How to understand if it suits you without bangs. Will bangs suit me, and if so, what kind: types of bangs and their secrets, photos and videos

For teenagers

Bangs never go out of fashion, they are only replenished with new variations, allowing you to better emphasize the advantages of the face and hide flaws. But all this only works if you choose the right type. Having learned how to choose bangs according to your face shape, as well as taking into account all the features of caring for such a hairstyle, you can safely decide to change your image.

Basic methods for choosing a suitable haircut

Many girls today ask the question: “How do I know which bangs suit me?”

They download special programs in which they can apply hair, buy false bangs, experiment with pinning strands to recreate the desired effect, because this haircut has a number of advantages:

  1. Improves facial proportions.
  2. Draws attention to the eyes.
  3. Hides expression lines on the forehead.

But an incorrectly chosen one can make the face more gloomy, distract attention from the eyes or cheekbones, while it is beneficial to hide an overly wide forehead and advantageously emphasize the oval of the face.

When deciding how to choose your bangs, you should consider:

  • face type;
  • hair structure (thick or thin, curly or straight);
  • individual facial features;
  • even skin type.

Oily skin on the forehead will constantly make the strands above the forehead greasy and will have to be washed every day. Therefore, it is so important to choose the right form and take these parameters into account.

We select a hairstyle depending on the shape of the face

The first thing you should pay attention to when deciding how to choose the right bangs is your face shape and proportions, based on which you can decide which hairstyle is best for you. For oval, triangular, square and other face types, certain hairstyles are optimal, while some only highlight flaws.

Once you learn how to choose the right bangs for your face shape, you will complete 90% of the necessary selection steps. After this, you only need to consider whether your hair is curly, and whether you want to make your face thinner or, on the contrary, wider.

Having taken a text test on the Internet: which bangs suit me, you are unlikely to be able to get the result that suits you. It is better to immediately start searching for the optimal shape according to the contours of the face. Thanks to a simple comparison table, you can easily understand who will suit a bob with bangs, and who will suit an oblique multi-layered model.

Face shape Hairstyle that suits you best Which options are best to avoid?
Oval This is a universal type that will suit almost all types of bangs. Make your choice based on other criteria - for example, the desire to make your face thinner or emphasize your cheekbones. Thanks to the versatility of this type, you can experiment with any options. If the outline of the face is rather oval-rectangular, you should avoid short strands near the forehead, as they will only lengthen the face.
Round Owners of this type of face rarely go with bangs, but you can experiment with very short options or asymmetrical models that will help visually lengthen the face. A pronounced round shape is not the best option for this hairstyle. Either give up this decision, or choose short or torn options.
Triangular The best solution would be thick bangs down to the eyebrows. You can also give preference to thin, arched strands that will complement a romantic and business style. They will also help soften angular facial features, if any. Even strands of hair near the forehead can emphasize the sharpness of the chin or angularity; it is better to avoid them.
Square A suitable option would be bang models that will soften the angles and make the proportions more correct. Long straight hair shapes near the forehead should be avoided as they can emphasize angularity.

Remember! The division into face shapes is always arbitrary, because each person is individual and advice regarding choosing a hairstyle should take into account all the features of his face. Tips regarding haircuts to suit your face shape only help you better navigate the abundance of possible hairstyle options.

Choosing the type of bangs

Wide options will allow you to make a thin face wider, and narrow ones will even out the proportions of a face, for example, a square shape, or soften a massive chin. Owners of a high forehead should pay attention to straight long strands at the forehead, or graduated bangs that can be laid on one side or two.

Remember! Doing a haircut yourself can ruin the desired effect. If you have no experience, it is better to immediately contact a professional.

What options can you choose:

  1. Oblique. This look is perfect for those with a rectangular or square face, as it allows you to even out the proportions. This hairstyle is also suitable for oval and round faces, because it allows you to visually lengthen it.

This bangs is universal, it looks good on both long and short hair. Owners of curly curls should pay more attention to this choice; some oblique models will need to be constantly styled.

  1. Straight long. There are a lot of bangs of this subspecies, but today options with a length below the eyebrows or at their level are at the peak of popularity. They are well suited for owners of oval and oval-round faces, and in some cases, rectangular ones.

