New Year is approaching. And during this festive time, I want to turn my life into a fairy tale, at least for a few days.

If you already have the base (i.e. the basket), this will only take a few minutes. And if not, don't worry.

The basis for a New Year's basket or wreath can be made from newspaper tubes.

You will need:

Newspapers, scissors, PVA glue, knitting needles, paints (gouache), tinsel, ribbons, Christmas toys, pine cones, nail polish with glitter.

In fact, you can make a wide variety of crafts from newspaper tubes that are made from twigs or straw. Products are produced no worse than from natural materials.

But let's get down to business.

We take a newspaper and prepare strips the size of about one-third of a standard newspaper sheet. We wind these strips onto a knitting needle.

Note:

If you want to get white tubes, then use sheets with white margins. Place the field on the opposite side of the knitting needle.

The smaller the angle between the knitting needle and the edge of the paper strip, the smoother and slimmer the tube will be.

Only the tip of the sheet is secured with glue.

When you have prepared 20-30 tubes, you can take a break and try weaving.

Weaving from newspaper tubes for beginners

To start, you need 8 tubes. Place 4 horizontally, 4 vertically, intertwining with each other.

Then take 2 more tubes and start weaving in a circle, bringing one down, the other on top and swapping them.

After a couple of circles, braid not two, but one base tube at a time.

When the tube runs out, insert a new one and continue. You can make a real deep basket. But for the first time I decided to make a flat bottom and a handle.

We close the weaving by bending the ends of the base tubes down. All ends can be secured with glue.

Handle weaving also has its own. But I just braided it, strengthened it with wire and secured it to the bottom.

Coloring

It is better to color the tubes before weaving, but I did it after I made the basket. It was not painted over perfectly, but this also had its own peculiarity. The basket turned out to look like it was woven from a grapevine: it is also light on the fold.

You can use either gouache or acrylic paint or stain.

Let the product dry. If you varnish it, it will look even more like the real thing.

Final stage

Now you can decorate. If this is your first product and it doesn't turn out very neat, don't worry. Everything can be compensated for with tinsel.

I like the green color, it perfectly imitates the green legs of a spruce tree.
