For teenagers

What products can you use to add radiance to your skin? How to apply them correctly? And what nuances should be taken into account, a professional makeup artist and beauty blogger told us about this and more.

There are several products to create a radiant effect: highlighter, bronzer, illuminator. Large shining particles or small ones are added to their composition; they can barely shimmer or shine elegantly. Essentially they are all the same, but the coolest of them, in my opinion, is the Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance primer.

Primer Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance

It is multifunctional, and can be used to highlight any prominent areas of the face: cheekbones, the front surface and tip of the nose, and the inner corners of the eyes.

Modern “shiners” for skin

When choosing a product with a radiant effect, make sure that it also functions as a primer. This way you will get a universal product that can be applied over foundation, and under foundation, and on separate areas, and even used on the shoulders and collarbones.

How to choose glow products?

To match your skin tone. If you are very fair, dark shades will not suit you, and vice versa: if you are dark, light colors are not your option. If you want to brighten your face, choose products one or two shades lighter, no more. If you are going in the direction of tanning, then you also do not need to take products darker than one or two shades, otherwise your face will seem dirty.

How to apply products with a radiance effect?

It is important to observe moderation and know the areas to which you should add shine, and which areas are best left as is. For example, on the cheekbones, the front surface and tip of the nose, the inner corners of the eyes - you can! But on the cheeks and forehead it is better to avoid shiny products, otherwise the shine will quickly mix with sebum.

What is the ideal highlighter?

Eggshell colors. It contains pinkish, yellow, and peach particles, which give a multifaceted glow and make it as natural as possible. You can apply it with any medium-sized soft brush - from an eyeshadow brush to a blush brush.

How to use the illuminator correctly?

Illuminator is the lightest product in the “shining” category. It illuminates and has no glitter, meaning it can be used all over the face. It can also be added to face or body cream. It will create the effect of light scattering, and the skin will look smoother, as if “photoshopped”.

How to apply bronzer correctly?

First of all, remember: the ideal bronzer should be very hard - the higher the density, the harder it transfers to the brush, and the more natural your tan will be. Also, in my opinion, it is always a matte product, since there is no such thing as a shiny tan.

Everyone started cackling, which was a lot. Why is there a lot? Have you ever held in your hands what a makeup artist uses? Liquid primer - water, air application - in general there is no lighter and thinner layer, even with the most liquid and transparent tint, transparent powder - not powder at all, but the smallest transparent dust, local concealer - this is not discussed at all in the summer; it is necessary to protect the skin around the eyes, the heat did not cancel it (if there is something to correct), blush and highlighter are applied locally, and again, the heat is not a reason not to use them. Who even said that if it’s hot, then your face should be bare, otherwise it’s a slow death? You won’t be able to apply one tint to your face and make it shine, matte, or hide. What are you talking about? If we talk about everyday summer makeup for +40, then this is bb, concealer, cream blush and EVERYTHING! No glitter, shadows or eyebrows, because everything will run. Either don't sneak around at all, or don't show up. Be consistent in your reasoning. Otherwise, we don’t tint the skin, we leave bruises and pores, but we paint our eyes and lips...Home makeup artists, at least get yourself these products, learn how to use them, and then talk about plasters.

Over the past few years, from an ordinary beauty blogger with her Youtube channel, Elena Krygina has managed to turn into a real businesswoman. Her own beauty studio, online store, on-site master classes and, finally, the first reference book on makeup - in spite of all skeptics, Lena proved what can be achieved by being a true fan of her business.

“I can't live without foundation - it's what I use every day. I also can’t imagine my life without blush and eyebrow products. It seems to me that if these three points in makeup are completed, everything else is no longer so important. As for care, you can’t do without a high-quality moisturizing face cream and nourishing body oil. Without all these products I feel terribly uncomfortable. What I'm currently using is Guerlain Lingerie de Peau foundation, Maybelline volumizing brow gel, Benefit blush and Glamglow moisturizer.