The straighter the hairline, the neater your look will be; it’s better to cut oblique or short options. If you want to experiment, you can tint a few strands in your hair.

  1. Straight short. It is suitable for those with round and heart-shaped faces. It can be made straight or torn; it is also important to consider what kind of haircut you have so that it matches the bangs. If you want to soften a large chin, choose straight models.

  1. Multilayer. It is very popular among modern stars, as it looks impressive at parties and attracts attention to the eyes. Looks good on highlighted or colored strands. Suitable for owners of almost all face shapes, but the choice of this option should also depend on the hair structure.

Bangs like a star - adopting the experience of famous people

Stars of television, cinema, and music change their image very often. Experienced stylists help them in their choice, so the risk of making a wrong choice is reduced to a minimum.

By comparing the appearance of famous people with and without bangs, as well as selecting those stars who have a similar face shape and proportions, as well as hair structure, you can choose the appropriate option for yourself.

Bangs are a bold step, because no one can guarantee that they will hide flaws and make your image better. But there are also features of caring for it that should be taken into account when choosing a hairstyle, as well as other subtleties and rules that should not be forgotten.

Useful tips for those who are looking for an answer to the question, “How do I know if bangs are right for me?”:

  1. Girls with curly or curly hair should be especially careful when choosing. The bangs will actively curl every day, so be prepared to spend time and money styling them.

It is important to remember that when looking at haircut options in photos of girls with straight hair, you can make a mistake, since the hairstyle will look completely different on curly hair.

  1. If you have thin hair, bangs will only reduce their volume and make them even less thick. If, on the contrary, you want to give your hair more volume, it is better to opt for hairstyles without bangs or choose torn bangs.

If you have curly hair, use straightening products for your bangs. Their prices may vary, so you can easily choose the right option. If you are the owner of oily hair, be prepared to have to wash your bangs every day, since the greasiness of the front curls immediately catches your eye, unlike the rest of the strands, which can be pulled into a ponytail or braid. If you are not ready for such sacrifices, it is better to refuse such a haircut.

Remember that the hairline will need to be trimmed once every 2-4 weeks, and doing this evenly and accurately at home is quite problematic. Therefore, you will need to contact a specialist every time. This requires time and money, so this aspect cannot be overlooked.

conclusions

Taking into account the shape of your face, choosing the desired model from the abundance of options, and taking into account all the subtleties of care that you will encounter, you can safely decide to change your image. Hello Svetlana! Your hairstyle should be dominated by clear vertical lines - like in a bob haircut. Avoid parting or make it side parting. A plus would be oblique bangs and arched bangs with long teeth at the edges. Remember proportions: side bangs should not end above or below the chin. Straight bangs are also suitable, but not very thick, and in this case the haircut should go down to the shoulders. The main rule is to avoid horizontal lines in your hair. Avoid slicked back hair, round hairstyles, high up hairstyles and curls.
Be sure to correct the oval of your face with makeup and pay attention to collars and necklines of clothes - their shape should be preferable to V-shaped or triangular; clothes without a collar and a swing-shaped neckline are acceptable.

Hello! Straight bangs are the most demanding; you will have to trim them once every 2-3 weeks. Oblique bangs are less demanding to care for; if they do not interfere, they can be cut simultaneously with the correction of the rest of the shape - once every 1-1.5 months.

The girl in the photo has a triangular face. With this shape, it is better to hide a wide forehead and balance out a narrow chin by adding volume to the lower part of the face, so bangs and A-line haircuts are suitable. Good haircut options are a classic bob and a bob with secluded front strands. The best length is slightly above the shoulders. At the bottom of the hairstyle, wavy curls and layers will look good. If you want to maintain the length of your hair, it is better to balance the proportions of your face with straight thick or multi-layered bangs. You can allow asymmetrical styling, laid in waves on one side.
Hairstyles with hair piled high or in a bun, short straight bangs and long straight hairstyles are not recommended. It is better to avoid straight parting and voluminous, spherical chin-length haircuts. Do not open your ears and forehead at the same time.

