What are the best Japanese diapers? Which Japanese diapers are best for newborns? The best Japanese diapers for newborns

For men

Every parent wants to give their child the best and make their child’s life comfortable. In the first years of a baby's life, it is very important to make friends with good diapers. Not only the health, sleep and mood of the baby, but also the general atmosphere in the family depends on this. If parents get enough sleep, spend more time with their child, and not washing diapers, sheets, panties and tights, then accordingly they have more patience and have the strength to fully feel the great happiness from the little man.

As the head of an online store, I carefully select the range of products to best satisfy the needs of our customers. After working for a long time with various brands and communicating with regular customers, I have a clear opinion that Japanese diapers today are the best choice for caring parents. However, the problem is that Japanese brands are still poorly represented in the retail chain. To compensate for the lack of information about such useful children's helpers, I will try to cover this topic today.

The most popular are Japanese diapers and panties Merries, Moony, GooN. Surely you are wondering what the difference is between them. To answer this question as fully as possible, I will dwell on each brand separately.

Comparative features of Japanese diapers

In order to have more information to provide advice to our customers, we, of course, also studied diapers from all three brands ourselves. It is quite obvious that the Merries diapers turned out to be the thinnest of all. Comparing GooN (GuN) and Moony (Mooney), we did not feel a significant difference in terms of density. Apparently this is why GuN and Muni are able to absorb more liquid than Meries. Muni diapers absorb moisture the fastest.

However, always consider your child's tendency to have allergic reactions. After all, the more liquid the diaper absorbs, the longer the child does not have to change it. On the one hand, this is an advantage, and on the other, a disadvantage. If your child is prone to allergies, prolonged contact of the baby's skin with the diaper is, on the contrary, not advisable - you better change the diaper more often. You have to decide for yourself on this issue. If your baby's skin can easily tolerate prolonged contact with the surface of the diaper, then both Moony and GooN are suitable for you. In this case, you will not bother your baby once again by changing his diaper, and you will save money on other necessary things. But if your child’s skin is prone to various kinds of allergic reactions, prickly heat, rashes and redness, then you shouldn’t take risks and tempt fate - feel free to choose Merries! After all, the health of your heir or heiress is more valuable than all the money in the world.

For most children, diapers from all three manufacturers are quite suitable. Judging by the reviews of our regular customers, if a child does not poop at night, he can survive the whole night in one Meries or Mooney or GuN diaper. The main thing is to choose the right size.

Merries diapers receive consistently positive reviews, especially for newborns. If we analyze the opinions of our clients, we can recommend the following: from birth it is best to use TM Merries products - it is unlikely that you will be dissatisfied with them. And then you can experiment by buying GuN and Muni. After trying them all, you will be able to evaluate their benefits for your child. After this, it will be easy for you to choose the brand you like, although some of our clients use diapers from all three manufacturers alternately. After all, all these products are of very high quality, and for the special comfort of the baby, they have indentations on the inner surface that allow the chair to be absorbed without coming into contact with the delicate baby skin. Thanks to this structure of the diaper, the bottom remains clean and, most importantly, dry, because it seems to rise above the recesses in the material.

How to determine the correct size?

Your baby will always be comfortable in a diaper if you choose the right size, which depends on the baby's weight.

Eg, if you need Merries diapers for the little ones, these are sizes NB (up to 5 kg) and S (4-8 kg). They are created in such a way that in no case do they put pressure on the tummy or disturb the wound on the navel. This is why the smallest sizes of Merries diapers do not have elastic around the tummy. It would seem that this is an undeniable plus, but, according to our customers, due to the lack of elastic, leaks are possible, especially along the back. I hasten to reassure you: starting from size M (6-11 kg) onwards, Merries already has an elastic band, because the baby grows up and moves more. Accordingly, without an elastic band, the diaper will simply fall off.

But Moony diapers for babies (sizes NB (up to 5 kg) and S (4-8 kg)) have another advantage. In the navel area, they have a cutout for the navel, which is designed not to harm the unhealed navel or injure the umbilical cord stump that has not yet fallen off.

