldered, the chain must be bleached. I always use citric acid. I take an ordinary Turkish pot, in which housewives brew coffee, pour water into it and add 20-25 grams of food grade citric acid. Then I heat it with a burner and bring it to a boil. The water boils for 3-5 minutes, and then I place the Turk with the chain in an ultrasonic bath. This method very effectively cleans and whitens the product. I do not recommend using hydrochloric or sulfuric acid, as their vapors are very harmful to health, and even if it gets on your clothes, there will definitely be a hole. You can see what kind of tumbling I use

Then I put the chain in a tumbler, which cleans out the internal hard-to-reach areas. When I didn't have tumbling, I used baking soda. You need to pour it on your hand, add a little water to make a porridge. In this paste, you need to rub the chain in a circular motion, holding it with both hands.

Biting off the extra ends

The moment has come when it is necessary to remove unnecessary ends. The photo below shows which parts should be cut with metal scissors.

After all unnecessary parts have been removed, you will see a spiral-twisted chain in front of you.

Leveling process

Now you need to align the chain. To do this, we clamp it in a small vice and carefully twist and level it.

Sawing

Now that the chain is straight, we begin sawing. In other words, we give our product a shape in the form of smooth edges. For sawing, you will need a long wooden block, the surface of which should be perfectly flat. We drive a small pin into the bar and put one end of the chain on it. We pull the other end by hand and, using a needle file or file, file it with the other hand to the required state. After using a large file, you should use a smaller file to remove deep scratches. Don't forget to collect the drained gold. At the end, you should go over with fine sandpaper to give a smooth, perfect surface.

Now all that remains is to make the chain of the required length, solder the ears and install the clasp. You can see how to make ears. After installing the clasp, polish the chain clean, wash it in an ultrasonic bath and dry it with a hairdryer. The entire chain is ready! You can look at other types of chain weaving

Due to the variety of types of weaving of chains and bracelets, it becomes difficult to surprise jewelry connoisseurs. But every year new variations of weaving appear, which become more imaginative. For example, “Italian” weaving appeared in jewelry quite recently.

Weaving a gold chain “Italian”

What does weaving look like?

The type of weaving belongs to the “Bismarck” variety. Even from the name you can understand that it is more aimed at women. And this once again proves that even the massive Bismarck and its subtypes are intended for absolutely everyone. The knitting has a rather fancy shape and therefore is loved by customers. And also “Italian” has a lot of advantages, for example:

  • Unusual design.
  • A practical product that can be worn every day. Despite its massiveness, the “Italian” does not look rough at all, it is quite voluminous, so it is better to wear it over clothes. This is the type of weaving that allows you to demonstrate your position in society.
  • The weave is very strong and durable.

The technique itself consists of connecting double and triple links at different angles. The stages of making a chain can be expressed in the following sequence:

  • Preparation of links. This process involves the jeweler shaping a wire from a metal alloy. Next, it should be twisted and divided into separate parts of two or three turns.
  • The coils in the form of links are connected to each other.
  • After the chain is formed, the turns are soldered.
  • Excess ends are removed with pliers.
  • The product is bleached.
  • The finished product unwinds because the links were twisted together during the manufacturing process.

The technique itself can be performed in different ways. Since it is quite complex, stamping is excluded. But mechanical production is a completely acceptable option. This will save you money when purchasing jewelry. The process itself is controlled by a machine, so the item turns out more accurate and uniform.

But for those who want to feel their own uniqueness, you can order work from a jeweler. The master will manually weave a chain from wire made of precious metal. You can also discuss nuances with the chain maker regarding the thickness and sample size of the product. If you want something unique or high standard, the jeweler will fulfill your requirements. True, in this case there will be no mark on the copy.

The mark must be placed on a chain or bracelet; it is necessary to confirm the authenticity, as well as the presence of precious metal in the product. Usually on such weaving the marks are placed near the clasp and do not spoil the appearance at all. If you do not find such a sign, it is possible that your chain is made to order or is a fake. To prevent this from happening, avoid making purchases in pawn shops, from merchants, and in jewelry markets abroad. And at first glance, the product may seem confusing and incomprehensible. Therefore, it is worth checking the integrity of the links; if they cannot be seen, ask the seller for a magnifying glass.

Since the product is quite massive, it is profitable to counterfeit it and sell it at an inflated price. And also “Italian” can be easily made gilded; in appearance it will not always differ from gold jewelry. Therefore, before purchasing, keep an eye on the certificates and reliability of the seller in general.

Since gold is a soft metal, 999 standard is not suitable for such a thing. “Italian” is made from 585, 750 samples. It is in this case that the links of the product keep the desired shape and do not deform over time. But jewelry made from silver is sold at 925 and below. Since the noble metal in its pure form easily reacts with oxygen and becomes covered with dark spots. Therefore, find out if there is a rhodium coating on the jewelry.