Hello Anna. Unfortunately, this photo doesn't show your face shape. For consultation, please include a photo in the correct angle (as in your passport). Now it’s clear that your bangs are oblique, and in order for them not to cause you discomfort, you need to choose the right length and trim them regularly.

Hello, Natalia. The main rule for angular faces is to try to soften the facial features with smooth asymmetrical lines. You definitely need to change the shape of your bangs. Oblique asymmetrical and multi-layered are more suitable. As for haircuts, an asymmetrical bob or a bob with elongated strands to the chin may suit you. But it is better if the haircut is longer and covers the forehead and part of the face. The cascade emphasizes graphic features, but grading the strands in the face area will help soften the jawline. Wavy strands mask hard facial features well.

Hello, Oksana. A square face shape is characterized by pronounced cheekbones, a heavy chin (like Paris Hilton) and, as a rule, a not too wide forehead, equal in width to the lower part of the face. A distinctive feature is the presence of corners. A round face has soft contours, the chin is not pronounced and the length from forehead to chin is almost equal to the distance between the cheekbones.
Recommendations for choosing bangs in both cases will be similar for you: it is better to opt for oblique bangs and lay them on one side. I do not recommend making it straight, even and thick. It is better to make the parting diagonal.

Hello, I always wore bangs, but my hair was wavy.. Which bangs and haircut would you recommend?

Author

Tamara (website)

Posted 06/14/2017

Hello Olga. The choice of haircut for wavy hair greatly depends on the coarseness of the hair and the density of the curl. The ideal option is cascading and graduated haircuts. If the hair is not too coarse, a long haircut below the shoulders will highlight the curls well. “Bob” and “Bob” haircuts look great, i.e. haircuts with a pronounced geometric shape. Asymmetrical haircuts can be difficult to style. If your hair is coarse and unruly, it is better not to have bangs. If soft enough, bangs are quite acceptable in graduated haircuts, but the best selection criterion is comfort, i.e. it shouldn't bother you.

Hello, I’d probably be better off changing my bangs to side bangs? Or without them at all? And what can you tell me about the haircut. Thank you!!!

Author

Tamara (website)

Posted 07/08/2017

Hello. As far as I understand, you have a graduated haircut and it is better to make bangs part of this haircut - lighter, more flowy, better multi-layered and elongated. Now the bangs stand out very much, they are dense and weigh down the upper part of the face, expanding it. Simply changing the cutting angle will not be enough here; you need to additionally change the density - grow the upper layers to elongate, and mill the lower ones. Then it will look softer and more harmonious. By the way, this shape will highlight expressive eyes even more favorably. Your haircut is a good length (you don’t need to make it shorter), so I won’t suggest any drastic changes in shape. Perhaps you can abandon thinning at the ends of the hair and do a more precise graduation (but this is a question for the hairdresser).

Hello, Elena. Your face shape is square (your forehead is as wide as your cheekbones and jaw). It's not so bad if you pay attention to celebrities: Natalie Portman, Paris Hilton, Demi Moore, Keira Knightley and even Angelina Jolie - these girls have a face shape very similar to yours. You can take a closer look at their successful looks and choose a suitable styling technique or haircut that you like.
Pay attention to soft graduated or airy multi-layered bangs - they help soften facial features and create a light, flying effect. Graduated and multi-layered haircuts, haircuts with extensions at the back of the head, hairstyles with smooth waves/curls and any asymmetrical styling that softens the angularity of the lines (sometimes it’s enough to just lay your loose hair to one side) will suit you well.
Avoid straight partings and thick, even bangs (they emphasize the jawline). You should not add volume to the cheekbones. The haircut should not follow or emphasize the jawline. Straight, flowing hair and straight strands along the face will only emphasize natural straight lines and angles.
In addition to your hairstyle, use makeup techniques that will help add structure to the face and soften the angularity of the lower part.