The book “Makeup” is a guide that collects different types of appearance and offers options on how to make each of them even more beautiful and expressive with the help of makeup. Like a mosaic, in this book you can assemble any face by choosing the most suitable makeup techniques. It does not raise superficial questions about how to apply green eye shadow or red lipstick, but offers detailed instructions on how to learn to understand your face and how to find your own makeup algorithm. This is the main task of my first book.

The secret of perfect makeup is accuracy and strict adherence to proportions. Accuracy is needed so that the makeup looks neat in principle: there are no crumbling shadows, worn-out areas, too much foundation - everything should be very evenly and softly shaded. Proportions are lines. For example, if when creating eye makeup you draw a perfectly straight line, then round eyebrows will clearly go against them - all lines should be parallel.

Among the most common mistakes in daily care, I will name the lack of comprehensive care. There is no need to expect any miracles from an expensive cream if you use it every other time and do not approach the issue systematically, that is, do not take the entire line. Still, manufacturers expect that you will use the entire range, so one cream, in principle, cannot be enough, and even if used irregularly.

One of the key trends of the spring-summer 2017 season is makeup in one shade, when the makeup of the eyes, lips and cheeks is made in the same color scheme, and ideally with the same product. This technique is called “draping”, and it came back to us straight from the 70s. Its essence is in correcting the oval of the face with the help of blush: in the most extreme cases, the product can move from the cheeks to the temples, and in eye makeup to the side surfaces of the forehead. This trend can easily be seen in the makeup of David Bowie or Grace Jones. Today this technique is relevant again.

Metallic lipsticks and shadows with a pronounced metallic effect have returned to us from the 90s. Carrot-matte lips also carry well through the season. Plus bright elements and pure colors without any admixtures with strokes or graphic elements: for example, hard, broken arrows must be of some neon shades.

I never carry makeup with me. My cosmetics bag is assembled according to the standard principle: mattifying wipes, cuticle oil, a small moisturizing hand cream, a nude lip pencil and some colored tint. That's all, I never even carry a mirror with me.

I don’t always travel for love: a lot and most of them are work trips. With the mission of raising the level of beauty among citizens, I travel a lot around Russia. At the same time, I cannot say that I have any favorite destinations, but I know for sure that from time to time it is very important for me to visit Europe and America in order to be inspired, learn something new, try cosmetics that are not yet available in our market. And, of course, get acquainted with the makeup techniques of professionals from other countries. But I probably wouldn’t be able to single out any specific direction.

Summer makeup, whether barely noticeable or vice versa - catchy and daring, requires a special set of decorative cosmetics and has its own application rules. Bright sunlight and natural skin pigmentation dictate the conditions for facial makeup, taking into account which you can create a unique summer look. All the features of creating summer makeup are in the video tutorial of the famous top makeup artist Elena Krygina.

Video tutorial by Elena Krygina: rules of summer makeup

  • Pressed bronzer powder
  • Large soft brush (as for blending blush)
  • Eye primer type M.A.C. Prep+Prime
  • Eye shadows with a metallic tint, or “shining” pigments such as M.A.C. (pigments used in the video are Chocolate Brown and Sunny Daze)
  • Light pink pencil YVES ROCHER Couleurs Nature 3 in1 Eye Pencil 08 Blanc
  • Bright blue eyeliner L"Etoile Garconne 104 Raphaelle
  • Bobbi Brown Blush Coral
  • Highlighter M.A.C. Luster Drops Pink Rebel
  • Benefit Benetint lip pigment
  • Benefit Hoola Lipstick

Action sequence:

  • 1 The first step of any makeup, including summer, is careful preparation of the face. Namely: we properly tone and powder the skin of the face.
  • 2 Apply a little bronzer powder to a large brush (as for blush), and, removing the excess onto your hand, lightly transfer the shade to the face - starting from the side surfaces of the forehead and gradually gently “circling” along the entire contour of the face.
  • 3 Using the same light movements, barely touching the skin, apply bronzer to the tip of the nose and the sides of the neck. Using a powder brush, carefully blend the boundaries of the bronzer application.
  • 4 Draw a basic outline of the eyes along the upper and lower eyelids. Apply eye primer.
  • 5 Using an eyeshadow brush, pick up brown pigment and, carefully removing the excess onto your hand, darken the outer corner of the upper eyelid. Gently blend along the crease of the upper eyelid, achieving the smoothest possible transition from the dark outer corner of the eye to the lighter inner corner. We apply a little dark pigment to the lower eyelid.
  • 6 It’s time to apply a lighter shade of eyeshadow (or pigment). We place it with a flat eyeshadow brush on the moving upper eyelid, on the inner corner of the eyes and a little under the eyebrow. Shading.
  • 7 Use a white pencil to highlight the lower mucous membrane of the eye.
  • 8 Using a bright colored pencil, draw an arrow along the upper eyelid from the inner corner to the outer one, right above the interlash line. We draw it carefully.
  • 9 With light movements, apply radiant blush to the “apples” of the cheeks and powder them. To finish, use a blotting motion to apply a drop of highlighter to the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and the “tick” above the upper lip. Apply pigment and a little gloss to the lips themselves.
  • It is very important to understand that not a single bronzer is a correction product, because it has a pronounced radiant effect. So don't try to sculpt your face with bronzers, even if they're dark.

  • Don't forget that the face is not the only exposed area of the body in summer. Therefore, when applying bronzer to your face, it is logical to also apply it (in a minimal amount) to your hands, shoulders, and even legs.

Elena told the secrets of perfect makeup that is suitable for home, office or outings.

The ideal daytime makeup is makeup that is not noticeable on the face. This is very important, because in daylight your interlocutor can see all the “Extra” layers of foundation or powder. Therefore, the main rule in daytime makeup is not to overdo it.

- before applying foundation, the makeup artist advises spraying your face with a spray to fix the makeup. The spray smoothes out all micro-irregularities and roughness on the skin. Thanks to this trick, all subsequent products will lie more evenly. If during the day you need to correct or redo your makeup, but there is no time or opportunity for complete makeup removal, Elena also advises using this method: first spray your face with spray, and only then apply powder or foundation to your face.

To make your makeup look as natural as possible and not overloaded, it is very important to set the light correctly and have a good mirror. The face should be equally illuminated from all sides, and the mirror should be made of high-quality material. Thus, if your light is not ideal, when applying makeup, Elena advises trying to keep your chin a little higher - this way the light will fall more evenly on your face.

It is better to choose a base for makeup in the form of a pearl emulsion, lilac, purple or pink shade. You should get the effect of glowing your face from within. Many people neglect this product, while it gives the face a fresh, healthy look.

The desire for naturalness does not mean that you need to use only light foundations. They are good if you have perfect skin. Only if there are small imperfections on the skin, take foundations that cover well. To apply liquid products, use a brush, not a sponge. The more liquid the foundation, the more it gets stuck in the sponge and thereby increases the consumption of the product.

Immediately after applying foundation, you need to apply corrector, concealer and set everything with loose powder. The foundation on the skin quickly enters into various reactions with the environment, and powder prevents this process.

Foundations make your face look flat. Therefore, it is very important after toning to add volume to the face using bronzer and highlighter. The highlighter is applied to convex areas of the face: cheekbones, bridge of the nose, tick above the lip and chin.

If your finances are limited, blush is exactly the decorative product you can save on. They are applied over foundation and powder, so they do not affect your skin in any way. Matte blush should be highly pigmented, pink, coral or berry shade. On the contrary, the shades of shimmer blush should not be so saturated with a cool undertone.

For daytime lip makeup, lip tint or lip gloss is suitable. Another way to give your lips a more intense but natural shade is to use lip pencils in two shades. You need to paint your lips with a pink shade, and contour with a more natural, muted shade. If desired, you can add a little colorless glitter.

It is preferable to choose light shades with a reflective effect for eye shadows. They are not only easy to apply, but thanks to the reflective particles they also add volume. At the master class, Elena Krygina used pigment from Inglot.

For daytime makeup, you should not paint your eyelashes too thickly. It is important to paint well only the base of the eyelashes, and leave the tips light.

Despite the large number of decorative products, daytime makeup, which Elena Krygina demonstrated, is done in 5 minutes and can be easily transformed into a more evening version. To do this, you just need to draw arrows on your eyes and tint your lips.