The concept of fullness of links will help you save on purchases. There are two versions of the product: filled and empty. The hollow is made from “blown gold,” which refers to the presence of a cavity inside a chain link or bracelet. Thus, it is possible to reduce the weight of the product and, accordingly, its cost. Externally, the item will be no different from the filled decoration. But repairing an empty chain is much more difficult, since the links are difficult to solder together.

Even the weaving technique has several varieties. They do not have a name, but depend on the thickness of the links. Usually the required thickness is selected in jewelry stores. When choosing, you should proceed from your own taste, and also select a product according to the girl’s age. Thick specimens are suitable for the older generation; they will be able to draw attention to the product and its beauty. But young people should choose a delicate piece of jewelry that will only highlight the neck or wrist.

As for the weaving design, it is quite neat and does not require an additional pendant or pendant. Even without these accessories, the composition will look complete and attract attention. Of course, if you wish, you can choose a pendant, but it must be quite massive, since a small item will simply get lost against the background of the chain. But, most importantly, do not overdo it, so as not to overload your style.

A bracelet of this weave looks like an absolutely independent decoration. At the same time, the pendant or pendant can be combined with Italian weaving for the holidays, and the thing itself can be worn every day. Before purchasing an accessory, try on a composition with a pendant, and if it seems inharmonious to you, it is better to purchase a chain separately.

Massiveness depends on the thickness of the link. More massive “Italian” weaving products are suitable even for men. Openwork variations will decorate women. And also do not forget to choose the length of the product. It’s easy to choose an “Italian” bracelet, just know your size.

But the length of the chain depends on the area you want to emphasize. Usually girls choose short ones, and women focus on the lower neckline. A composition made from a bracelet and chain of the same Italian weave and the same type of metal will look especially beautiful. Then the image will be completely complete.

The “Italian” technique is not only beautiful, but also very durable. The durability of such products pleases all owners of jewelry. Since weaving has not gone out of fashion for several years, it has become a classic, and you can safely purchase it, adding new colors to your look.

Absolutely every chain or bracelet made of precious metal has its own execution technique. This can affect not only its appearance, but also its weight, cost, and ease of use.

Jewelry with “Italian” weave is distinguished by its majestic appearance and suits absolutely every look. Many jewelers point out that an alternative to such weaving is the Bismarck technique.

An “Italian” bracelet or chain has a structure of several links, this increases the weight of the jewelry and also visually creates volume. It must be admitted that such massive jewelry has a price that differs from the average.

Usually, Italian weave jewelry is made from:

Gold remains the most popular option; it is especially often bought as a gift, because the products are durable and expensive. Brass is used least often in manufacturing, but also has a number of advantages:

  • strength;
  • original appearance;
  • low cost.

This technique is performed both manually and mechanically. In production, precious metal wire is used.

The work is painstaking, time-consuming and requires increased attention. That is why a chain or bracelet made by a craftsman with his own hands costs an order of magnitude higher than usual.

Mechanics make the task easier, however, it is worth paying proper attention to such decoration to ensure that the links are in good working order.

When making an expensive purchase, you should always pay attention to the quality of jewelry. You can notice the flaws yourself, The main thing is to be guided when choosing by elementary rules:

  1. The type of jewelry should speak about its durability.
  2. The color of the precious metal should be uniform.
  3. The surface of the decoration should not have scratches, chips, or flaws.

When choosing a precious metal, it is worth considering some features. Gold is not subject to corrosion, so the jewelry will always look the same as when purchased and give off its characteristic shine.

Many people prefer silver, however, it has the tendency to oxidize, turn black and become covered with a film due to contact with air and water. Therefore, you will have to carefully ensure that your chain or bracelet looks decent. Brass is not a precious metal, but it is also not susceptible to corrosion, and its price is attractive and economical.

Advantages and disadvantages

Some of the advantages of this technique for making jewelry have already been mentioned above. Such majesty and mannerism is also due to the fact that Italy is an interesting country, a country of fashion, grace and impeccable taste.

You can immediately demonstrate your status, sense of taste and style. Classic clothes, evening suits and dresses go well with such jewelry.

Such chains and bracelets look very impressive on men because of their massiveness, which adds solidity to the image.

Only a few points can be considered as disadvantages:

  • Jewelry will not suit fragile girls because of the volume.
  • Difficulties arise when selecting a pendant.
  • Noticeable weight of the jewelry.

Despite some shortcomings, jewelry made using the “Italian” technique will always delight you and will serve you for many years. Next you can see the photos in which the “Italian” chain weaving is depicted in variations.