Hello. I doubt the correct choice of hairstyle. Thank you

Author

Tamara (website)

Hello. It's more about styling, because... With this haircut, you cannot increase the volume at the temples. The shape of the haircut itself, indeed, can be made a little easier, because... excess volume is created in the upper part and on the cheekbone line (and the styling emphasizes this nuance). Your haircut can be made more interesting with the help of graduations, accent strands near the face and lighter bangs (oblique or straight - the main thing is that it is light and airy). Look at sample photos.

Hello! I’ve been wearing straight bangs for about five years; as far as I understand, I have a square face type. It doesn’t look good without bangs, but I really want to remove them somehow, at least partially. Are there any options that might work for me?

Many beauty experts agree that as you age, you need to open up your face.

What to do with bangs if you are over 35?

1. If bangs don’t suit you at all, you can change their shape a little, grow them out and open your forehead.

2. Make it elongated, asymmetrical, so that it frames the forehead rather than covering it.

3. Make an imitation of bangs so that they frame the face in the version with long hair.

You can wear bangs only within a certain haircut. Then the length of the bangs will depend on the concept of the haircut and the characteristics of your face.

Your face type affects your ability to wear bangs.

Who should not wear bangs?

Ladies with a round face type. In this case, it is advisable to create vertical hair lines. This can be a bob without bangs, an asymmetrical bob and a high crown.

Ladies with a disproportionately large or long nose. Short or straight bangs will highlight it even more

Ladies who wear long hair

Ladies with age-related skin changes who wear extended or long hair.

In what cases can you wear bangs?

If you are under 30-35 years old

If you wear a haircut that includes bangs. As a rule, these are short haircuts, bobs with bangs, geometric haircuts.

If you have a long face. In this case, I would recommend bangs as part of a haircut with volume on the sides of the head and a low crown.

If you have a large forehead. In this case, you can pay more attention to the shape of the bangs within the haircut or hairstyle, and not to its presence.

If you have a proportional oval face, proportional facial features, almost any haircut suits you.

If you are over 35, it is advisable to choose one thing - either bangs with a haircut, or long hair without bangs.

The main thing is a harmonious combination of hairstyle, your age, status, skin condition, and face type.

In the process of working with women and men of different ages, I noticed that bangs are often discordant with a person’s status and age. Bangs give the face a little “childishness”, and in adulthood this is especially noticeable.

Save time and effort, take an online hair consultation

Changing your haircut and shade is the fastest way to get noticeable changes in your image. Therefore, for those who are not ready to completely change their image, I have prepared an online consultation on haircuts, hairstyles and hair shades. Without leaving home:

This is interesting:

Do you want to receive interesting notes about style and makeup?

The right haircut is of great importance for the overall look. She can set a certain style and express the mood. Bangs are one of its most popular elements. With its help, you can add something new to your hairstyle and even correct your facial features. Many people wonder who suits bangs and who doesn’t. Stylists and hairdressers are unanimous in their answer - it suits everyone, you just need to choose its shape. You will learn about this and some other aspects of the issue from the article.

Rules for selecting bangs

The decision to cut your bangs or get rid of them can be considered a radical hairstyle change. It largely determines the style and affects the visual perception of the face. A well-chosen option changes a lot in appearance. A professional hairdresser must be able to “read” the face and recreate on the head what will be the ideal combination of the client’s wishes and the capabilities of his external data. A haircut should not only be stylish and done with high quality, it should emphasize advantages and hide flaws, if any.

Bang selection options

When deciding whether to get bangs, you need to rely on the opinion of a professional. However, you should know the general rules and selection parameters, as well as the reasons why it is better to refuse it. Among them are the proportions of the face and head:

  1. The ratio of the width and height of an ideal face is 1 to 1.6 for an oval shape. With these parameters, you can choose bangs of any length and shape - from classic to creative options. Such proportions are quite rare;
  2. small faces have a corresponding ratio of 1 to 1.5 to 1 to 1.2. Owners of such parameters, as a rule, want to make their face narrower and longer. Bangs will help with this - diagonal asymmetrical. It can be short or long, depending on the shape of the face, but never straight;
  3. elongated faces need visual correction in height. Straight, thick, eyebrow-length bangs are a suitable option. With expressionless, deep-set eyes, it is raised.

The above rules are only a general guideline when choosing a haircut with bangs.

