The Catwoman costume is a great choice. This is a strong, sexy and always recognizable image. Despite many interpretations, the cat jumpsuit is still relevant. Probably the most popular feline look of all time is the one created by Michelle Pfeiffer in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. However, Halle Berry's sexy Catwoman and Anne Hathaway's image in The Dark Knight Rises are following him. Below are detailed instructions on how to create all these catwoman looks with appropriate makeup.

Steps

Part 1

Create the look of Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman

    Buy a black vinyl jumpsuit. This is an important part of a Catwoman costume, and Michelle Pfeiffer's look is no exception. Try to find a jumpsuit with a long zipper in the front, a high collar and long sleeves. These jumpsuits are sold in costume stores and can also be purchased on eBay.

    • If you don't have the time or money to purchase a vinyl jumpsuit, you can use something similar from your wardrobe. For example, tight leather leggings or even tight black jeans.
    • A tight black turtleneck is a good top option.
  1. Embroider white stripes all over the jumpsuit. After all, you're trying to recreate Michelle Pfeiffer's costume, which was covered in white stripes. First you will need to draw lines on the suit with white chalk.

    • You can cover the entire jumpsuit, just the bottom, or just the top with white lines. Focus on the image of the catwoman you are trying to recreate. Take a needle and white thread and start stitching.
    • If your time is extremely limited, you can get by with strips of white chalk or paint them with some paint.
  2. Buy or make a cat mask. The black leather mask with cat ears is probably the most important element of Michelle Pfeiffer's look. For greater similarity, it would be best to buy such a headdress online from Amazon or eBay. These sites often sell complete kits that include a mask, gloves, and cat claws. But if you are short on funds, you can make such a headdress at home. Here's how:

    Make gloves with claws. The claws must be decent. All you need to do is get some elbow-length black gloves, a shiny material would be better, but any will do. Use scissors to cut sharp triangles on each finger.

    • You will need false black nails. The longer and sharper the better. The tips of the false nails should be peeking out from the triangular slits you left on the gloves. Ta-da-da-dam!
    • There are gloves on sale with the nails already glued, but by making them yourself, you can remove the gloves, leaving only the claws.
  3. Wear knee-high black boots. To complete the look, you will need black boots with very high heels. Polish them well before putting them on: a cat woman will never wear scuffed boots.

    Part 2

    Create an image of Catwoman Halle Berry
    1. Arm yourself with black leather pants or leggings. Halle Berry's look is a little different from the previous one, so a jumpsuit is completely optional. It is better that the trousers are made of leather or material with a moisture effect. These can be found at a costume store.

      • Although the trousers should be tight-fitting at the top, they should flare out at the bottom. These are exactly what Halle Berry wears in the film.
      • Using white chalk, draw lightning-shaped curves on the pants and cut them out with scissors to achieve a ripped effect.
      • Don't try to be neat: you want to make it look like you've been attacked by a horde of cats!
    2. Get a leather (or leather-looking) bra or bust. This suit should be quite revealing! For greater similarity, it is desirable that the top be leather, but if you do not find anything suitable, silk will do just fine.

      • If you have time before the day you need to wear a suit, why not try to get a flat stomach - the best accessory to go with it!
      • If you don't want to expose too much of your body or if you'll be outside, wearing a black jumpsuit with straps is a good alternative. Add some rhinestones to it and cut it in several places to achieve the effect of being scratched by claws.
    3. Tie two black belts around your waist. Halle Berry's belt was fastened crosswise at the waist, connecting the bra with leggings. It will be difficult to duplicate this costume, but you can use two belts and cross them across your chest. Ideally, belts should be canvas, black or khaki, but in a pinch, anything will do.

      Buy or make a catwoman headdress. As in the case of Michelle Pfeiffer, the image of the feline anti-heroine Halle Berry is complemented by a neat headdress - a half mask with ears. This Catwoman is matte black with no white stripes on her costume. The ideal would be to buy an analogue of such a mask on the Internet, but, of course, you can try to make the same one using the above tips.

      Shoes should be black with an open toe. If you want to create an image as close as possible to a movie heroine, you need to choose black shoes with an open toe and medium-high heels. However, any black shoes will do, as the trousers are dropped to the step and are not tucked into them.

      Find the whip and gloves. Accessories for this costume include black elbow-length gloves and a leather whip. You can buy a whip at a specialized costume store or on the Internet. As a last resort, you can paint the jump rope black.