When choosing between diapers, keep in mind that Meries are small size. That is, GuN and Mooney of the same size will be slightly larger. Therefore, if you are using Meries diapers, but the child has clearly outgrown them, you can buy those GuN and Muni designed for the same weight. After all, moving to the next size will increase the cost of 1 diaper, and by temporarily switching to GuN or Muni, you will save money. Manufacturers, as a rule, form packaging in such a way that as the size increases, the size of the pack remains the same, and the number of diapers in it decreases.

Our regular customers often say that for children of average build (not very thin and not very fat), you should select a diaper based on the first number of the weight range indicated on the package. That is, if your child weighs about 6 kg, then the Merries diaper in size M, designed for a weight of 6 to 11 kg, is most likely ideal for him. When the baby reaches 9 kg, move immediately to the next size - L, intended for children weighing from 9 to 14 kg.

Panties

I would also like to focus on diapers in the form of panties, because they are very popular among our customers.

Panties from all three manufacturers are almost identical to each other. They all require that to remove them you need to tear them apart along the side seams. True, GuN are a little harder to tear than Meries and Mooney.

To ensure that the baby’s diaper does not press anywhere, you need to take into account the child’s build, the size of the baby’s tummy after eating and in a sitting position, as well as the tightness of the elastic on the panties around the tummy and legs. According to our customers, GooN panties have the tightest elastic band both around the tummy and on the legs. They are followed by Merries panties. But the loosest elastic band is recognized in Moony panties.

Judging by customer reviews, the differences between products in thickness and volume of absorbed liquid are not very significant. However, Meries panties are rightfully considered the thinnest. But because of this advantage, they absorb slightly less than the other two samples. Next comes the Muni, and our clients recognize the GuN panties as the tightest. In terms of absorbency, no one noticed a significant difference between the GuN and Muni panties.

In the rating of softness of panties, the Moony brand took the palm. Many parents consider it a great advantage that GuN and Muni panties are produced separately for boys and girls. The version for boys is designed in such a way that the special absorbent zone is located a little higher, respectively, for girls - a little lower, taking into account the anatomical features of the children.

Secret nuance

Both the diapers and panties described above are produced by Japanese manufacturers both for their own domestic market and for export. Try to find diapers and panties specifically designed for Japanese consumers. All export analogues cost much less, but are also made from lower quality raw materials, so they will certainly disappoint you in many respects. Our customers especially appreciate products designed specifically for Japanese children.

To summarize, I would like to recommend choosing Merries diapers for newborns. I have never heard anything negative about this brand from customers of our online store. Then you can try Moony and GooN and combine them. If Meries “leaks”, you can leave them only for daytime, and put on Muni or GuN at night. Time will tell which diaper combination is right for your baby.

Now about the transition to panties. It is worth replacing the diaper with panties when the baby begins to actively move a lot. After all, it is difficult to catch a running child and put on a diaper, which will subsequently begin to slip. I also recommend starting with Merries. Only then can you try other Japanese diaper panties. If the material side of the issue is not your primary concern, then Moony will be the best choice of panties.

Among our clients there are active supporters only of Merries, others love only Moony, many buyers prefer to buy only GooN. There are, of course, experimental parents who try other Japanese diapers and then return to their original choice.

The inventive solution of one of our customers turned out to be very practical: during the day she puts a diaper of one size on her child, and at night she uses a larger product. This is convenient during periods of active growth of the baby, who, as he grows up, increases the duration of sleep and, accordingly, secretes more fluid.

In general, the experience of our online store and the positive feedback from our regular customers prove that Japanese diapers are indeed the highest quality diapers available in the Russian retail chain. The final choice depends on your financial capabilities and the characteristics of your baby.

It will be dedicated to diapers, and it is based on my personal experience - oh, how many brands of diapers we have tried over these few years!

It's no secret that the right diaper can make a mother's life amazingly easier, but that “something” in which only the name remains of the diaper will definitely bring a lot of trouble. I would like to make life easier for other mothers by talking about my own “tests” of diapers - perhaps my words will help you make your choice.