When are bangs needed?

There are many face shapes and nuances in each of them, so the issue of bangs is decided each time individually on the basis of general established canons. The decision is made taking into account the totality of the client’s wishes and natural data.

In some cases, we can still say that bangs are needed:

  1. high forehead;
  2. broad forehead;
  3. rectangular outline of the hairline;
  4. trapezoidal face shape with a massive lower part;
  5. in cases where you need to divert attention from the nose, lips, eyes.

Types of bangs

Short bangs

Short bangs can be 3 - 5 cm above the eyebrow line or just protrude slightly beyond the hairline. Anyone who wants to narrow or widen their face can wear this option. You just need to choose the right cut. In any case, it opens the forehead, which means it should be chosen carefully for those with an elongated or small face type, so as not to widen it further. For round and square faces, uneven milled short bangs in the form of a diagonal or arc are suitable. The most successful option is if such bangs are cut on sparse, thin hair that is cut short (maximum shoulder length).

Straight bangs

Straight bangs are a classic. Thick, straight bangs reaching to the eyebrows can smooth out harsh facial features, enhance soft ones, and also visually reduce age. This is an ideal option for long faces, as it reduces length due to an even horizontal cut. For a wide forehead - unacceptable, but for a trapezoidal face with a massive lower part - successful.

Straight bangs look best on straight, thick hair in combination with a natural shape due to its heaviness. Hair length can be very different. For thin and sparse hair, this choice will not be the best. Their properties and appearance will give it a feeling of “greasy”, staleness.

Asymmetrical bangs

Asymmetrical bangs are the most interesting look. There are so many options for its execution that you can choose the right one for any type and shape of face. This is a good solution for those with thin, curly, or thick hair.

For a round or square face shape, you should choose long, angled bangs to elongate it. Short asymmetry with a slight bevel - for triangular and rectangular shapes. Milled asymmetrical bangs will harmonize with curly hair.

Irregularly shaped bangs are a great option to distract attention from some parts of the face - a long nose, eyes, a massive chin. It will successfully disguise a square hairline.

Torn oblique bangs will suit a round face and visually elongate the oval.

Bang care

Bangs require special care in terms of cleanliness. You need to wash it more often than you usually do. It loses its freshness quite quickly and may seem dirty.

Having decided to become the owner of bangs, you need to be prepared for the fact that much more time and special styling products may be spent on styling them. You need to ask the master about this, he will help you choose the ones that are right for you. You may need tongs, a straightening iron, a curling iron, or a hair dryer in combination with a light mousse or varnish. There are options that do not require installation at all.

thick for oval faces

thick for rectangular faces

thick for triangular faces

You will also need to straighten your bangs and trim the length more often than you do with the rest of your hair. It is important to ensure that it maintains the shape that the master originally gave it. Some options look very unattractive and untidy if the hair begins to grow back.

To understand which hairstyle suits you, take a close look at yourself in the mirror. The face can be oval, gradually tapering towards the chin, or square, with a wide forehead and a heavy jaw. Perhaps your face is too round or looks like a triangle. Evaluate your facial features as well. The larger they are, the more voluminous styling you can afford. For those with fine facial features, graceful, not too flashy lines will suit them. The contours of your chin, cheekbones and forehead determine whether bangs suit you and what shape is best to give them.

Another important point is the characteristics of your hair. Thin and sparse strands cannot create thick bangs, and curly ones will not fall in a smooth wave.

Don't try to contradict the nature of your curls, try to give them natural lines

Find out from your stylist whether it is possible to style your hair in the chosen shape and how labor-intensive it will be to style your bangs every day. A good hairdresser will be able to determine this before he starts cutting.

Much depends on hair color. Brunettes look good with clear lines - for example, straight thick bangs or sophisticated asymmetrical bangs with elongated ends. Delicate blondes will go for softer shapes - voluminous bangs, combed into a side parting, or thin “feathers”.

Try trying on hairstyles on the computer. You can change not only the length and shape of your haircut, but also your hair color

Matching bangs to facial features

Girls with an oval face should emphasize its ideal shape. Don't cover it with hair. You'll want strands combed back or short, swept-up bangs. Avoid heavy, thick bangs that cover your forehead and eyebrows: this hairstyle will completely distort the proportions.