    Part 3

    Create the look of Anne Hathaway's Catwoman

      Buy a black jumpsuit. The latest version of Catwoman was created by Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises. This look is most likely the simplest of all the cat women. But this fact does not deny his hypersexuality!

      • The basis of the costume is a black jumpsuit with long sleeves and a zipper at the front. If possible, try to get a matte black jumpsuit, although a shiny vinyl one will work too.
      • If you can't get your hands on a jumpsuit, tight black leggings and a zip-up jacket or turtleneck will do just fine.
    1. Tie a thick black belt around your waist. It will imitate Catwoman's useful belt. However, if you can get your hands on a real holster belt, that would be great!

      Buy or make a black mask and cat ears. Anne Hathaway, unlike the other Catwomen, does not wear a cat headdress, settling for a simple black mask and a headband with cat ears that allows her hair to hang freely at the back. In this form, this version of Catwoman is similar to the image created in the Batman film series by Julie Newmar in the 1960s. Any simple black mask (that covers your eyes) will work for this costume, paired with a cat ear headband.

      Wear black gloves. Any long black gloves will work for this costume, but try to get ones that will cover your hands above the elbows.

New Year is already very close, but the cat still doesn’t have a carnival costume? I would like to say: yes, and there is no need. Well, freedom-loving cats value nothing but their own fur. And all the quirks of people with dressing up only tire them. But if you decide to dress up your purr, then you need to do it right.

How to make a New Year's costume for a cat

Costumes for cats can be very different. The easiest way is to make a New Year's cap and a collar or bow tie. But you can approach the matter more thoroughly by sewing a full-fledged carnival costume. True, this will require more time and skill.

New Year's cap

Fleece is suitable for a headdress. It holds its shape well and at the same time is quite soft. You can choose any color, for example, traditional red. And for the edge and pompom it is better to take white fur or soft fluffy fabric.

How to sew a cap:

  1. Measure the circumference of the cat's head and make a paper pattern. Then cut the fabric.

    It is convenient to make a cap pattern using a compass

  2. Fold the piece in half with the right side inward and sew the back of the cap. It is better to do this on a typewriter. The seam will be stronger and smoother. But you can also do it manually.

    Sew fabric on a machine

  3. From white fabric, cut out the edge of the cap, 4–5 cm wide and length equal to the circumference of your head. And also a circle with a diameter of 5–6 cm for a pompom.

    The pompom can be made voluminous

  4. Along the edge of the circle, sew a “needle forward” stitch. Then gather the fabric by pulling the thread at the loose ends. You will get a pompom.

    The cap consists of three parts

  5. Stitch the side edges of the edge.
  6. Sew the edge to the cap, folding the parts right sides together (the seam will be on the wrong side).

    Sew a white fur trim to the cap

  7. Sew a pompom to the cap. To make the product fit better on the cat’s head, you can sew ribbons for tying or a round hat elastic on the sides.

    Sew on a pompom

  8. Make sure the cap fits properly by trying it on the cat.

    Try the cat's hat on

When choosing a costume for a cat, the main thing is not to overdo the outfit so that it does not restrict the animal’s movements. A bow tie is an elegant accessory that will give your cat a stylish, festive look and at the same time will not cause objections from the animal.

A bow tie is a self-sufficient accessory for celebrating the New Year

How to make a bow tie:

  1. From dense fabric that holds its shape well, cut out 3 rectangles with sides: 24x6, 6x2 and (circumference of the cat’s neck) x5 cm.

    Cut out the details of the tie

  2. On the longest and narrowest rectangle, press the seam allowances to the wrong side.

    Iron the seam allowances on the tie strap

  3. Fold the piece in half and machine stitch a seam to secure this position. Make a strap for a tie.

    Sew the strap close to the edge

  4. Fold the widest part - the base of the butterfly - right side inward. Stitch the long edges and turn the piece right side out. Iron so that the seam is in the middle.
  5. Sew short sections. You should get a ribbon closed in a ring. Iron again so that the last seam is in the middle of the piece.

    Sew the side sections of the main part

  6. Place the butterfly blank on top of the strap. Fold the edges of the smallest part - the membrane - inside out and iron. Tighten the strap and the main part of the butterfly with a membrane. Secure the position with stitches on the wrong side.

    Assemble a bow tie

  7. Sew a hook or Velcro closure onto the strap.

    Sew a clasp onto the strap

You can make a double bow tie. To do this, there must be two main parts. The second (upper) part should be slightly smaller in size than the first.

The combination of two colors in a bow tie looks more beautiful

Based on the vest, you can create a wide variety of New Year's costumes for your cat, choosing the color of the fabric and adding accessories.