Over these few years, we have tried different brands of diapers - the well-known Pampers, Libero, Huggies, not the most famous in Russia Meries and Goo.N... And, of course, a number of unknown diapers, the names of which you won’t recognize now, because they were used in extreme circumstances. I remember well one case when we were actively walking (I was trying to regain my figure after childbirth), and during a walk in the park there was an “embarrassment”, the house was far away, and I didn’t have a spare diaper with me (what a bungler!) - it’s good that It wasn’t me and my child alone in the park, but the majority of mothers were responsive.

Huggies diapers

Huggies New born

It was with this brand of diapers that my acquaintance with them began - we used them in the maternity hospital. I admit, I was disappointed - they immediately rushed to crawl off my baby, and he is not the smallest one - 3.5 kilograms at birth! Also, the diapers have a very inconvenient small Velcro that doesn’t stretch well.

And, on top of that, it turned out that they were leaking. Now I know that this is the fate of almost all diapers, but at the time these diapers seemed like a nightmare to me.

Huggies Classic

To be honest, I can’t imagine how anyone uses these diapers - they are very rough and hard (just like paper!), Is it possible to put a baby’s bottom in something like that? This brand is the only one that did not pass the diaper test for my son, he was naughty until they were removed from him.

The only good thing about this brand of diapers is the wide Velcro (and it has great stretch!), which holds the diaper itself perfectly. Honestly speaking, I don’t understand why other Haggis have some kind of nonsense instead of Velcro, if Huggis Classic already has excellent Velcro.

Huggies ultra comfort

Diapers are like diapers - the most ordinary ones. They didn't cause any irritation, didn't chafe, and didn't pass the diaper leak test like all the other Huggies. The vaunted elastic waistband and fasteners did not prove their worth - the diaper constantly fell off the child.

There were also some Disney characters drawn on them - the child was happy, and that was good.

Pampers diapers

Pampers New baby

This brand of diapers is the second one we have tried after Haggis New Bourne. Like New Born, the surface of the diaper was pleasant and soft, however, unlike the hard Velcro of Huggies, the Velcro of this brand of diapers stretched well and held tightly, although they were still a little narrow. Well, they didn’t pass the standard diaper leak test, which, I admit, was disappointing.

And a few more words about Velcro. I remember well that they could be pulled apart and stuck together without fear (at first you don’t know how often you need to change the diaper, so you constantly look to see if the baby has decided to do his business), and the properties of the Velcro are not lost, they continue to hold tightly diaper.

Pampers Active baby

I really liked the Velcro on these diapers, which gently but firmly covers the baby, and the sides of these diapers are perfectly tightened and stretched if necessary, and all this without restricting movement.

In general, these are ordinary, good diapers. Like everything, sometimes they leak.

Pampers Sleep&Play

When purchasing, we were told that these brands of diapers contain chamomile extract, which, they say, takes care of the baby’s skin and does not cause irritation. The baby really didn’t experience any irritation, but I did, due to the persistent smell of the diaper. It wasn't very pleasant - the diaper smelled like chamomile air freshener. I don't understand why the poor diaper was scented so strongly.

If you forget about the smell, then these Pampers are quite wow - they don’t slip off the child, and they don’t leak so often. I didn’t notice any fundamental difference from the previous ones, the pattern is exactly the same. Perhaps they differ in technology, or perhaps only in smell.

Libero diapers

We used the Libero brand for quite a long time, mainly due to the fact that the diapers successfully passed all kinds of tests (for leakage, “stiffness” in place, skin irritation, softness of the surface of the fabric). We also used Libero panties and were pleased.

These diapers still have a drawback - they are quite bulky and dense, which is not always convenient.

This is where my experience with Western brands of diapers ended, as I discovered something new for myself. Somewhere on the Internet (perhaps even on the website) I found out that everyone praises Japanese diapers, saying that they absorb, hold, and do not fall off, and are generally good in all respects. In stores I found Japanese diapers of the Marries and Goo.N brands.

Merries diapers

Merries diapers

The first time after purchasing these diapers, I simply flew and couldn’t get enough of it. I tried to find a flaw in their quality or design and could not. They really don’t leak, and Marris diapers have been “tested” with “surprises” of a wide variety of sizes - and not once have clothes or hands been soiled. The plus is that the thickness of these diapers is absolutely ridiculous, and they absorb as well as thick Liberos.