Experiment by trying on wigs or pinning up your forehead hair. You will understand what length and shape of bangs is right for you, and you will also be able to evaluate how comfortable your new hairstyle will be to wear.

A square face needs to soften its lines. Voluminous and dense bangs will not suit you; they will only emphasize a heavy jaw. Your choice is light oblique bangs, combed to the side. Remember that the bulk of your hair should be at the back of your head.

If your face resembles an elongated triangle, try a graduated bob with bangs - this hairstyle is refreshing and adds lightness to the look. Those with a wide and high forehead can try to reduce it with short, ragged bangs; it will distract attention from this small defect.

Choose hairstyles that you can modify with your own hands. Based on a regular graduated bob with straight bangs, you can make a dozen styles. After cutting your hair, try combing your bangs or smoothing them with gel, pinning them up or styling them in a high wave. Perhaps among the variety of options you will find the ideal one - the one that will especially suit you.

My clients already know that besides highlighting, I really don’t like bangs. Conceptually. And I manage to persuade many people to grow this element of their hairstyle. Today we’ll briefly talk about why it’s better not to cut your bangs. And don't ask the hairdresser about it. If anything, we are talking specifically about bangs: strands of hair on the forehead and eyes, cut above the cheekbones. We’ll talk separately about very elongated bangs that cover cheekbones, cheeks and sometimes even the jaw line.

Bangs cannot decorate a beautiful face. I am absolutely sure that bangs are a purely functional element. It occurs only when you need to hide your face behind your hair. Bangs are suitable for people with problematic foreheads: very low, or vice versa, very high (but I have not yet met people with an unattractively high forehead), very bad wrinkled or acne-covered skin, scars. If there are no such problems, why do you need this “prosthesis” on your face?

The bangs terribly distort the proportions. Fringes make almost any face, even thin, even oval, round, if not elongated horizontally (hey, Arnoooold!), and cheeky. Accordingly, bangs can only be recommended to young ladies who are worried about having a face that is too long and too thin. Do you know many of these?

The bangs need to be constantly washed and styled. Since it is short hair that is constantly in contact with the face, it absorbs sebum very quickly. Plus, bangs usually disturb their owners, and they are constantly touched with their hands in attempts to make them more comfortable. This pollutes your bangs even faster. Voila, 4-5 hours after washing you have stale hair in the most visible place. Washing your bangs separately is a dubious pleasure, because you can’t wash the roots this way. So, long live daily washing and styling! And in the summer it is the first to become soaked in sweat and hang on your face. Very aesthetic!

Bangs almost always need to be styled: with a hairdryer and with styling. Few people have bangs that fit perfectly: the structure of the hair (curly bangs are hell, I tried) and the direction of hair growth, and texture (the hair on the forehead is usually thinner and lighter than in other areas. And there are not many of them anyway!).

Bangs irritate the skin. If your skin is problematic, bangs are a source of dirt on your face. Hello, new acne.

It's hard to grow bangs. If you cut it off, at some point you will definitely want to get rid of it. And surviving the period while it grows is very difficult.

Bangs are difficult to integrate into a hairstyle or look. You want curls, but what to do with bangs? Or a beautiful haircut, but the bangs are already cut wrong? High stylish hairstyle for a celebration? And again the bangs get in the way.

And now it’s very subjective and a matter of taste: bangs almost always terribly forgive the image and make it a little provincial. But this is very easy to dispute. They usually tell me, but “it makes you look younger.”

The bangs cover the face and hide the eyes. Instead of a beautiful girl, bangs with noses and lips walk the streets.

What I'm saying is that if you can't cut it, don't cut it. Do you really want to? Think five more times. Or 10. Basically, until you change your mind. Again, I believe there are exceptions. But they are a minority. Much less than I see in my life of terrible bangs.

And finally, I’ve grabbed you a selection of photos of stars with and without bangs. The author of the collection demonstrated how the image changes from “just bangs.” But look carefully, do you really think that these changes are for the better?