Making Tips:

So, we looked at how to make a costume for a cat for the New Year. And you still have everything ahead: sewing, dressing, holding a photo shoot. Happy holidays to you and your cat!

The black cat is a mystical creature, it’s not for nothing that so many different signs are associated with it. Therefore, when choosing an image for a Halloween party, it is worth considering this character. Moreover, a cat costume for Halloween is quite easy to make at home.

Options

Before you start making a costume, it's worth thinking about what your character will be like. Photos of various options for images will allow you to get ideas for creating a costume and makeup.

Perhaps it will be Catwoman - a character from comics and Hollywood films. This heroine is brave, sexy, extremely clever and resourceful. Another option is a cute pet that doesn’t save the world, but gives its owners a lot of positive emotions. Or maybe you should dress up as a cat as a witch’s friend? This character is seductive, but very cunning.

Costume base

Depending on the image being created, the basis of the costume is selected. So, the catwoman costume is a tight-fitting jumpsuit made of shiny material. However, it can be replaced with tight-fitting trousers and a suitable top.

A pet cat or a witch's girlfriend may well be dressed in a dress or skirt with a blouse. So, the main requirement for a costume is color, since our cat is black, then the clothes need to be selected in the appropriate shade.

However, the black color can be “diluted” a little. Especially if the image of a domestic cat is created. In this case, you can use a white shirt and gloves.

Details

So, it is quite possible to make a cat costume for Halloween from ordinary clothes that you have in your wardrobe. But in order for the clothes to look like a carnival costume, it is necessary to supplement it with details, namely:

  • ears;
  • tail.

Let's figure out how to make these parts with your own hands. If you are creating the image of a catwoman, then you need to sew not just ears, but a special cap-mask with slits for the eyes.

To sew this part of the costume, you will need knitted material; you can take an old T-shirt or buy tricotine or other suitable fabric at the store. The main thing is that it stretches well, but the loops on the cuts do not creep.

The pattern of the cap is very simple, you need to cut out two rectangles from paper, and draw a smooth concave line on the upper long side from corner to corner. On the front side, draw cutouts for the eyes in the form of ovals. The main difficulty in making a pattern is determining the width correctly. The size of the pattern will depend both on the circumference of the head and on the degree of stretchability of the fabric, so the size of the cap will have to be determined experimentally. You will need to cover your head with a strip of knitwear and mark the desired width.

The cut out cap is sewn along the side and top semicircular sides. Then you will need to cut out the holes for the eyes. Keep in mind that when the fabric is stretched, the holes will increase significantly in size.

If you are creating the image of a pet, then a black cat costume for a girl can be complemented with another version of the ears. To make them you will need a hair hoop, as well as felt or other dense material in black and pink. You should cut out a double piece from black material and wrap it around the hoop and secure it with threads. Sew along the outer edge with a buttonhole stitch. Cut a single smaller piece from pink material and sew it onto the finished black piece to imitate the inside of the ear.

The tail for a costume can be constructed in different ways. The easiest option is to cut a strip of faux fur and sew it to a skirt or trousers. But you can go a more complicated route by creating a voluminous fluffy tail. To do this, you will need paper towel or toilet paper rolls. We insert these parts into black nylon golf (you can cut a piece from old tights), sew them up, and then wrap them in fur or fluffy “grass” yarn.

The costume for adults will be complemented by high-heeled shoes, appropriate makeup, as well as a manicure with sharp nails (you can use false nails). If a dress is chosen as the basis, then you should wear black fishnet stockings or tights. The neck can be decorated with a velvet or satin bow tie.

Children's version of the costume

If you are creating a children's version of a cat costume, then the ears and tail can be made in the same way as described above. But the basis of the costume for girls may be different.

The easiest way is to put leggings and a T-shirt on your child; by the way, you can take clothes not black, but with leopard print. A fluffy skirt will complement the suit. Even the most inexperienced seamstress can handle making a skirt. To make a skirt you will need black tulle. It is cut into strips 20 cm wide, the length of the strips is determined by the length of the skirt. In addition, you will need a wide elastic band, its length should be equal to the girl’s waist circumference plus a few centimeters for allowance.

Strips of tulle are collected onto a thread, pulling along one of the short sides. Having stretched the elastic, we sew tulle onto it in several layers to create a lush “tutu”. The ends of the elastic can be sewn, then the skirt will have to be put on over the head, or a Velcro fastener can be sewn on.

Ears for a children's cat costume can be made not only from a hoop, but also from a hat. You need to take a simple black knitted hat and sew on two fluffy pom-poms, which will represent the ears.