In addition, they are very soft, very pleasant to the touch. It even seemed to me that the skin on my son’s butt became healthier and softer.

It is also convenient that the diapers have special strips that make it easy to determine when exactly the diaper needs to be changed.

The waistband has an excellent wide elastic band and reusable Velcro – everything is done in such a way that the diapers are held well on the child’s body without squeezing it.

They have a small drawback - either the Japanese give birth to huge children, or something else - but the pattern of these diapers is very large, if not gigantic. Therefore, you should choose the size very carefully.

Another feature is a large number of diapers in the package. And, as with everything, the larger the size, the fewer diapers for the same cost.

The biggest disadvantage of this brand of diapers is their price. But believe me, it's worth it! My husband was at first reluctant to buy these diapers (expensive), and then, once we were left with our son for two days with one Marries diaper and a pack of Huggies, he changed his mind.

Merries panties

After the test of Merry's diapers was successful, we took the risk of buying panties from this company. And we were not disappointed. They differ from diapers of this brand only in that they are panties. And the price is higher, and there are fewer panties in the pack than diapers.

The child is very pleased with the panties. I was surprised to learn that my active son can be even more active thanks to the convenience of Marriz's panties.

Diapers Goo.N

Diapers Goo.N

These diapers are my second experience with Japanese diaper brands. In terms of their qualities, they are no worse than Merris diapers - they hold up well, are perfectly absorbed, are easy to change, and do not rub. They are a little rougher than Merris diapers, but much (!) softer than various Huggies. For the first time, Goo.N diapers were tested on a train - we couldn’t change them for a long time, but they didn’t leak, and the baby didn’t start acting up due to discomfort.

These diapers also have strips (there are three of them) that can be used to tell how full the diaper is.

The negative side of these diapers is their cost. It is worth remembering that the packaging of these diapers is large - probably in Japan it is the custom to sell a lot at once.

Panties Goo.N

Panties of this brand have absorbed all the qualities of diapers: a soft, breathable surface, good absorbency, and an excellent elastic waistband.

These panties are also interesting because they have different models for girls and boys (starting from 9 kilograms). And they don’t differ at all in their drawings, I checked!

The disadvantage of panties is their price. However, even my mother justified this expense.

This is how my everyday tests of diapers from Pampers, Libero, Huggies, Meries and Goo.N went. I’m not going to experiment and test diapers anymore - I’ve already found something that really suits me and my son (and after a while he won’t need them at all). Now we use panties from Meries and Goo.N, sometimes Libero when we can’t find Japanese ones.

Many of my friends criticize me for my pro-Japanese statements regarding diapers, believing that spending on them is not justified. However, now I don’t have any problems - I know for sure that my son is comfortable, that he doesn’t feel pressure anywhere, doesn’t rub or squeeze. And I also know for sure that in any situation, my and his clothes will remain clean - and this is worth a lot.

I hope my little experience in testing diapers will help at least some of the new mothers who I know read this site. I know from myself that it is extremely difficult to choose something that is not for yourself; in such a situation, only the life experience of others can save you. Let's listen to each other - it's much easier to make the right choice than to find it through trial and error.

And finally: happiness to you and easy motherhood, mothers and those who are just about to become one. Let your children make you happy every hour, grow up beautiful, smart, healthy and kind!

The products of Japanese manufacturers have firmly entered the world market, gaining a high reputation due to impeccable quality and reliability. New technologies in production and innovative developments are their undeniable advantages. Cultural traditions and a high level of production have a positive effect on the quality of manufactured children's goods. Specialists from the Daughters-Sons online store tried to conduct a high-quality analysis and review of Japanese children's diapers.

Quality of Japanese diapers

Surface of Japanese diapers

Pediatricians often advise paying attention to the quality of the manufactured material of diapers for babies. According to doctors, the material plays a paramount role for the healthy condition of the child’s skin. In direct contact with the baby’s delicate skin, the material should not cause an allergic reaction, irritation, redness or discomfort in children. Japanese manufacturers use natural material - cotton. As you know, this material is very delicate and soft to the touch, which is very important for the first sensations of a newborn. Depending on the brand of the Japanese manufacturer, the cotton is soaked in a solution of vitamin E, which is a natural antiseptic. The inner surface of the diaper from the Japanese manufacturer is impeccable in quality and comfort for children of any age.

Moisture absorption is the key to healthy skin

Poor moisture absorption can cause diaper dermatitis. The baby may experience redness of the skin, peeling and blisters. If the diaper does not absorb moisture correctly, this causes a “greenhouse effect”. In Japan, all diapers are tested using modern equipment. Constant innovative developments allow us to improve the filler material in order to eliminate as much as possible any discomfort on the child’s skin. Fillers that absorb moisture are hypoallergenic and safe for health. Testing is carried out strictly in accordance with international quality standards. The surface of the diaper promotes rapid absorption of moisture, while leaving the baby's skin dry. The manufacturer's line includes diapers for newborns. They allow you to quickly absorb the baby's liquid stool, which is important for this period of a child's life.

Did you know...

Japanese diapers and panties are equipped with a moisture indicator, which indicates that it is time to change the diaper. This important distinctive feature of the Japanese product allows a young mother to quickly navigate the care of her baby.

Breathability

According to many parents, an important indicator for diapers is breathability. Many mothers say that the baby’s skin “breathes” in diapers. Let's look at what makes the product breathable.

  • Firstly, as mentioned above, due to the natural inner layer.
  • Secondly, the absorbent layer of Japanese diapers consists of a special absorbent that works like a micropore. This material allows air to circulate.
  • Thirdly, the design of the diapers itself contributes to the quality of breathability: reusable elastic bands, elastic waistbands, and characteristic cutouts.

Japanese manufacturers have standard diapers and panty diapers in their line, with the characteristic amenities of various models. What are the differences and advantages of this or that “design”?

The diapers are held in place due to both the soft elastic band and the gathers on the back and around the legs, as well as comfortable soft reusable Velcro. This design allows you to quickly change a diaper for a newborn or older child. The panties have holes for the legs, but this model does not have Velcro. Instead of Velcro, there is a soft elastic band around the tummy.

Panties, in different models, are used depending on the weight and age of the children. As the baby grows up, he begins to actively explore his environment: crawl, move, jump and run. At this period of life, it becomes more convenient for a child to use panty diapers, because they have an elastic band, thanks to which the “panties” will not fall off during active movements. They are as easy to put on as regular panties and can be removed with a gentle tug along the side seams. The panties do not need to be adjusted according to the child’s body size using Velcro; they take the shape of the body well.

The choice between diapers and panty diapers is mainly determined by the preferences of the parents and, of course, depends on the character of the growing baby.

Expert opinion

Until six months we used regular diapers, after 6 months I swore off using them. There is nothing better than panty diapers! I have an active child, he was constantly crawling and regular diapers were constantly falling off. By the way, I tried panties from different brands and settled on Merries. “Gong” are also good, they are in no way inferior, but somehow they have already gotten used to Merris.

We buy GooN diapers. We like. They have an elastic band and wide Velcro fasteners. The diaper fits comfortably on the baby and holds well. The diaper does not put pressure on the tummy and fits snugly to my daughter’s body. When she wants to go to the toilet, she tries to unfasten the linden straps herself and points to the diaper.

Japanese diapers and panty diapers

Diapers undergo mandatory quality control and the products are hygienic. This applies to all types and all models of Japanese diapers. When choosing products, you need to focus on your baby. Every child is unique. What may suit one child may not suit another child. Many parents refer to the opinions of other mothers and fathers, try what suits another child, and are disappointed. To choose the right diapers, you need to observe your baby from the first days, and, focusing on his needs, choose wisely. Many mothers and fathers advise to start by purchasing small trial packages and testing different models. In addition, an important task is also the correct choice of diaper size (read also “Diaper sizes”).

When choosing diapers, I ordered a Moon newborn pack and a Merries 90 pack. Merries suited us better. Cool, very gentle. My daughter slept almost all the time, with a break for feeding. We also used up Moon. Everything went into effect. I am already having my second child and of all the diapers I have tried, Merises are the softest.

This practice is good because it allows you to try out different models and choose the most comfortable product. Experts advise that when buying diapers, you should focus not on the baby’s age, but on his weight. Japanese diapers differ in sizes, based on the weight of the child. The size range looks like this: NB (up to 5 kg), S (4-8 kg), M (6-11 kg), L (9-14 kg), XL (12-20 kg), Big (12-22 kg ), Super Big (13-25kg). The line of different Japanese manufacturers may vary, but not by much.

When choosing diapers, you need to focus on the time of day. Japanese manufacturers produce sleep diapers. Night diapers have increased moisture absorption, so they are denser and more waterproof. Thus, the likelihood that the child’s sleep will be disturbed by discomfort is less. During the day, the child can wear a classic diaper or a panty diaper. Sometimes parents, when purchasing products, combine purchases depending on the functions. But it should be noted that “daytime” Japanese products do an excellent job of their function during night or daytime sleep. Everything here is individual and depends on the uniqueness of each child.

A brief overview of Japanese brands of baby diapers on the Russian market

The most widely represented models on the Russian market are Merries, Goon, and Moony. Let's look at some brief distinguishing characteristics.

Merries diapers are the thinnest, so they are well suited for the very sensitive skin of newborns. The models are small, which is important to know when purchasing these products. Diaper panties are not divided by gender, they are universal. The surface is vitaminized. Merries have good recommendations from parents and are popular.

Goon diapers are premium products. The line includes models for boys and girls, which expands individual choice. Due to their anatomical structure, they are suitable for sleeping and active pastime. Contains vitamin E.

Moony diapers are designed taking into account the anatomical structure of the umbilical cavity. They are well suited for children whose navel has not yet healed, as they prevent the fabric from coming into contact with the baby’s delicate skin. There are models for girls and boys.

Maneki diapers are made with a multi-layer 3D structure, are breathable, and protect the skin from diaper rash.

GENKI diapers have models with seat division, thereby helping to eliminate allergic reactions.

MamyPoko diapers are large in size and can absorb moisture for 10 hours. The diaper absorbent was developed by Unicharm and is exclusive to the market in this segment.

What questions worry mothers most when choosing diapers?

The most important question that mothers ask specialists is: “How will I know when it’s time to change the diaper? How can I avoid redness and irritation of my baby’s delicate skin?” These worries cause natural anxiety and concern for your child.

Absolutely all Japanese manufacturers use a special fullness indicator, which shows when the diaper requires replacement and helps to avoid leakage. At the same time, there is no need to bother the baby once again by checking the diaper. The indicator strips will change color when the product is completely filled. This innovation is a distinctive feature of Japanese manufacturers.

Japanese products are made exclusively from hypoallergenic hygienic materials. They do not contain film, which is used in most diapers by manufacturers in other countries. Due to this, Japanese diapers have good recommendations from pediatricians. Since the technology allows the skin to remain dry and breathe, the skin is not irritated, does not experience discomfort or redness.

I deliberately did not first get acquainted with the reviews of other mothers, I decided to build on my own feelings and my evaluation criteria. I will only note that I have no experience in using diapers common on the Russian market, and therefore I cannot compare with them.

At the moment, my baby has already tested: MERRIES, MOONY, GOON, PAMPERS, MAMY POKO. It should be noted that all these diapers are in the same price category.

At the maternity hospital we used Pampers for the baby, and we really liked them - thin, comfortable, and absorbent well. The manufacturer indicates that the child will be comfortable in them for up to 10 hours, but our baby quickly responded to his fullness, showing with all his appearance that it was time to change Pampers. I don’t know if the quality of Pampers offered on the Russian market is different, I can’t say anything.
The only drawback of Pampers is the harsh fasteners, which often rubbed the baby’s skin. And one more note, it was from Pampers (size up to 5 kg) that our baby grew faster. We could still use the remaining diapers of the same size for about a month. This means they are a little smaller.

Now about Merries . My friends in Japan prefer them, and they recommended them to me. Indeed, there are no comments about the Merries: a very soft textured inner layer, excellent absorption, I still only use them at night (the child sleeps peacefully all night), soft and thin Velcro fasteners. Everything is fine. The only negative is that in one package there is only one design of diapers (but this is for visual moms)).