All that remains is for the girl to paint a spot on her nose and “whiskers” using face painting, and the cute black kitten is ready for the holiday.

A graceful, affectionate and intelligent animal. And how beautiful! It is no coincidence that in some countries it is considered a symbol of prosperity and wisdom. In Ancient Egypt they were revered and never offended. There has been a cat living in the palace of the Queen of Great Britain for many years, which is allowed to be present at all receptions. Both a child and a young girl can dress up in a carnival costume in the form of a cute cat. Making a cat costume with your own hands is not at all difficult. Its main attributes are ears and tail. Let's start with them.

Any black and white outfit, complemented by neat triangular ears and a long tail, can be considered a cat costume. In order to sew them you will need:

  • black fabric (it is better to use any natural or faux fur);
  • white fabric;
  • PVA glue;
  • scissors;
  • threads, needle;
  • cardboard;
  • pencil;
  • any filler;
  • hair hoop.

Work order

  • Make a pattern for the ears in the form of two triangles. One is 0.5 cm larger on both sides and 4 cm on one.

  • Cut out one black ear and one white ear along them. Turn the pattern over and cut out a couple more ears.
  • Attach the white triangle to the wrong side of the black one and fold the black edges 0.5 cm on both sides. Place a cardboard triangle inside.

  • Mark the places on the hoop where the ears should be and wrap the remaining 4 cm of black fabric around them, dripping PVA glue inside.
  • Make a tail pattern.
  • Cut out the tail into two pieces.
  • Sew them together, turn them inside out and stuff them with stuffing.

  • Sew the tail to a belt or suit.

If you have long hair, then it is not at all necessary to make ears from fabric or cardboard. All you need is two thin elastic bands and a few hairpins to make two cookies, as shown in the photo, which will look great, imitating cat ears.
By the way, two fluffy pom-poms attached to the girl’s hair will also solve the problem of the cat’s hearing organs.

To make our Murka truly elegant and festive, it is advisable to decorate the cat’s costume with a white breast - an openwork, lace or fur frill. It can also be made from white satin ribbon, assembled in loops of varying lengths.
Such a frill will decorate not only a girl’s carnival clothes. It will perfectly complement the catwoman costume. Be sure to attach a small black or red bow. Well, what would Murka be without a bow?!

A girl in such clothes looks magnificent and very erotic. The attributes for it can be used the same as for a children's costume: ears and tail. For adult ladies, a white frill will perfectly replace a deep neckline and a bow on the neck. Fur cuffs will add fluffiness. It's very easy to make them. Take two strips of any fur 3-10 cm wide and slightly longer than the circumference of your wrist. Sew them into a ring.
You can diversify your clothes by sewing a fur hood. The photo shows the pattern of such an original addition. Separately, patterns for ear patterns are given, which are sewn onto a ready-made hood for adults.
They are cut out in four parts and sewn together in pairs to form triangular bags. Put some padding polyester and a piece of cardboard, cut according to the same patterns, into them and sew them to the hood.

Cat in a hat

If you still have a lot of time and material at your disposal, you can make a special hat with ears. The photo shows a pattern for such a headdress. It will perfectly complement both children's and adult cat costumes. You don’t have to sew the hat, but use a ready-made one by sewing on ears made according to the patterns shown above. Ears on a brimmed hat look flirty. This costume can be made for a boy cat. If you throw a cape over your shoulders, put boots on your feet, and attach a sword to your belt, you get a chic puss in boots.

One of the most important moments in creating a cat's image is applying the appropriate coloring to the face. Here is where your imagination can run wild. The catwoman costume will be complete. After all, a cat's face is not only black whiskers. Don't forget to draw:

  • three to four vertical stripes above each eyebrow;
  • slanted eyeliner;
  • nose, in the form of a black pipette at the tip of the nose;
  • above the upper lip you can draw a stripe up to the nose and decorate the skin with black dots;
  • if you are depicting a tabby cat, you can make faint stripes on the cheeks.

Having made the most necessary attributes, you can think about clothes. It needs to be selected or sewn in one or two tones. Of course, there are also three-colored cats, but it’s difficult to convey this in a suit. A woman’s black cat suit looks interesting and elegant. A dark leotard, skirt or overalls can be found in any wardrobe of both adults and children.

We have long learned to dress up our pets in clothes and even shoes. A cat in a cat costume looks funny. In the photo, Murka is wearing a simple cape, tied around his neck with a bow. See similar master classes:
